Great beach, hippy vibe!

I loved this beach, it's clean and the sand is warm beneath your feet! There are lots of quirky shops and places to eat!

The pier is one of the most amazing places I've ever stepped foot on. As you start down you see fisherman lining the walk way as well as all sorts of birds. The surfers are just to the right and always crushing waves. It's a great place to think and appreciate the smell of the ocean air.

Ocean beach is an amazing place for the whole family. You can totally jump in the water, play volleyball at the many nets, surf or just sit in the sun because it always seems to be sunny there.

This is a largely residential community in San Diego that still has the feel and vibe that you'd expect in California. It's a lot of fun to walk around the shops and restaurants, and really enjoyable to watch the surfers near the pier. I recommend it as a place to stay and get away from the typical tourist areas.

Easy to get to by bus. It is a laid back old-time California beach. Ready to go back. Quirky shops and restaurants.

This kind of a strange place, lots of quirky strange people here and tons of homeless people just hanging out on the beach.

Visiting OB for the first time, we walked to the pier & the shops along Newport St. The beach itself is popular & the waves were large. Brave souls in May were trying to swim but you could tell they were freezing. The sidewalk along the edge does not go far so if you are out for a walk, you... More

The tide going out exposes a great shore line with all the little creatures and polls that deserve your look. Walk along the sand and check out both the local surfers and beach inhabitants. Take a break, get a coffee and sit on the beach for a relaxing refreshing time out

I came here to see a cool beach but the major theme here was the hippie atmosphere. This is not the stereotypical beach with sand and surf. The beach is fine black sand but not terribly wide. I checked out the shops nearby and saw lots of place for incense and weed products. Lots of hippie/street people types and their... More

Avoid going to Ocean Beach near sunset when the weather is nice, because the traffic getting there is terrible and finding a place to park is nearly impossible. Best to go during the day, midweek and not during the summer.
