I didn't plan to do this, but I had an extra hour in Old Town and just walked in. Admission was free, but donations are welcome! It was just a small museum with stagecoaches and stories about the wild west. It wouldn't have been something I thought I would have liked but it was just the perfect touch, beautifully presented.... This is not one of your up front, dynamic museums. It is on the site of the original stables of a transportation company set up in the 1850s. A lot of the exhibits are apparently quite rare:an old ox drawn carreta (small freight wagon) from the Spanish period, bigger freight wagons and the usual stagecoach. There are photos of mule... A very interesting free museum in Old San Diego. Very informative with quite a bit to see all kind of wagons, coaches and means of transportation from the 19th century. I also really liked the saddles etc exhibits on the 2nd floor.

We stayed right next door at the Cosmopolitan Hotel and Restaurant ( both excellent , by the way ) so there was a real connection between them. We found the entire Old Town area fascinating and seeing some of the actual wagons and coaches used during the period as well as some other period pieces made the time pass quickly.... More

Out of an otherwise disappointing visit to Old Town San Diego, the Seeley Stables held by far the most interest for me. The first floor has numerous examples of 19th century stagecoaches and wagons, with good descriptions, and sufficient lighting to get some cool photos. Upstairs has displays of tack, clothing, everyday artifacts and other stable-related items. If you go... More

We were lucky to see the blacksmith teaching his apprentice how to work and test iron products. He was eager to answer questions and it was apparent he took pride in his work. The donkeys were eating and the children loved watching them. The interior exhibit is well done with plenty of information explaining the restoration and stories about the... More

What first greets you when you enter this Old Town museum is a nice collection of stagecoaches, buggies, and wagons that will delight the person interested in 19th century western transportation. In particular, Old Town may be one of the few places in the world that has two of the top-line Concord stagecoaches, counting the one on display here and... More
