    Chicago Razzle Dazzle
Excellent show and all that jazz. The music, band, cast put their all into traditional Broadway musical theatre and I smiled from start to finish. A top Broadway show. Just beware the lack of toilets, toilet queues at interval and high drinks prices. A small price to pay for such a good night out.

    Wow, amazing performance.
This is a good musical but not good for little kids. It has a minimum set and feature the orchestra on stage about haft way back. The actors perform around them, come up from the middle of the orchestra and some slide down the banister on the side of the orchestra. The costumes are very tiny (both men and women). If you liked the movie Chicago, you will love the musical.

    Chicago Review
I went on a school field trip to watch the show Chicago. It was an amazing show. The acting, music, story, and dancing made for a memorable time at the theatre. I can’t recommend the show enough.

Olivia Holt Dazzles in Chicago!! A Must See!!
Visiting family in NJ, I bought tickets on a whim to take my 16yr old daughter to see Chicago. It was Olivia Holt’s 2nd performance as Roxy and WOW! She was awesome! My daughter and I are very familiar with Chicago the musical, she was part of her Dazzles Best Musical Award winning high school’s production of it and we’ve seen the movie. We know musicals are open to interpretation of directors and this show did not disappoint! The cast was amazing, they had great chemistry, Billy Flynn (Erich Bergen), Velma, Amos, and Fred were so so good. Olivia is a Broadway star! We were smiling and clapping throughout the performance. We loved the simplicity of the set with the interactive orchestra, (bravo to the conductor!). There are not many costume changes, which did not bother us like other reviewers as we love seeing different takes on this long running musical. It was fresh, modern, fun, sassy, and entertaining. The cast was spot on, never out of breath, amazing vocals, (Mama (Charity Angel Dawson) and Velma (Kimberly Marble), wowza on the vocals! We would love a movie and the music of this cast to watch and listen to! A MUST SEE!!

    Cool
We had seen it many times. Performers here in Ny are great ! Good show ! Picked theatre , nice songs . Not like the van houten we saw in London in 2001 that was a blast , but this is good

    Above average
I enjoyed the songs where the chorus was involved and the husband’s song was funny. The two main singers were again good in that they sang on pitch, but there were no “wow” moments singing wise. There are no set changes and the costumes were a bit tired. Over all I would say it was slightly above average but not great. I didn’t really know the story of Chicago and found it to be a bit crude. Perhaps not really my style of show. Went to Aladdin the next night and that was sensational!

    Entertained but not dazzled
Voices of soloists were good, but the staging was a bit strange and uninspiring. The musicians were taking up most of the stage, so the singers and dancers only had a small area in front of the orchestra to act and dance. I was entertained but not dazzled.

    Amazing production
We loved this show. I was nervous having read the reviews but we loved all the things that other people have criticised. We thought the minimal staging was a benefit as the performers really shone (it wasn't all fancy scenery and set) and their talents were on full display, they did so much with relatively little. Roxy was particularly good. We loved that the orchestra was on stage and on view rather than being overlooked as they usually are. It was all very enjoyable.

    Would not recommend!
This show was disappointing. It was unlike a lot of the other musicals we have experienced on Broadway. Not a huge story line, mostly Dancing ..although the orchestra that Sat elevated in back of the stage did a good job.

My husband and I watched the musical at the Ambassador theatre… absolutely spectacular. Funny, musically amazing, choreography amazing. An absolute must see in New York, don’t miss out. The orchestra, players and the venue was fantastic. We’re from Australia and are avid theatre buffs. This was fabulous.

So disappointed with this production of Chicago.
Visiting NY over the Christmas holidays we could only see one show, and this was the one we all wanted to see.

First impressions weren’t great when we weren’t made to feel welcome entering the theatre.
Totally understand the need for security, but having been to Radio City the day before where they have to deal with 6k+ visitors I feel things could be better organised and a little more welcoming.

So once inside, the show starts.... As soon as the orchestra came up in the middle of the stage I was concerned that it wasn’t going to be good, & sadly this was the case.
No set change, no costume changes and just a drab, dull performance.
Yes, there were some talented individuals but the whole thing just didn’t work.
Half the cast looked like they didn’t want to be there.
Having seen many shows in the West End in the past year, this by far took the award for worst show.
How this is still on Broadway I don’t know?

Please consider carefully before spending your hard earned cash here- there are plenty more shows on offer!!!

This show was disappointingly lack-luster. I wish I’d read the other reviews first because the recent ones are accurate. The show is quiet, boring and very unspectacular. We left at intermission. We bought our tickets half price at the TKTS booth but even at $58/ticket it was still a rip off. I think I actually preferred my high school’s production of this show 15 years ago compared to this ‘broadway’ show.

We went to see Chicago a couple weeks ago, not realizing it was opening night for Erika Jane to play Roxie Hart and Paulo Szot to play Billy Flynn. The show was honestly disappointing from beginning to end. As other reviewers explain, the band takes up the whole stage, so there's no set other than a few chairs and a couple ladders that swing out from the side of the stage. Erika's voice seemed weak and not what you expect for a leading actress on Broadway. Maybe the play would be better with a different actress, but I doubt it because the overall production was just...boring. I would recommend a different play if you want to see something on Broadway!

