Open since 1962, PB Surf Shop is the oldest surf shop and school in San Diego, based in beautiful Pacific Beach on the Boardwalk and mere steps from the ocean. We’ve taught thousands of surf lessons and pioneered the San Diego surf camp and surf lesson programs. San Diego’s Most Trusted Surf School offers a safe, fun, and memorable experience for all. We have been in business for more than 55 years. Each year we teach more than 3,500 men, women, boys and girls, how to surf. Surf camp is actually a great way to make the experience of learning to surf safe, and fun. Our program is dedicated to safety and structured to provide a fun and enriching setting for youth to build the self-confidence necessary to develop into true water-women and men. We also have the largest selection of equipment rentals and the latest surf products at the lowest price so you can find exactly what you’re looking for. We rent foam, epoxy and fiberglass surfboards

My girls had never surfed before but really wanted to try. PB Surf Shop was perfect for them. Kevin was amazing with them as they were a bit nervous but he made them feel confident in their ability to surf and it showed. They fed off his fun loving, high energy personality and loved every minute of it. They were ready to surf all day. I would highly recommend PB Surf Shop and Kevin as an instructor.

Frankie was our instructor on this cold day and he had so much patience with us. We gave him a challenge with two older ladies and no experience at all but he stayed upbeat, encouraging and kept us trying. We will be back to give it another go!

I booked the group session. We were 4 people and the teacher was absolutely friendly, helpful, motivating, attentive and cater to everyone’s level. It was an amazing experience and was a lot of fun:) I’d go there more often if the prices were a bit lower.

Stayed in PB for our honeymoon and used this shop for my husband to rent a surfboard and take my first surf lesson. Everyone who works here is extremely friendly, laid back, and has a positive attitude. Highly recommend for anyone looking to rent quality gear or take lessons. Hope to be back soon!

Best surf rentals ever! Randy and his team (Chad and Robby) took such incredible care of me during my last visit to San Diego. I didn't want to travel with my boards and took the risk to try some rentals which rarely ends up being a good prospect. They had the best selection that I have ever seen during surf travel. I rented a Gary Linden shape that they recommended and it was absolutely perfect. They also had tons of Rusty shapes as well as many other reputable brands. If you're a beginner, I can't imagine better people to learn from. Thanks so much guys, I will definitely see you next trip. Really enjoyed talking surfing with you, didn't want to leave!

Professional, approachable, and courteous.
Adam made us feel like he was part of our family when we started our lesson. He captured the kids (8 & 9yo) attention immediately and went over the basics of safety for our boards before diving into the lesson. Also extra kudos for keeping his cool after one other instructor took the board that he laid out for us.
Would definitely come back again either during this trip or next if we continue learning how to surf.
PB Mgmt, Adam is top shelf material. Job well done!

Ian took me out and had me up and riding in no time. Everybody in the shop is super friendly and enthusiastic and really wants first time surfers to have a great experience. Had a blast!

My first time surfing. Rented a board and wetsuit for three days for only 60 dolars at the shop with the best location on Pacific Beach. Could return board and suit every day and pick-up whenever convenient. Always a fresh, clean suit. Also leaving my suitcase in the shop on the day of my flight home was no problem at all. Only happy friendly people at the PB surf shop. Highly recommended.
Oh, and a free tip for all surfers out there: take of your wedding ring before you go out into the Pacific!

Great shop to rent quality gear from, including actual fiberglass & epoxy boards. Also lots of boogie boards and sand toys.
