- rene w1 contributionDirty, and you need a boarding pass also when returning to the US.We have used the crossing many times, but the floors of the bridge are getting dirtier all the time. Another aspect that I completely overlooked was that when returning from Mexico, at the CBX entry gates you need not only need the return CBX code, but also the boarding pass. I assumed the boarding pass was only relevant for the flight in Mexico. CBX needs to be clear in communicating that the boarding pass to use CBX is needed BOTH ways.Visited February 2023Written February 23, 2023
- Jason HSan Marcos, California1 contributionFast, convenient and almost perfect. We used CBX for two way travel last weekend and found the experience pretty good. The outbound US=>MEX experience was excellent. The staff was helpful and baggage carts were accessible and plentiful. Once through the gates, we were 10 minutes to the border crossing and 5 minutes to check our bags at the Volaris counter. On the return MEX=>US crossing, we found there were no baggage carts at the baggage claim and until we were halfway across so dragging bags through the electronic gates was awkward and inconvenient. Once through and after the carts were available, things were easier. All in all, CBX is very efficient and convenient. We'd gladly use CBX again when we next need to fly out of Tijuana airport.Visited March 2023Written March 15, 2023
- Shay NSan Diego, California1 contributionQuick, easy, will use againQuick passage, no major issues and won't hesitate to use again. 2 minor problems we ran into: 1. Passport card won't scan our details and we had to fill the form by hand. 2. Some parts of the crossing looks like it has been patched with bare drywalls. It has been like that for years.Visited March 2023Traveled as a coupleWritten March 16, 2023
- CBFallsSan Diego, California10 contributionsCosts No Longer ReasonableCBX is convenient for people living in Southern California. The prices, however, continue to climb and the parking there is outrageous. By the time I pay $60 Uber each way vs. 20 to the San Diego airport and the $92 CBX fee for my son and me, (especially since flight prices have increased from TIJ), prices are no longer reasonable and it has become a less attractive option for me and my family. Flights are constantly delayed (23 hours once, 14 and 8 hours on other trips) in TIJ as well.Visited March 2023Traveled with familyWritten March 21, 2023
- Lorraine Anne SMelbourne, Australia7 contributionsLong waitUsed CBX to cross from Tijuana into San Diego. All in all it took about 90 minutes from when we landed to finally getting into San Diego. The lines were long. The customs line was pretty confusing to navigate on the US with nobody telling us where to go (which resulted in us lining up in the wrong line) and then getting in trouble by the customs person. Once we were on the San Diego side there was no clear area for rideshare and it just felt like mayhem to be honest. On the plus side, I had a lot of questions prior to using CBX because I’m from Australia and wasn’t sure about the protocols. Their customer service people were INCREDIBLY helpful in the lead up to using CBX.Visited April 2023Traveled as a coupleWritten April 6, 2023
- Hector T1 contributionWorth it if you know what to expect!Passing over a bridge is awesome! You don't have to go into Tijuana! Parking at CBX is dicey. Depending on the season you may struggle to find a spot. Ground transportation may be a solution. I only tried Mexicoach and they cancelled my ride with no advanced knowledge!Visited April 2023Written April 18, 2023
- JAD B1 contributionMade the trip easierPremium parking was expensive but easy to use. I dropped of passenger first, then went to park. I printed out all parking and XBorder crossing passes just incase. NOTE: you do not need to pay for a FMM visa unless you are staying 7 days or more!!!! Complete it online in advance and it will save you a lot of time! There is no baggage check-in on the US side, you have to cross over with your bags and check in with the airlines on the other side. Baggage carts are free and available on the US side. Returning you will not find the carts till you get past the entrance gate on the Mexican side. The entrance to XBorder is right in baggage claim in TJ. We returned at 11 PM so there were no lines at the CBP entry booths especially if you have SENTRI or Global Entry. Very easy to use and I hope the costs come down. One in the party crossed at Otay pedestrian with a small carry on, got a taxi to the airport, and beat us to the gate. You need a valid Passport!!! Or you will be turned away and have to cross at Otay!Visited April 2023Written April 18, 2023
- 1LadyKathyCorona, California319 contributionsAlmost perfectI used this border crossing for a flight in Tijuana for the 1st time. My husband had used it before. It would have been perfect had they allowed the place where we parked our car to be able to drive us to the gate, but we had to walk a distance with luggage in tow. 🤬🤬🤬 The parking place stated they wanted to charge them a fee to use their street to drop us off. Not sure why, other than corporate greed, when there is free parking on the street.Visited May 2023Traveled as a coupleWritten May 18, 2023
- Rene_918012 contributionsFreaking mess CBXThe crossing between the USA 🇺🇸 was great. It's the return back to the USA that I had a problem and ended up in Tijuana as the exit signs didn't communicate well to follow CBX . I ended up getting a taxi to the USA border and waiting in line. Then getting another taxi to come to CBX. Then my CBX time to exit the parking had been existed by 30 minutes and had to pay $33.00 more. It was a freaking mess. So the point is put a big sign so everyone can see and follow.Visited August 2023Traveled with familyWritten August 9, 2023
- The ELos Angeles, California1 contributionProblem with CBXThe description stated that the Tijuana airport would connect with the San Diego airport by the CBX. However we came out about 20 miles from the main San Diego airport, and had to buy transportation back to it. That should have been made clear.Visited August 2023Traveled with familyWritten August 22, 2023

