Canyon De Chelly Tours is an enterprise of Leon Skyhorse Thomas. Every guide is a professional, certified by the National Park Service by examination. In addition to tours of the Canyon de Chelly National Monument, cultural consulting needs are addressed on a case by case basis for those who seek a more intimate insight onto the Navajo Way. Leon has assisted film-makers on location in Navajoland and is used to delivering high quality services to the people and organizations he serves. There are over 2700 archaeological sites within the many canyons of Canyon de Chelly National Monument. Only 13 of the 700 standing ruins have been stabilized, re-inforced, or protected from degradation. We are professional Navajo guides who can teach you the history of our canyons and about the Anasazi, Hopi and Navajo peoples. We pride ourselves in offering you more than just viewing our scenery - but we can do this too!

Great tour. Met our guide at the best western and proceeded to the canyon from there. He was very good at explaining everything we were seeing from the rock formations to all the art work we were looking at. He was also very good at explaining how the locals lived in the area both ancient and modern times. The canyon... More

We thoroughly enjoyed our four-wheeling tour through the canyon with our guide, Percy. He offered an interesting perspective having grown up in the canyon with no running water or electricity. Being half Navajo and half Zuni, we got an angle on the history that you don't read about on Wikipedia. He pointed out various petroglyphs, rock formations and explained the... More

Canyon de Chelly and Spider Rock were the highlights of our visit to Chinle, AZ. In addition meeting several silversmiths with histories of their own, dating back to Ansel Adams, and before that "the Long Walk" brought history to life, with the cliff dwellings, the legends and the actual happenings within those canyons............every citizen of the United States and ever... When traveling to Monument Valley--do not overlook this area. In some ways as spectacular as its neighbor. Viewed from both the floor of the canyon as well as the rim, amazing place!

My wife and I took a three hour tour with high expectations, having seen the many positive reviews on TripAdvisor. Unfortunately, our experience was very disappointing. I can only assume that there is great variability between the various guides and I strongly suggest that, if you are thinking of using this company, you check precisely which guides have been commended... Even today, many Navajo have not visited Canyon de Chelly although it is pivotal to their world view. For us Anglos to have a chance to ride or hike through the canyon, accompanied by a Navajo guide. is a real treat. We did both horseback and a jeep tour, enjoying both. Take a hat and water if you ride horses,... More

You need to book a tour offered by people who know where they are going and know their history. Colleen Hunter was our guide on a four hour tour. Super!!

A tour with a guide is the only way to see the inside of the Canyon. Otherwise, it is only accessible at the rim along paved roads. It is well worth the expense to go in the Canyon. Our tour guide was Henry, and we shared our trip with another couple that we did not know. It is absolutely beautiful... More

Our tour was with Canyon de Chelly tours run by Leon Skyhorse Thomas. Great tour & our guide Angela was excellent. She was very knowledgable of the canyon & her native culture. The tour does not go into Canyon de Chelly but the adjacent canyon. Lots of interesting things to see. You can see most of Canyon de Chelly sites... More

We had been to Chinle, Arizona several times before, and Canyon de Chelly, and knew of the left branch of the canyon, del Muerto but never had the chance or time to visit it. Our trip last time there was 17 miles back into the Canyon to visit Spider Rock, riding in the jeep and through the sandy riverbed. This... More
