My girlfriend and I spent 6 days on the water in San Diego with Captain Lee Pearce at the Learn to Sail sailing school in San Diego. We stayed on his 37 foot Beneteau sailboat at night and sailed it with him during the day. By the end, we had both passed the certification tests for the American Sailing Association courses 101,103, and 104. A busy week but tons of fun. Lee has been sailing for for most of his life and teaching for the last 20. He’s personable, knowledgeable, and fun. I’d recommend him for anyone interested in sailing. Great guy, great trip.

My wife gave me a 3 hour learn to sail lesson for my birthday and I took a friend and we had a blast. Lee is a great guy, provided just enough lessons for a vice and let us sail through the Bay. Definitely recommend this as a wonderful way to spend the afternoon.

Captain Richie and Melinda (one of the owners) were absolutely fantastic! We entered the week-long class (101/103/104/114 certifications) with almost no prior experience and exited competent skippers because of the fantastic and rigorous training by captain Richie. I would strongly recommend doing the live-aboard with only 2 students and taking the add-on trip to Catalina. We learned so much by being on a boat for 7 days and got lots of practice docking and anchoring. As a bonus, we happened across a huge mega-pod of dolphins and were the only boat in sight. Can’t say enough about our experience, absolutely top notch!

We wanted to learn the ropes somewhere sunny, so my husband did a ton of research into sailing schools in Hawaii, California and Florida. We were so lucky and thankful to have chosen Learn to Sail San Diego! Lee was incredibly accommodating; sending us the books immediately after we made reservations, airport pick up and drop off, and many other thoughtful things he went out of his way to do to make it the best possible experience! His sloop was immaculate and well outfitted for our 6 night “live-aboard”. He proved to be an fabulous instructor with endless patience and humor. I was a total beginner and struggled at first with understanding the fundamentals of sailing (trim, tacking and jibing....not to mention the rules of the road). By the end of day 3, and after many explanations, hands on experience and opportunities to ask for clarification, it was like a switch flipped and I had a major “AHA!” moment. It was a lot of work, but so much fun, and with it, a great sense of accomplishment! We got in plenty of sightseeing too! Can’t wait to charter a yacht in BVI this winter! Thanks a million Lee!!!

We were looking for the opportunity to experience the live aboard experience and improve our sailing abilities. Learn to Sail San Diego fulfilled both goals. Lee was a patient, knowledgable instructor who worked well with an adult and two teenagers while being reassuring with my wife. Recommend highly.

Our family of four (mom, dad and two teens) spent a week living and sailing aboard the lovely yacht Tenacious certifying in ASA 101, 103, 104. We had worried we wouldn't be able to cover so much material, but Captain Lee Pearce was a great instructor! He sent us the books to study ahead of time (recommended!). He was patient with us, answered all our questions, gave us great experience on the water, and met our other needs for supplies and transport. This is the ONLY way to learn to sail! Our little family feels confident that we can tackle a fun sailing adventure. Thanks Lee!

My girlfriend and I had a 3-day sailing instruction with Captain Lee Pierce, who is a great teacher. He taught us the skills and gave us the confidence to sail. We were coming from Arizona, so we were allowed to sleep on the beautiful new boat at night. We scheduled the certification ahead of time so Lee could send us the course books to study before we arrived (American Sailing Association course 101 and 103). Captain Lee was very patient with us, and we had a lot of fun each day. It feels great to be able to sail! We are excited to try out our new skills. Highly recommended!

Mike and I sailed with Lee Pearce last week and had a fabulous time! Whether you have 3 hours or 3 days, this is a great way to enjoy San Diego! We saw whales, dolphins, sea lions, and all the other attractions of San Diego Bay. Don't forget your sunglasses!