I gave it a few weeks to try to avoid posting this negative review but I can't get over the fact that this service made us miss our flight.
I did everything online beforehand and came with my tickets and fmm ready to go. Well, when you get there, those buying tickets on site get front of the line treatment, keep that in mind. After waiting in line for a few minutes we finally get through, or so we thought. We get about half way through the bridge and then hit the bottleneck of people. It's 6am, Feb 13th and although there are no people crossing south at this time through the regular border crossings (Otay or San ysidro) CBX is ridiculously backed up. It took us almost an hour, then to boot, we had luggage to check in and we get set outside of cbx (instead of the cbx counter for checking in) and have to wait on the regular check in line. By the time we get to the counter it's too late and we miss our flight. CBX is a farce, it is not convenient, and it is a rip-off. We managed to book a flight the next day but took a cab to the border, walked across (Otay) and got another cab to the airport. Total time from US border to checking in and onto terminal was under 20 minutes.
I have since advised anyone I know that's traveling south to NOT use CBX. They are terrible. Buyer beware.

We paid $150 to park at the premium parking lot to avoid delays, so when we arrived at CBX the premium parking lot was closed with a sign saying it was full even though we could see plenty of empty space in the lot. We drove around the lots for about 20 min until we were able to find someone from CBX once ee found we ask the the person to open the lot for us. The person directed us to the premium lot entrance, but nobody ever showed up so we had to move the sign ourselves to enter the parking lot without assistance. Once we were finally inside the building the chaos we experienced there was unbelievable. Plus, not only you find NO staff to assist with directions on where to go, but the ones you find are completely clueless of where passengers should go. Long story short we were sent to so many diferente lines that we ended up loosing our flight which is very annoying because we arrived 3 hours ahead of time just like it was recomended in their website and still it wasn’t enough. Such a wait of money and time.

This was our first time traveling via Tijuana Airport using CBX. We had reviewed all of the horror stories so prior to travel we were concerned. The experience was not bad and it was the lack of familiarity for the rating. We traveled on a Friday morning in late July, as a family of six with a two year old and car seat, stroller, etc. was burdensome. We arrived at 7am, parking was sufficient, lots of people park on the street to avoid fees so there was a sufficient number of spots in lots #1 & #2 at $18 per day. We were traveling from Riverside Area and allotted two hours for the commute with minimal traffic on I-15 at 0500 hrs. We purchased everything online, health questionnaires were completed, boarding passes in hand, and the CBX roundtrip was printed as well. We had no problems coming or going and everything in hand was definitely an advantage from completing anything electronically or hard copy, highly recommended. Overall, I think it would be more fluid if we tried this again but I think it would be worth the time with an adults only group or midweek travel. I can see how peak periods of ingress and egress vacationers would rate the experience poorly. It doesn't see like CBX personnel are ready for heavy travel periods without traveler frustrations. That being said, I wouldn't avoid CBX vs LAX. I wrote this review due to the numerous negative reviews over traveler frustrations which we didn't experience. Hope this helps.

