We visited some museums in Balboa Park and walked across the bridge to visit the rose garden. There are so many different colors and varieties of roses in this garden it's breathtaking. Find a shady place to sit and enjoy the sound of silence

This is a wonderful place to stop and literally "smell the roses". They were in full bloom at the beginning of April. So many different types of roses. All different colors, sizes, smells, shapes...

A previous review stated there were not many foot bridges in San Diego however there are actually seven within the reach of the rose garden. Find the write up in the San Diego Reader featuring the Quince Street Bridge spanning Maple Canyon.

This area is extremely small, but extremely beautiful. It is also fun merely to walk over the footbridge to enter the rose garden as there aren't many footbridges in San Diego, so crossing it makes one feel that one is about to enter a place of stillness and solitude :)

This is an area that has a decidedly contrived rose garden (connected circles; one with a fountain in the middle) next to a densely packed cacti installation. If the roses are blooming you’ll want to hang around. I walk by here on my way to and from the desert garden, and always manage to get some interesting photos. If you... More

A couple days into my San Diego I had heard about all its military bases and history, toured the USS Midway, cruised past numerous naval ships and crawled through a Soviet sub that once carried two nuclear warheads. I felt ready for nature and headed towards Balboa Park. Caught the #7 at City College station (11th Ave.), then pulled the... More

Just off balboa park is this rose garden. You can walk through quite quickly. Great for taking photographs. I wouldn't go out of my way to visit this but if you are near the science museum or natural history museum it's just across the street.

We visited in October and I was surprised to find most of the roses in bloom. As an avid gardener, I appreciated the huge variety, and the pleasant scents all around. Yes I did stop and smell each and every variety. The garden is very well tended, and I did not note any sign of pests or disease. If I... More

This rose garden isn't as big as some of the others that I have visited, but it had some of the healthiest roses I've ever seen. It also had a great variety of roses and was well cared for.
