About
Trinity Church, located at Broadway and Wall Street, is an active Episcopal church with a deep history. In 1697, a little over 70 years after the Dutch settled New York as a trading post known as New Amsterdam, Trinity Church was granted a charter by King William III of England. Since then, Trinity has been an integral part of New York City. Today, Trinity Church and St. Paul’s Chapel (just a few blocks north) are the cornerstones of Trinity Church Wall Street, a growing and vibrant Episcopal community. Sunday services at 9:15am are also held in Trinity's Chapel of All Saints, and 9am family service and 8 pm Compline services take place at St. Paul’s Chapel. During the week, you can join us in the Chapel of All Saints at these times as well: Morning Prayer Weekdays at 8:15 am and 9 am; Midday Eucharist Weekdays at 12:05 pm; and Evening Prayer Weekdays at 5:15 pm.

- a74429Fort Worth, Texas190 contributionsBeautiful church and fascinating historical cemeteryMost people visit this church for the cemetery. It’s incredible to see so many well preserved tombstones, many of which are pre-revolutionary war. The grounds are very well cared for, and the security guards that patrol the church are polite and professional. If you have time, it’s worth a quick stop to pay respects and also visit Alexander and Elisa Hamilton’s graves.Visited November 2023Traveled with familyWritten November 12, 2023
- therichastillStevenage, United Kingdom3,237 contributionsNice ChurchTrinity Church is in the heart of the financial district of Manhattan. I found it quite easily and it is a short distance from the New York Stock Exchange. I found this quite interesting, I wonder of the people who work in the stock exchange go to Trinity church afterwards. The church is a really lovely traditional building and if you like church architecture you will probably enjoy this.Visited October 2023Traveled soloWritten December 6, 2023
- TravelingSoccerLoonSaint Paul, Minnesota5,872 contributionsBeautiful and Historically Significant Church in the Financial DistrictHistorically significant and beautiful Episcopalian church that sits in the Financial District of Lower Manhattan at the intersection of Wall St and Broadway. This is the third version of Trinity Church with the original built on this site in 1697. The current church was completed in 1846. Amazingly it was the tallest building in the United States until 1869 and remained the tallest building in New York City until 1890. Its cemetery is the final resting place for many famous figures from history, most notably Alexander Hamilton. His grave can be easily spotted along Rector Street.Visited May 2023Traveled as a coupleWritten April 11, 2024
- Stephanie DAtlanta, Georgia1,478 contributionsJust brilliant and so welcoming!!WOW -- such a beautiful church and amazing that there is no cost to tour. The stained glass windows are gorgeous and we were fortunate enough to get to hear one of the clergy practicing on the organ and that wqs FAB!! The church and adjoining rooms, have some beautiful paintings, sculptures, etc. - not to mention the outside graveyard lets you see Alexander, Eliza, and Phillip Hamilton’s resting place. I definitely recommend stopping in Trinity Church the next time you are near Wall Street and the 9/11 memorial.Visited April 2024Traveled with friendsWritten April 17, 2024
- ChristieLynnSASan Antonio, Texas77 contributionsEspecially nice to lingerI was so glad to spend some time walking through the church sanctuary and grounds. There’s a security check as you enter, but it doesn’t take too long. (You do want to be mindful of worship service schedule to time your visit.) As you exit the cemetery, there is a sign indicating where some of the graves are that visitors like to see, and the path is easy to navigate. We did not do an official tour and were a little irritated by outside tour groups who tried to rush us through the paths if we were in front of them. We managed to get them to pass us so we could linger. There are lots of photo spots. Unfortunately, we did not see any National Treasure clues.Visited May 2024Traveled with familyWritten June 1, 2024

