Our group of 4 joined a group of 14 for a tour of the market and cooking with Francesco at his home in Golden Hill (2 minute drive from the market). Come with ideas of ingredients you'd like to prepare "Italian" style to help build the menu for the experience. Take this tour even if you are an accomplished home cook. You will add tricks/tools to your repertoire. Engage in this experience even if you are a novice in the kitchen. Francesco will help you learn that simple methods yield restaurant quality results. You'll never need to order pasta at a restaurant again!

A wonderful tour and tasting of Little Italy! Guide provided interesting trivia about the Little Italy area. The group was from different locales around the United States and everyone enjoyed great conversation. Food was wonderful and portions substantial.

Fantastic tour with Adriana. We learnt so much about Little Italy and tasted some fantastic food. We were unsure what the servings would be like but they were a good size and easily made us feel like we’d had our evening meal. We had lots of fun and highly recommend the tour.

My husband and I did the food market and cooking class tour. Francesco ( aka Ciccio) was our guide in the market. We started at 11A on a Saturday and meet at Amici park in Little Italy by the bocci ball court. FYI. During a weekend they have public parking for $12 next to dog park portion of Amici park area. We didn’t know this and paid $25 for the day at the public parking lot down the road.

Our group was probably 15 people. We walked through the market and sampled lots of different foods. Not just Italian ingredients. We sampled fresh milk. Organic Mexican salsas. Dates. Etc. This food market walk through took about an hour maybe a little more. There are public restrooms along the market area too FYI. It was very crowded, and it was a lot of fun to sample and explore with the group of people! The market tour portion was to Decide what ingredients we needed to get in order to cook three courses. We made a bruschetta, chicken with dates, and a carbonara. There was a person on our tour who had a seafood/ shellfish allergy which meant that we couldn’t use any of those ingredients for any of the courses, which was definitely a bummer because that’s a major food group to not be allowed to cook. But the meals we ended up making were awesome.

After the food market we then went to the next location to cook and put together the ingredients that we got at the food market. This location was very close by. Only 5-10 mins driving from Amici park. This is the home of Ciccio and his fellow colleagues Adissa and Valentina. They were super welcoming and so hospitable. They served fresh infused flavored water, wine, apretif spread of italian charcuterie, olives, cheeses! It was delicious.

We all sat around the table and began making th dishes but chopping and dicing ingredients. Ciccio and the girls all helped explain background to the foods. Conversation was flowing with all the new people we met.

The best part of this tour was the vibe and energy. It truly was so fun to meet Ciccio, Adissa and Valentine, and then the fellow tour mates.

Definitely recommend this tour to anyone !!

Thanks so much guys! Well definitely be back for pasta night.

We live in San Diego and have gone to Little Italy many times. With an out-of-town guest we took the tour with Francesco as our guide. It was a wonderful time. He was entertaining and knowledgeable. We visited three places that we had not eaten at and they were excellent. The knowledge of the food and wine was informative and the stories and discussion was lively and enjoyable. it will be a stop whenever guests come to visit.

This was a great tour. Our guide Francesco did a great job giving us the history of Little Italy and gave us the chance to taste many great Italian dishes and drinks. Francesco is from Sicily and is a chef himself and gave us an informative talk about Italian food differences in Italy and the US. You can even hire Francesco to come to your house and prepare a meal for you and friends. Highly recommend.

My father and I visited San Diego and while planning what to do tourist-wise I stumbled upon Little Italy Food Tours. We decided to sign up for two, the Neighborhood Tour on Saturday morning and the Pizza Tour that afternoon. My father is Sicilian-American and we have traveled many times to Italy as well as to Sicily to visit our relatives but knew nothing about San Diego’s Little Italy. We had a fabulous time with our guide Anthony. Each tour was totally unique. We began our Neighborhood Tour with a typical Italian breakfast-pastry and a cappuccino which were both definitely authentic and delicious. We were then kept totally fascinated as we walked around the neighborhood learning about the people who made it their home and how they lived. Anthony is knowledgeable and it is so obvious he loves this neighborhood. The Pizza Tour included the evolution of pizza from ancient times when yeast did not exist to the present day. Again, Anthony kept us spell-bound as we ate our way around Little Italy’s restaurants listening to him explain the history of how pizza became one Italy’s most recognized symbols of its cuisine. We had more than plenty to eat and Anthony even walked my father back to our meeting point while I went to get the car. We started out as strangers but Anthony made us feel like part of Little Italy’s family. We even returned the night before we left for home to enjoy dinner at one of the restaurants of a gentlemen Anthony introduced us to while on the tour. We highly recommend Little Italy Food Tours and Anthony if you want a guaranteed wonderful time with authentic Italian food.

This tour, and Anthony, earned rave reviews from our group! We were a mixed bunch, ranging in age from 16 to 70 and every single one of us loved the walk. All of us are locals to the San Diego area (49 out of my 50 years!) and we all learned something new. It was fascinating to learn more about the history of Little Italy and the surrounding Italian community. Whether you are a local or a visitor, this tour is a must do in San Diego. And how can you go wrong with an outstanding, friendly tour guide, awesome Filippi's Eggplant pizza, cold Peroni, and yummy gelato? Just book it! You won't be disappointed!

We had a law firm retreat in San Diego and i selected the Little Italy Tours for our group activity. Anthony was so easy to deal with and he was extremely accommodating with all of the food issues and allergies for 20 people. The restaurants we went to were all ready for us when we arrived and the food & drinks were exceptional. Definitely a lot of food and everyone was making their lists as to which restaurants to return to. We actually stayed by the Gaslamp District and easily took the trolIey to the meeting place in Little Italy. I HIGHLY recommend this tour for individuals, foodies and groups. All 20 of my attendees absolutely LOVED IT!

What a fun food tour! Our family has visited Little Italy many times, but we've never eaten so well or enjoyed ourselves so much. We took the Old School Little Italy Food Tour, guided by Anthony, who made us feel as welcome as family. He took us to five restaurants, where we were treated like special guests and where we received more wonderful food than we could possibly eat. Everything was delicious, and we especially enjoyed Anthony's great story-telling and his kind consideration of our pre-teen kids; he went out of his way to make sure they were happy. Highly recommend for tourists and locals alike!
