About
The best way to view the magnificent beauty of the Outer Banks of North Carolina. Seating up to two passengers in front of our pilot, our open cockpit aircraft is one of the original WWII trainer biplanes built by WACO. Flying in this vintage aircraft is truly an unforgettable experience! We also offer rides in a Cessna 172 (3 passengers) & a Cessna 206 (5 passengers).

We took a 30-minute tour on our last day of vacation, and it was the highlight of our trip! The employees are extremely nice and the pilot was a complete professional. My husband usually gets motion sickness but complimented the pilot on his flying, because he didn’t feel a thing. You couldn’t even tell when we touched ground since the landing was so smooth. I’d highly recommend this tour to anyone who wants breathtaking views of the Outer Banks.

My husband and I, then our two adult children took a 20 minute flight on the 1942 WACO biplane flight. It was a blast in the open cockpit and we'd do it again in a heartbeat. The pilot was professional and personable and very safety conscious. We all highly recommend this experience.

We had a wonderful ride in the Biplane. Open cockpit and aviator helmets…it wasn’t hard to imagine we were going to do some barnstorming! Andy is a wonderful pilot and the ride and the views were amazing. We even saw a huge pod of dolphins off the coast. Highly highly recommend. It’s was an unforgettable experience!

I Flew in "Big Red" today and it was amazing! I think not only the one of a kind historical experience but the tour over the islands made this a GREAT experience that I will not forget. I HIGHLY recommend you find your way to this vacation event. From start to finish, the staff and pilot were extremely courteous and again made the whole event memorable !

Went flying today with Barrier Island Aviation, I've vacationed on Hatteras Island for all 18 years of my life and it was an absolute dream to finally fly above the island. The staff and pilots are very friendly and will be able to answer all of your questions. I highly recommend swinging by and catching a flight.

Went up 3 times in the biplane with the kids, all of them had fun! Andy our pilot was great... instructions on how to enter and exit the plane were clear and friendly, he has clearly been doing this for a long time and has a relaxed way about him that is contagious. Pointed out the sights, shipwrecks, downtown, and even flew by the house we were staying in! Lizzie the dog was friendly and obedient, so the kids on the ground had fun petting and playing with her. All in all, it was an amazing, positive experience which my kids will remember for a lifetime.

The staff is so amazing. They allowed us to borrow a phone charger while we were waiting for our flight to begin so that we could take pictures in the plane. The pilot was personable and extremely nice during the tour. We also enjoyed playing with Lizzy the dog while we waited. Beautiful tour! Highly recommend.

This was an awesome experience and I would definitely recommend doing this near the beginning of your stay in the Outer Banks. My friend and I decided on the 35m ride around the islands, and we have no regrets. The views were so beautiful and Pilot Andy was helpful in pointing out cool spots to check out during the flight as well as places to explore later. The flight was super smooth which I appreciated as someone who usually gets motion sickness. The plane itself was a beautiful antique red biplane.

One of the greatest experiences ever! My 14 yr old son, an aspiring pilot, wanted this tour as a highlight of our OBX vacation. We got rained out on our scheduled time but Pilot Andy fit us in the following morning. It was absolutely fantastic, my son still has a grin from ear to ear, he hasn’t stopped talking about what a great time he had. Andy made our experience a memorable one, we will be back for another tour on our next vacation. Kudos to Andy and staff for a job well done!

An overall good experience. Gave the flight as a gift to a friend for his birthday. Don't let on that your a pilot also. Your choice of personal aircraft could be talked down. The flight was fifty minutes, not the hour as advertised. A safe pilot who stayed ahead of the airplane though.

Level of difficulty getting in and out of the plane? My father wants to do this. His mobility is not fantastic. TIA

Depends on level of mobility. If in doubt their Cessna plane is easier to get in and out of. Suggest you call Andy or Amy and ask directly.
