We love spending time in this area each time we visit San Diego. Along the bay is a beautiful walk and there is much to do. We have taken the ferry at Broadway Pier across the bay to Coronado, visited the USS Midway museum, walked through the shops at Seaport Village, and had dinner at Brigantine Portside Pier where we had a table outside with a view of the incredible sunset. The Sea of India is gorgeous at night with all of the lights. Highly recommend!

I would say this is a must do whilst in San Diego. It is extremely pleasant with so much to see. The amazing statues like 'Unconditional Surrender' and National Salute to Bob Hope and the Military should not be missed. The walk includes Seaport village which contains some cute shops in a lovely setting.

I have always enjoyed going to Seaport village while in SD. The only challenge here is the parking, there is no free parking but we have to pay and park, and it's bit expensive. Nice walk next to the ocean, good restaurants, nice cookie shop, coffee shop etc., A wonderful place overall and a must visit place.

Awesome walking path that is clean safe and lots to look at along the way. Walk along the bay, local shops to stop into for treats or shopping, bathrooms along the way, and great seating to take a break/enjoy the view/weather. Great place to visit.

Well, the walk itself is very pretty along the Bay and through the Marina area. You can watch the boats, sailing and Navy Ships & Planes coming and going, visit a retired aircraft carrier complete with vintage planes.
Also, lots of good people watching, dog walking and joggers.
On the other hand, Seaport Village is VERY touristy. By that I mean lots of overpriced and mediocre restaurants and eateries (with a couple exceptions), souvenir and tee shirt shops (or crap shops as I call them) all geared towards the thousands of conventioneers and out-of-towners.
In addition, one of San Diego's biggest problems is on full display. The beautiful walkway and most of the grassy areas where one might want to sit and enjoy a lunch or views, is full of homeless, vagrants and the debris they leave behind.

The entire Bay Walk trail is the length of the waterfront, between the beautiful art deco San Diego County Administration Building (and park) all the way up to the Hilton and the Convention Center. It's about a mile and a half one-way and passes by the cruise ports, the Star of India tall ship, departures for water excursions, Midway, and cruise ship terminals. There are eateries along the way. It really is a highlight of any trip to San Diego.
We traveled on the Coaster from Carlsbad (this visit) and making our way down to the Bay Walk was high on our list.

We walked the boardwalk after visiting Midway Aircraft Carrier. Went a day early for a cruise out of San Diego to visit the area. It was December and the weather was cool, but very nice. we walked the boardwalk in late afternoon. Many sites to see including the Kissing Statue, quaint (but expensive) shops and restaurants. We also encounter some homeless people pan handling and or living on the boardwalk

This time we cruised into San Diego on the Princess Cruise Lines. We walked from the cruise terminal to Seaport Village/Hyatt Regency area. This is a splendid walk by the bay. We saw the skyline, Midway, military statues, tuna fishing fleet, and more. The wal is very pleasant.

Great place to go for a leisurely stroll. We walked this area multiple times while we were in San Diego. It was fun to see all the ships, people watch (tons of fun!), and explore. It was actually pretty clean, and people were quite nice. Seaport Village is a bit touristy, but we still enjoyed wandering around and checking out the little shops. I would highly recommend taking the time to enjoy this area.

I highly recommend walking here in the evening. Great views on the Sunset. Pictures from our iPhone and Andriod look like poster cards. The breeze in the evening is great. Lots of people walking, running .... Plenty of places to eat, drink, caffe. I would go back the next time I am here.

It's as long as you want as there are seats and eateries all around. . We walked from where the trolley bus dropped us off all the way to the park at the far end but there was more we could have done - all the way to the train station I think.

I'm heading up to San Diego on Sunday staying for a few days and wanted to know if its cold and were would be a nice place to get a room

Tough to answer such a general question. It truly depends on what you like. Also the purpose of the visit may predetermine the locale. Generally speaking you cannot go wrong with Glasslamp district hotels. You will be where action is and close to everything. We stayed in former St James hotel - an-oldie-goldie - now a Ramada. The waterfront hotels are more expensive but the view is great.

Is it okay to do a drive around San Diego bay? Wondering about traffic, time, beach areas, etc.
Written May 7, 2017
So sorry for the delay in responding, family illness. It is. It too bad getting around; like many other cities it has its busy moments but there is a lot to see and while we did not go to the beach. We did hear how beautiful it was. It is very easy to drive to one area of interest, park and walk around.

No maps required. Just go to the bay and walk along the side of it and you will see it all
