A building that suffered the same fate as other historic buildings in New York, that of being the tallest in the world for a few years and then being surpassed by skyscrapers built later. Built in the early twentieth century, modeled on the bell tower of the Basilica of San Marco in Venice, it overlooks Madison Square Park. Both the clock and the palace spire are currently under restoration

This is a famous historic skyscraper. I believe it was built on the site of one of the first Madison Square Gardens. It's old and of a classic design. Walk into the park and gaze back to get a good perspective.

The Met Life Tower is a handsome building on Madison Square Park. This photo seems to be of the Woolworth Building.

Not to be confused with the MetLife building, this was once the tallest building in the world from 1909 until 1913 when it was surpassed by the Woolworth Building. The clock face makes it stand out from other skyscrapers as it was modelled on the bell tower of San Marco in Venice. The hotel lost many of its original features in the 1960s when it was refurbished. The building is being refurbished again and will be converted into a hotel.

Another architectural wonder sited around the Madison Park/ Flatiron area. This building is striking due to its amazing 4 huge clock faces that it displays. ANOTHER Great photo opportunity in NYC!

As we could see the clock tower from our hotel room ( Cambria Chelsea on 28th ) we felt we ought to see the rest of the building up close , its an impressive tower seen from Madison Sq and the Flatiron although its still a private building so we didnt go inside.
