On the first Friday of every month this gallery and museum area has an open house. Entry is free and this area is alive with sights and sounds. Many places also offer free nibbles to enjoy.

What a find. Old navy station converted over to a mixed use retail/ restaurant complex. The buildings retain many of the features from the original barracks and serve up a cultural plethora of food from Taiwan, Italian, Filipino to Maine Lobster and regional cuisine. Everything we sampled was delicious and reasonably priced.
Plenty of outdoor seating with breathtaking views of the immaculate grounds and downtown. Parking was convenient and plentiful at 6 p.m. on a Friday night.
Bonus. Some of the scenes from Top Gun were shot here and it is fun seeking out those sites from those movie scenes.
Easy 20 minute drive from Mission Valley.
Next time you are in San Diego, take some time to explore this unique culinary destination

It is a huge area and the buildings and grounds are kept very well. It is nice to walk around and explore. However we were there one morning and it looks very deserted and not very welcoming. We found a nice cafe "Chi Chocolate" and there were lots of people sitting inside so there are people around. Coming back in the afternoon it was a bit livelier. I guess you need to go there in the evening.

I read some of the other reviews, and was not sure what I would see. I was hoping to find local artisans where I could buy local work, but most of them seemed to be closed (went on Saturday). I walked to several buildings, going upstairs to where the studios are located, but many were not there. At the far end is a huge open market place with food stalls and folks selling items, but not what I was looking for. As mentioned by others, very spread out. I think if you go for a specific class/event it would be satisfying but to just stroll around is tiring.

I love Liberty Station.. what a way to transform an old military outpost. Museums, art galleries, restaurants, even Von's grocery.. are located in this restored parklike space. Be prepared to spend a few hours, and check local websites for cultural activities and show. The only drawback are the planes taking off from nearby Lindbergh Field

My favorite is the water color museum which has classes in the art group but there is a public market with tons of vendors, 50 diner, Fig Cafe, Bakery Cafe, and many more restuarants that I want to go back and try. Parking is easy and the bay is right there as well.

We were visiting San Diego to see an art show that had one of my wife's paintings in the show. Killing some time we wandered all around Liberty Station and were greatly entertained by the various shops and galleries and places to eat. The entire old Navy campus is huge, and we ended up going back to see more of the various places to shop etc. We were going to eat breakfast at the "Breakfast Republic" but the line was out the door and down the hall. Must be good!! We did eat at the Market and enjoyed it a great deal. Frankly we didn't know Liberty Station existed before this visit, but we will make sure to return the next time we visit San Diego.

San Diego is so smart they took a formal military base & turned into shopping center with galleries, women’s museum, restaurants, & movie theater.

We visited the art district at Liberty Station in San Diego with grand son and we had a fabulous time there with all of the artists there doing different art work. Grandson had a great time there and the food there was also diverse and good. We had lunch there and it was great. The atmosphere was very nice and pleasant for family. Highly recommend if in the San Diego area that you pay a visit there.

Great find on our recent visit to SD. We were pleasantly surprised to see what San Diego did with its former Naval Training Center. Located in Point Loma, this place has it all...beautiful views of the water, park like gardens and greenery, restaurants, public market, art galleries and many more. If you just want to relax and soak up the sun leisurely, this is a great place to spend a day!

We will be traveling to this area June 23 to 25th. Will the Art Museum be open or partially open
at that time?
Thank You
Written June 9, 2020
Yes, ARTS DISTRICT will be partially open. Since we have over 16 buildings with over 100 galleries, museums and working artist studios, not all will be fully open as each business is unique and will open as they are able. We will definitely have some dining open, if you call ahead to Solare you can make a reservation to eat at their amazing Italian restaurant. You can find a list of the businesses that are open during this time on our Liberty Station Website too.
I would also say check out Barracks 19 at 2690 Historic Decatur Rd., upstairs is all working artist studios and there is a cafe on the lower level called Chi Chocolat. Liberty Station is also a great place to walk/bike around with large promenades and outdoor public art to view. Thank you for your interest in making Liberty Station one of your trip destinations. We hope you stay safe and enjoy your visit!

We're in SD on Tuesday through Thursday. Are they good days to go to the Arts District?
Written August 7, 2019
I would say yes. It is always more crowded on the weekends.

How far is it from the international airport? What public transportation can I take to reach the place? Thanks for advice
Written May 13, 2019
Liberty Station is about 3 km (2 miles) from the airport. San Diego has a bus system, but we used Uber to get around. I'd suggest Uber to get from the airport to Liberty Station. It would probably cost less than $10.
