Our tour guide Kurt was waiting for us at the appointed place and time. He was outgoing and friendly from the jump, greeting each of the couples as they arrived and offering us the opportunity to grab a water bottle from the adjacent liquor store before the tour started. The tour began at the Cuba Restaurant and Rum Bar, where frankly the highlight of the trip was served. This was one of the two seated tastings on the tour. We each got two empanadas, both good, but the cheese-filled selection was absolutely to die for. As we left that restaurant and headed for Washington Square Park, Kurt’s passion for Greenwich Village was apparent. He is knowledgeable and vibrant in his presentation, providing anecdotes and historical facts alike. He even took the time to take our phone and take pictures of us along the way. The food on the tour also included a unique artichoke pizza, a pasta bolognese, an Indian “scrambled egg burrito,” an herbal tea and chocolates. Just as enriching as the food, however, was the running dialogue from Kurt, who clearly knows his stuff. Overall, a three-hour tour seemed short and definitely worth the price of admission. Highly recommended.
