3, 50’ish ladies just completed the Capital Reef, 5 day Horsebackriding/camping trip with Hondoo. We all agree our horses were some of the best we have ever ridden. Before embarking on out trip we bombarded Pat with so many emails and phone calls on what her protocols were to keep us all safe during COVID. They did a spectacular job. We were very comfortable with all the precautions. Our tents and supplied bedding were top notch. Our group was joined by another group of 3 who had various dietary restrictions and requests. All were addressed and executed to everyone’s expectations, not an easy task!
We have taken several trips like this one in different states. We enjoyed this one so much we will be back to take another itinerary next year. Thank you!

Thanks for letting us go on your vacation! While Covid has certainly hit us hard, you three were the medicine we all needed to begin recovery! We'll look forward to knowing we CAN serve you well next year!

My sister and I booked a five day inn-to-inn package for early June 2020. We are so glad that we did! Pat and her team are amazing horse people, fantastic local guides, and a heck of a lot of fun to be with for 5 days, 6 hours per day. The rides were well organized and each day we saw more beautiful scenery than the day before. You will VERY well fed and watered and ride smart horses that Pat has bred and raised. I rode Sugar (hey girl!)and my sister rode Roanie for the majority of days. These aren’t boring nose to tail horses and you will be challenged by the terrain and horses in a great way. We rode in Capital Reef National Park, Dixie National Forest, Velvet Ridge. We summited Boulder Mountain the last day. Stunning! You can see all the way to Monument Valley and the Grand Canyon. You need a camera with a lot of storage and extra batteries. As intermediate riders, we learned so much that week. Pat sends you a detailed packing list that you really need to adhere to and you will be very comfortable. Saddles are comfy and the storage in the saddle bags is more than ample. We stayed at Red Sands the entire week due to area just coming out of COVID and the hotel and food in area and at hotel were excellent as is the very friendly service. Our thanks to Pat, Caib, Sandy, Ken and Ashton for making our first visit to stunning Torrey such a memorable experience and hopefully it won’t be our last. They have so much local knowledge and some awesome Butch Cassidy stories! You really need to book whatever length of ride you are comfortable with Hondoo. You won’t regret it!

We had a large group of 8 that Hondoo Rivers and Trails did a van trip up the Burr Trail, stopping along the way to admire the scenery. One of those locations was at the top of the switchbacks. Our guide was very personable and very careful driving up the narrow and winding road of the Burr Trail switchbacks which can be kind of scary. Our guide also related some great stories of the region. We stopped at a delightful et little known slot canyon for some photos. We all had a wonderful time.

This company needs to stick with horseback riding, not jeep touring. I thought I had booked a day long rock art tour, which is what the booking confirmation email said and what I thought was agreed to on the phone. We arrive to find out they only scheduled a half day tour, which after our experience I was so glad it was. First off, we went in a truck, which I didn't really mind since it was a newer vehicle. However, it appears that the jeep tour guide recently retired, and they have no tour guide. We went out with an older gentleman that should not be taking people out on tours. I have to say that I somewhat enjoyed his stories, but that was the only enjoyment. He had no people skills whatsoever. Our guide was quite elderly, and he was extremely forgetful, twice after we entered Capitol Reef he kept wondering where the entrance to the park was. My husband was terrified he was going to forget us out there. He hadn't been to the rock art site in so long, and the terrain had changed, that he tried taking us down this trail only a mountain goat should travel on. Once we found the right trail, he couldn't find the rock art, and when I tried telling him where a hiker we had just passed told us it was at, he rudely told me that I was not the tour guide. Not only that, but he was in terrible physical condition and couldn't make it all the way to the rock art, but sat under a tree and waited for us to go see it and come back. I was terribly worried he was going to drop dead from a heart attack. I was never so glad to get back from a tour as I was from that one. So like I said, stick to horseback riding tours and you will probably have a fun time, because the jeep tour was terrifying.

We are so distressed that you didn't mention any of this to the management. It is very difficult when there has been no report but on social media. Please tell us more, no problem can be corrected or made right if there is no report.

We scheduled the "jeep" tour. When we arrived at the appropriate time the tour guide was prepping a van not a jeep. When I mentioned we schedule a jeep tour, he said well that's what we are taking. It was fine but not what i expected at all... don't let the name fool you. He was very knowledge about the area and we had a good time, I would rather of been in a jeep! - the van felt stuffy.

I called on a Tuesday morning to book a tour. Gary answered the phone. He is not in the office but at the farm. He had no schedule but assured me that we could take a jeep tour on a Saturday. He could not confirm with Pat because they do not communicate. Told me to check in with her on Friday afternoon at the office in Torrey. We did but Pat was very negative - said he should not have told us to expect a tour. She said the website had not been updated. My question is - How are you supposed to book a tour? You can't book it online, phone calls go to Gary who can't book anything, Pat is out of the office on trail rides almost every day and has no phone. Also, she said that this would be their last year, so they are not too concerned about their reputation.

This 5 day horseback trip met and exceeded all of my expectations! Hondoo staff are knowledgeable, friendly, and patient (instruction on horsemanship). The rides were all incredible - great horses and great scenery. Pat plans out these trips with great detail. Camp site is set up well, meals were awesome - seriously well cooked meals. If you enjoy tent camping, great food, great scenery, and beautiful horses - THIS IS YOUR TRIP! I am going back again!

Hands down my favorite vacation so far. Pat, her wrangler, and cooks were professional and friendly. The equipment and horses were great, the accommodations (tents and cots) in good shape and the food was delicious!
The scenery and wildlife stunning. I will do it again if the opportunity presents itself.

This visit was May 2010 - trip advisor wouldn't let me go that far back.

In a region of great trails the one we took was our favorite. Our wrangler was skilled and an instant friend. We have owned horses for 25 years and found the animals to be engaging and well cared for.

Our safety was compromised! Do not tour with this company! When booking this tour with Pat, I specifically asked if the vehicles were air conditioned and was told yes. So the first vehicle the guy took us out in had no air conditioning that was in working condition. We return to the outfitters office to get another vehicle because I could not tolerate the heat on this 94° day. At this point we asked our guide if we could just do a half-day tour instead of the full day tour that we signed up for. He is shared us that the full day tour was the only way to see capital reef. He had no telephone no radio no GPS and the vehicle completely failed in the middle of the desert. No shade. We waited an hour until another passenger vehicle came down the road. These wonderful people took my husband and I to the top of the switchbacks to their campsite for shade and water and for us to make a phone call to the outfitter to send a rescue vehicle. We waited at this campsite for over two hours.. Gary from from the outfitters picked us up and drove us down back down the switchbacks to pick up the guide Brian and to push the disabled vehicle to the side of the road. Instead of doing this they towed the disabled vehicle back up the ungodly switchbacks putting our safety at risk. This rescue vehicle then overheated and put it and put a hole in the radiator and we were once again stranded for two more hours. They attempted to repair the radiator with duct tape. They refused our request to call and outside towing company multiple requests. After multiple stops for water at various springs along the route which the outfitter encouraged us to drink which we did not we made it back to our hotel 12 hours later.

Having operated in the backcountry of Utah for 41 years, there have been and will continue to be equipment failures and resulting rescues with no permanent scars. The backcountry is just that: no paved roads, no cell service, no radio service and no need for GPS---If you go there you prepare for extended stays should there be a breakdown. The back-country is Mother Nature at her best and we relish the chance to immerse our guests in life unplugged. How fortunate there were others in the vicinity and it was only one hour for a rescue. The road less traveled isn't always for everyone. It is unfortunate you were inconvenienced. Sometimes there are bumps in the road of life.