My first impression of the theatre was thus can’t be right. It’s not only the worst one on broadway but worst of any I’ve been in. No lobby, no chandeliers, no atmosphere of any kind. When the curtains opened and I realized the orchestra took up entire stage pretty much-I felt terrible for choosing this play for my daughter and me. The disappointment continued with actors pushing their 60s and 70s, with 0 set and 0 costumes. They basically wore rehearsal clothes to the show. If it wasn’t for the fact that I love those songs I would have rated it a zero. Wish I read reviews before.
It doesn’t help I saw a stunning production of it in Toronto and that I’ve seen about 10 broadway productions before so my expectations were not met. I’ve seen better productions on board cruise ships. I paid 150 for tickets plus a ton of extra charges. I would not recommend this production.

Living in NYC I see at least a dozen Broadway shows a year. I saw Chicago for the first time about 20 years ago and loved it. I’ve been dying to go back for years now. I was excited to take my daughter to see it for the first time tonight. She loves musical theater and is familiar with much of the music from Chicago. There are several iconic songs that are classic Broadway and are always memorable. What a disappointment this current production was! I’ve seen better dinner theater. The theater itself is old and cramped. Many NYC theaters are. I can deal with it for a great show, but not this. The orchestra which was on stage and somewhat involved in the show, was great. But it took up the majority of the stage. Maybe that’s why they put nothing into creating a real set. The two main actresses are clearly talented but too old for the parts they played, making it very unconvincing. Both Roxy and Velma look like grandmothers. Hot bodied grandmas but still not young enough for these roles. I actually found all the performances lackluster and flat, the acting, the singing, and the dancing which I remember standing out in the earlier production. I’m not sure if it was the sound system or the lack of energy but I felt like I was watching a movie at home with the volume too low or no surround sound. Lack of energy (and effort) really sums up this production. The waiter singing “Mr. Cellophane man” at Ellens Stardust Diner was more entertaining than the rendition in the show. The stage was constantly black... costumes, props, set... in never changed with the exception of a ladder swinging out once in a while. The costumes looked more like stripper wear than sexy 1920s. If you weren’t familiar with the plot you probably wouldn’t have even known when or where it was set. Other than throwing on a blazer there were no costume changes. Lazy, lazy, or just low budget? I still can’t believe how much I paid for this mediocrity and that’s with a discounted ticket. This show has seen it’s day. Save your money. Hopefully it will close and somewhere down the road someone will properly revive it to its former glory.

This is what a tired Broadway show looks like... no one loves Broadway more than me and this is one of the best all-time musicals around. The actors were way too old and lacked any energy they were speaking the songs rather than singing and there was no vitality or suspended reality. I won hundred percent wish I had spent my money on something else I can’t believe I’m saying that being such a Broadway buff but the show puts zero imagination or intrigue into it. The only thing I can say is the choreography still remains very creative! Somebody needs to teach the ushers a thing or two about when to sit people. I couldn’t believe that during the opening number when the two main people were being introduced and sharing they were seating people they didn’t even wait for the break of the first applause totally disrespectful… And it was from the management

Couldn’t believe how awful it was.. to a point we left half way through. Orchestra took up almost the whole of the stage with little room for the whole cast to use for the whole show. No costume changes, no scene sets, no props. Chairs were put at the side of each stage so when cast weren’t playing a part they were just sat on a chair either side of the stage slouched till it was there turn to come up and perfume their role (which I thought looked so unprofessional). Worst show on Broadway and needs massively fixing (orchestra needs to be moved so the cast have the stage to use / costume changes & setting need a bigger use to justify the money the show costs). Roxie was fantastic - however felt a younger role was needed for Velma).

For Broadway in NEW YORK.. this needs improving drastically for such a huge show in a huge city.

Like many others, I was not by any means razzle dazzled. The orchestra is dead center of the stage and leaves little room for the performers to dance. No set changes. No costume changes. I felt like I was watching a community theatre production of a show, not broadway standards at all.

There are a couple of standout performances, but the final scenes dancing was a massive let down. I have seen this sequence danced at amateur level, i expected the Broadway version to be better - and it wasn't. No tap or razamatazz - just looked like they were out of their league - embarrassing

This ensemble is worthy of every bit of praise it has received, but if something ever stood out, it was the Chicago orchestra. What a group! What a performance!

The music and choreography was nothing short of phenomenal. When compared to other Broadway productions, the scenery and lighting are not as impressive. However, I would add that the show never felt lacking these either - it was just right. On the other hand, the musical quality (orchestra and singers), performance and choreography really set the standard high for the longest running American musical on Broadway.

As far as seating goes, the venue is intimate enough for any seat to be a good seat. Sound is pitch perfect and the show is great, from the orchestra level to the balconies.

We enjoyed this performance very much, the film doesn’t even compare. Gotta see it!
