This scuba outfit in Manteo, NC was the best of the bunch when I came with a team from the West Coast to do some dive research off the Army Corps Pier in Duck, NC. We did shop around, and Matt without question was the most accommodating for our unique needs (gear to rent, for long periods and uncertain schedules). It helped we were there on the off season, but the professional and courteous treatment we had with Nag's Head Diving was exceptional. They were a wealth of knowledge on dive conditions (weather, currents, visibility forecasts), marine fauna and even nautical history, had we the time to enjoy all of that. If we ever return to the Outer Banks for work or play, I would direct anyone to Matt's shop first. Great job!

Went diving on 9-3-2014 and had a great time. called the office and the staff was very personal so went to book charter. went to the dock on day of charter and captain Matt and first mate lan were at dock getting boat ready for the day of diving. we had 6 divers on boat with plenty of room to move around. this was mine and a few other divers first ocean dive. and the crew made sure everything was ready to go when we reached the dive site(the advance) when to dive site the captain and his first mate helped but gear on and remove it so you can get read for next dive. safety was first and for most in their eyes so if u are looking for a dive charter that caters to the diver this is the one. like to say special thanks to the crew for a safe dive

Roanoke Island Outfitters and Dive Center provided a fabulous first kayak lesson. For just $50 for two of us, we had a patient, experienced and very nice teacher, (Justin), who took care of everything for us from helping us learn to put on life jackets properly, hauling the equipment down to the boat ramp in town, and teaching us how to get in, get out and to paddle. He was wonderful with my friend who was getting in a kayak for the first time at age 69, and was able to show me a few more advanced strokes. He started us in the calmest and most sheltered waters in the wetlands at the back of the Manteo Marina, and worked with us out through the wetland canals to the edge of the sound. The experience was so wonderful that we rented kayaks on our own from Roanoke Outfitters the very next day. This was not a lesson, but he friendly staff took care of getting the kayaks to the boat launch, helping us with our equipment and made a few recommendations for things to see. A wonderful introduction to a new sport for both of us.

Tried to go diving with these guys, but had to reschedule due to hurricane Bertha. They were happy to oblige, but when I showed up for the new date they told me they weren't going out. Very frustrating after getting up at 5 am. I called to confirm the day before, but they never returned my call. Too disorganized to deal with again.

We went on a great dive to the U-85 and the Jackson with Roanoke Outfitters (what they call themselves now, same owners etc). We got great visibility (25 feet) at the U-boat and poor visibility (5 feet!) at the Jackson -- the Atlantic diving conditions vary not only day to day but place to place (the two dive sites are only a handful of miles apart).
At this dive shop you pay separately if you want the divemaster to dive with you. We did so and definitely recommend that even for fairly experienced divers, because among other things if you get down there and have 5 foot visibility Sara (our divemaster) knew her way around the wreck and laid down an orange safety/guide line as she took us to the niftiest spots which helped us make efficient use of the bottom time -- if we'd been down there alone we could have confirmed that there was indeed a wreck, but with 5-foot visibility wouldn't have been able to find most of the cool stuff with the air we had.
I certainly recommend diving nitrox if you're certified, as the U-boat is at 90+ feet and the Jackson is around 80. It also means you can use their Steel 100's which means more total air, etc.
One of my friends managed to drop his expensive underwater camera rig into 80 feet of water, during the 5-foot-visibility section of our trip. Matt, the captain & co-owner, went diving with his compass and lines the next day (while the next day's trip group was diving the wreck) and managed to retrieve it for us!
I think their boat takes up to 6 divers. We chose to rent the whole boat for the 3 of us.

My wife and I were originally booked for a boat dive on Friday, but a lack of other divers cancelled that trip. We were able to shift to a shore dive instead. The dive master was knowledgeable and once he got a read on us gave us some slack. After spending a week diving san's dive master in Bonaire, we like the freedom. We followed the agreed upon dive plan where we were going to go check out another nearby wreck and everything worked out great. The vis wasn't great, but it was diveable. Lots and lots of blue crabs. My only complaint was there wasn't much selection of shop dive shirts. This isn't unique to this shop. It seems to be pretty pervasive. We just like to buy a shirt from every shop we dive with.

Nice dive for modest experienced divers. Dive guide did a good job and this turned out to be a single, one tank dive to a wreck off the beach... not bad for the $$. Only issue was that when we booked the dive, the guy on the phone was obviously in a hurry and abrupt. He was not clear where we were to meet... we went to the dive shop early and eventually learned we should meet at the beach where the dive was to take place......

Ordered a kayak on line and Pam (the owner) delivered it within the hour. As she pulled up she noticed the sky was getting dark and a storm was approaching. Her concern was for our safety. She let us keep the kayak until the weather improved the next day. Unfortunately it was too windy to go on the water the next day but the fact that she gave us that option was above and beyond!!! Great customer service!!!!

I dove the Jackson, and Advance II through this shop. The dives were top notch. My divemaster, Linus, was perfect. The captain was hilarious, and was very knowledgeable of the local wrecks. I would undoubtedly dive with them again due to these gentlemen. We had about 5ft of vis for the first 40 ft. After the thermocline it cleared up to roughly 30ft+. Linus ensured everyone was comfortable, and handled those who weren't with patience. My only gripe was the shop. I'm renting gear to get a feel for certain styles until I find some stuff that I want to invest in. That being said some of their gear was terrible. Holes in the gloves that my made it so my fingers weren't even covered, literally. When I tried on my BCD it felt extremely loose. It was an XL, and I was adamant about trying a L. The lady heading the shop was nearly forcing me to take an XL. I knew it wasn't a good fit. This was making me rather uncomfortable. Outside of that, they provided a great experience!

We just completed a 5 day - 4 night guided kayak and wilderness camping trip in the Everglades 10000 Islands that exceeded our expectations on every front. Pam and Matt were on top of planning throughout and handled all preparations, permits, navigation and food.
The trip was bracketed with an 8.5 mile paddle to the island with a sandy beach on the gulf. Each day we would paddle 3.5-8 miles to explore other islands, or we could just hang out and read. The meals were excellent and the company entertaining. The kayaks and gear they provided was in great shape. Pam also towed a paddle board which worked great as the water was so calm.
Their experience and focus on safety made the trip very relaxing. We look forward to taking another tour with them in the future.