This is a very efficient way to access cheap flights to destinations in Mexico. My flight was from Tijuana to Merida and it was way easier to navigate in Tijuana Airport through CBX than Mexico City Airport. I don't know how crowded it may be during a peak season. But, considering limited number of checkpoints through CBX, waiting can be considerable.

What an easy, seamless, safe and convenient way to go into Tijuana airport and Mexico. Parking is onsite for a fee or there is street parking which is free and you can leave your car there and travel. Not sure how safe it is, but I would chance it. It took 30 minutes from entering CBX to get to my gate and they check your temperature, give you hand sanitizer and move you along. I was very impressed with coming back into TJ via CBX because that took 22 minutes and there was nobody in line at Customs and easy out. There is a food truck outside once you get out of CBX and you don't have to take a COVID test either way. I highly recommend this and will definitely use it in the future. There is a CBX shuttle for a fee that will take you to and from downtown at fixed times.

This is not just the best way to cross the border to and from the Tijuana airport, in my mind it is the only way.... This cuts down travel time by hours..... I suggest you pre-pay for your CBX crossing ticket when you purchase your tickets and the information will be with your boarding pass and will seamlessly assist you across the border. If you are traveling with a group to the same destination the computer system for Mexican customers allows you to enter most of the information just once to cutdown on time as well. ASK FOR HELP!!! If you have never used the system before and customer service personnel will assist.

I had heard a lot about this skybridge to go across the border and didn't think I would ever need to use it. However, I had a chance to do it recently and the experience was terrible. On December 24th, 2022, our flight from Irvine, CA was cancelled to Cabo. I was afraid flights to Mexico from Los Angles would be sold out already so I bought tickets to fly a Viva Aerobus flight from Tijuana to Cabo.
First of all, when we got to the CBX, all parking lots were closed and someone gave us a direction to a remote "off airport parking" and when we got there there was only one car that had its hood open and seems to be broken apart. So, we had to use the Valet parking.
Before we waked across the bridge, we "checked in" with an airline staff. We asked her if our flight was on time and she said it looked so in the system. So we paid $115 for a family of 4 and filled out a form to go across the bridge.
After we got to the other end of the bridge, there was a short line at the Mexican border. An officer asked us some questions and stamped on our passports and we were in Mexico! That was the easy part.
Then we walked to our counter and the line was not moving at all. Then a passenger went to the front of the line and told everybody that no one can check in to the Cabo flight yet and there will be an announcement in about 15 minutes. We waited and waited and we just realized in the waiting area, there were hundreds of people all lying on the floor. A lady came to me and told me she and her husband had been there all night last night, and there is still no flight departing from the airport.
There was never an announcement. The staff at the counter said she did not speak English to everyone who asked her questions. Eventually, a manager came out and told people that they did not know when the airplane was going to be there, and she suggested all passengers change the flight to another date.
It was then that we found out that you cannot walk back to the United States from the same bridge, because it is only for people who arrived to TIJ airport by flights. We had to go out of the terminal, and got on a taxi to go to the San Ysidro border to walk back to San Diego. The taxi was almost broken down and it drove through some very sketchy neighborhoods. Some of my family members thought we were going to die there.
Finally, after it got dark, we got back to the CBX terminal and got our car back and drove back home. It was a waste of my time and I will never use the CBX again. Luckily, the next day, our flight from LAX to Cabo flew smoothly and we eventually had a good holiday in Cabo. I think it is important to let other people know that you cannot walk back from the bridge if something happens to your flight.

