Hippies' beach

Really strange...but cool. A lot of people dressed like Hippies. Colours, music. A lot of originals souvenirs shops....and great beach...look the sunset in the pictures below.

OB is maturing, but is still a step back into the 60's (groovy man). Lots of bars... LOTS! - and restaurants - some of which are better than others of course. I have favorites but I probably shouldn't list them here. This is a tourist place - especially Newport Ave (the main drag). I could live in OB if I... More

Ocean Beach was my family and I's first look at the Pacific. Following dinner at Hodad's we strolled down to the beach, dipped our toes in the ocean, and watched the sun go down. We were fascinated by how different the beach is from back home in New Jersey besides the sunset over the water. It is free, unlike in... More

Like something from a movie, you have bicycles, rollerblades, volleyball, and bikinis. The quintessential CA beach. Just lounge or go play hard. People watching is just as much fun as the water!

Can get a bit windy at times but is still one of the best beaches around. Lots going on and close to restaurants and shops

Fairly clean but lots of homeless. Coronado beach was much nicer. Great pier. The pier is really long and stretches over the ocean. Very nice.

I took a group of students here to experience a little of California's typical beach scene and a dip in the pacific. We showed up just before sunset and they had a marvelous time. The waves were strong but not scary and the vibe int he whole area was one of laid-back relaxation. We were able to reach the beach... More

We stayed 3 nights on Voltaire in an Air BNB condo and the location was great. We enjoyed the coffee bars, the pier, even the dog beach. Don't forget to have lunch at Hodad's on Newport.

Ocean Beach is much less crowded than other beaches we visited. It also had better parking available. The showers were okay. It was fun having the dog beach there and being able to watch the dogs playing in the surf.
