Do you like boundary less homeless people? Dirtbags? Crappy dive bars filled with aggressively drunk dirt bags? Zero parking? Then ocean beach is the community for you! You too can pretend you are part of a "seaside hippy community" with "character." You can witness the nightly brawls on Newport Avenue as you dodge meth heads on your way back from the dirtiest beach in San Diego. I hate when I have to go to this part of town because my other friends refuse to grow out of their 24 year old dive bar phase. Avoid OB if you have kids or standards.

We feel bad for the lifelong residents in OB because their cozy little town has gone to crap, literally. Sadly, the homeless population is huge combined with mental illness and drugs, OB is methed up. Group encampments on every street near every business with home base at pier and beach. Tweeked out jacked up screaming creeping exposing defecating lost souls everywhere with foul atmosphere of urine stained streets littered with trash and human waste, all this experienced within 2 mile radius of our lodging between Abbott, Newport, Cable, and Santa Monica. Also there were pyro thugs going to random locations in town once dark shooting off M80s way to close to buildings and brush. OB needs their mayor, city council, PD to take action, cleanup, rescue and revitalize that community. First impression of OB is discouraging. No plans of returning anytime soon. Seek elsewhere for a safe clean sun, surf and sand experience.

We enjoyed watching the surfers. We watched a pelican harass some fishermen on the pier. We stayed for the sunset.

Average seaside place. Parking was free but didnt really like the look of it. Mainly surfers and fisherman. Long concrete pier with extended arm at the end but view back wasnt really worth the walk. I am sure if I lived or was staying nearby I would be pleased to near the area but not worth a trip for a tourist, sorry. You may well be pleased about that.

I love a great beach and this one was good. The beach itself is nice, clean, and contained a few seashells. I enjoyed walking under the pier at low tide on the rocks. What I didn't like was all of the druggies surrrounding the area. The pot smell was at times unbearable and I thought smoking marijuana was illegal in public places. That was a turn-off for me. I saw several people that were so high they were stumbling around.