- Sarah CDelaware311 contributionsBeautiful inside and out!The church was beautiful inside and out! We also visited Alexander Hamilton‘s grave and the remainder of the cemetery and the notable figures that are also buried there. The cemetery grounds were beautifully kept, the atmosphere was very serene despite being in the middle of the city. Definitely enjoyed the experience!Visited June 2024Traveled as a coupleWritten June 29, 2024
- WestYorkshireFlossyWakefield, United Kingdom304 contributionsVery Pretty ChrchSo pleased we visited this lovely church. It is close to the 9/11 Memorial Museum and thankfully survived that infamous day. Be prepared to go through airport Like security. First time I have experienced that in a place of worship. The volunteers and people employed there were very helpful and professional. Lit candles for friends and family both here and passed. Would recommend for quiet reflection. Donations welcome.Visited June 2024Traveled with friendsWritten July 5, 2024
- skd22578 contributionsClosedWe arrived and were told the church was closed. We could see the choir practicing inside. We asked the gentleman of we could walk around the grounds and he said yes. We walked through the cemetery. A lot of very old gravesites. Interesting juxtaposition with the old church/cemetery and the modern buildings all around.Visited July 2024Traveled with familyWritten July 19, 2024

I have visited before but had to stop by again now that the cemetery and grounds have re-opened to public visits. The architecture of the church is just stunning and the cemetery is full of old, ornate headstones and recognizable names from American history. Alexander Hamilton and Eliza Schuyler Hamilton are here, along with other notable members of their families and cohorts of their time. Worth a visit if you're in the neighborhood.

…so I went in for the 11.15am Sunday Eucharist. It’s a really attractive physical environment and at a human level, it’s warm, welcoming and friendly. It was almost ‘standing room only’. When the organist did start playing, the sound that ricocheted around the building was magnificent, no less so the singing from the circa 16 choristers. They were seriously impressive, their harmonies pitch perfect, powerful, sensitive, rich and evocative. The service itself was straightforward and easily navigable thanks to a very professionally presented and engaging service pamphlet. And Matthew who delivered the sermon was thankfully relevant and appropriately ‘entertaining’. 75 minutes later and I re-entered the secular world thoroughly uplifted, thoroughly energised.

The present Neo Gothic Church you see today was built in the mid 19 century on the grounds of two previous ones dating back to late 17 and 18 century. Therefore it's considered to be the oldest in NYC.
Trinity Church is set in the middle of Financial lower Manhattan district with many other attractions nearby. Entry is free for both, the Church itself and the adjacent cemetery. The cemetery has two parts on both sides of the Church with final resting places of important historic figures such as Alexander Hamilton and Robert Fulton.

I came here to see the Hamilton gravesite and others buried nearby. Unfortunately, you weren't able to get in. When we tried to sweet talk the security guard, they referred to it as the site where "Anthony Hamilton" was buried. I couldn't deal with that so I left. Thankfully, you can see Alexander Hamilton's grave site from the road outside. Not really anybody else's but definitely his. Hopefully they will open back up to tours and to allow visitors to walk the grounds again.

So little in New York is free and really worth experiencing. Trinity Church is that place. The beautiful church and adjoining rooms, combined with the excitement of seeing Alexander, Eliza, and Phillip Hamilton’s resting place, make this a must see for any Hamilton fan. And Hercules Mulligan! My teens really enjoyed this stop, and it’s proximity to the WTC memorial made it a moving, inexpensive morning. If you’re looking to up the cost, be sure to stop by Century 21 department store nearby.

It's so good to see an English church located abroad in terms of the style of architecture, stained glass and the pre-revolution gravestones in the cemetery outside. It's also good to see words spelled correctly such as honourable. I did point this out to one of the volunteers inside, but he didn't seem too impressed at my dry English sense of humour. A lively church to visit when you are visiting the financial district of Manhattan.

Trinity Church is a great place to visit and full and so much history. The grave sites of Alexander Hamilton, Eliza Hamilton, their son and Robert Fulton are located there. It was especially fun to visit the church and follow up that night with watching Hamilton at the Richard Rogers Theatre. The church is magnificent with such architectural design. The grounds are very tranquil and serene. The location is perfect for walking from the Downtown Marriott. No charge to enter, but I did make a donation to the church.

I remember a statue there, anyone know who it is?
Written September 9, 2019
There's a bronze statue of John Watts (Jr.), which was erected by his grandson John Watts de Peyster who was a Union General in the Civil war.
Watts was a NY Politician; his Rose Hill estate is the site of Fordham University (in the Bronx).
