We walked out of a theater after a show and headed to the Center to take pics of the beautiful Christmas tree and decorations and it was no longer lit up! The crowd of theater goers around us was all mumbling the same thing, "What the heck? Why isn't the tree lit up?"

Look under "throngs" in the dictionary, and you'll see Rockefeller Center any day during December. I do love the spirit though.

The tree was huge and lighting was gorgeous. The tour guide told us that the tree was 85 feet tall. The ice skating rink was very nice.

I went there in December to see the Christmas tree and Rockefeller Plaza get lit. The weather was a little cold but overall it was a great experience it almost seemed like Disney World there is magic in the air. Definitely go to Saks fifth Avenue and look at all the windows that are decorated for Christmas as well

Already crowded with throngs of people to see the Christmas tree and decorations. Visitors are directed one way thru the outside area. The tree and decorations are beautiful as always, just very crowded. Lots of shops to go in and out of. Plan on walking slowly, if you’re in a hurry, skip it.

So much to see and do here, I advise to take a walking tour then go up the rock itself, I was told to avoid the walking tour but it really is worth it for an hour out of your day to understand the place, it's history as It made us explore more of the buildings, not just an observation... More

We enjoyed a glass of champagne each here before heading to Eleven Maddison Park and coming to Bar 65 was the perfect start to a wonderful evening. The only negative was that we were turned away during the day because we weren't dress appropriately (collars for men) but when we were up there during the evening, there were women wearing... More

Very crowed at Christmas time. It was fun to watch the ice skaters. There was a lot of places to shop. The Christmas tree and holiday decorations in the area were gorgeous and well worth mingling with the crowds of people.

Staying in Midtown

Neighborhood Profile
Midtown
This is the iconic New York that so many visitors imagine before they visit - spectacular skyscrapers like the Chrysler Building and Empire State Building, iconic public buildings like Grand Central Terminal and the New York Public Library, and the non-stop hustle and bustle of the city streets. Fifth Avenue is a shopper's paradise where you can find every kind of store imaginable, with fashion brands ranging from the affordable to the ultra-fancy. Visit Rockefeller Center to experience towering Art Deco grandeur, and foodies will love the busy restaurants that stay open late in Koreatown. After dark, Midtown calms down a bit, but at any time of day or night it still feels 100% New York.