I arrived CBX in Otay 4 hours ahead after reading all the recent negative reviews. I just crossed the CBX into TIJ and now I have 3 +hours before my flight departure.
They have changed the process and made it automated. I could see this new automated process being a challenge if one is not comfortable using a touch screen computer. I didn’t see any paper version of the FMM form. One should go to the computer and fill out the FMM form as soon as they enter the door. Touch screen. Enter name, address and scan passport. The printer automatically print out your FMM form.
It also saved me a lot of time having my CBX ticket prepaid and make sure you have the QR code ready to be scanned by the machine. Again it’s an automated process. For those without the QR code , they had to go to the one and only person and that line can be long. I would recommend downloading the CBX app on your phone and purchase it on the app. The QR code will be available on your phone.
After the CBX check in and an easy walk through the tunnel, right before immigration, make sure you stop by the bank counter (see picture) and pay for your FMM if you will be in Mexico over 7 days. 598 pesos and they accept credit card. If your stay is less than a week, there is no need to pay and you can just go straight to the immigration line.
CBX had limited staff available for assistance and most speak only Spanish. But if one is computer savvy and read about the process online before arriving, I found this process much easier than the old paper version.
Don’t let the negative review scare you away. This is a much cheaper and easier channel flying into Mexico. Safe travels everyone.

CBX makes using the Tijuana Airport a breeze and is worth every penny. Not only do you get to use the secure crossing bridge but you also get to conveniently check in to your flight at the uncrowded CBX US check in counters. Returning to the US is the easiest border crossing with the shortest wait at passport control. A couple of tips: check for promo codes online (I saved $6 RT) and print your QR code just in case your phone stops working. If you plan to leave your car, there are pay parking lots ($18-$20/day) or you can park on the street. Just make sure to check the signs and not to park in the turn lanes. We parked on the street for 4 nights without any problems but I saw many parking tickets on cars parked in the turn lanes, so be aware.

There were pluses and minuses to using CBX.
On the plus side: flying out of TIJ was much cheaper than SAN, even with the $30 fee to use CBX; getting my boarding passes was quick; and I seemed to be the only person using CBX at the time so it was very fast to get through.
There were many things that could be improved, though. It was not obvious that a Mexican Tourist Card needed to be filled out and the station could easily be missed. Plus, I needed assistance to fill it out since it asks for an address where I'll be staying in Mexico. I'm not staying in Mexico, I'm just in transit, but that isn't an option. Also, besides the man at the check-in counter, no one seemed to speak English. I was still on the US side of the border and everyone was speaking to me in Spanish. I am not Hispanic (though, I do speak Spanish) so I'm not sure why this was their default language. Lastly, the route to get through the maze of CBX, duty-free shops, customs, security, and more security was not well marked and I could have easily been lost if I didn't speak Spanish.

I have a flight from La Paz to TJ arriving at 2:30 pm midweek. How much time should I allow to get to the San Diego Airport, with carryon bag, to get through customs, and Uber to the SD airport for a flight home to Northern California? I have a TSA # and CLEAR. Thank you.

I think with your TSA pre check you should breeze all the way through. I’m not familiar with Clear or what it does. I can say I didn’t notice any’Covid’ check points and no mask requirement.
Sorry I can’t comment on length of time to get to SD airport- that’s an unknown .

Debating wether I should buy reserved parking passes or do street parking at the CBX parking lot.
I’d like to save as much money as possible and the street parking is only 15$ a night. However it’s first come, first serve. I have to be there for a flight at 5AM. Do you guys think I’ll be okay and find street parking? Or should I reserve a spot instead. Will it be that busy at 5AM?
If I get there and there’s so street parking, I’m screwed. A reservation can only be set 6hrs before you arrive.

Tuve mi pasaporte de los Estados Unidos, no se y lo siento.
I bought 2 ticket through Volaris that included the CBX border crossing pass. I recently changed the name on one of tickets and have not received an updated CBX pass with the new name. I called Volaris and they said I have to wait 24 hours before the flight to make the changes, or call CBX to see what they can do. I’m a little worried though since it’s so last minute.
Has anyone gone through this before? Any tips on what I should do?
