Easy, scenic hike!

Had heard about this hike & the only reason I had hesitated to go on it before was I feared it would be too steep on the way back up. It wasn’t! It was a relatively easy and a short round- trip hike (less than an hour). Pretty views! Lots of air traffic from North Island as well as boats and ships in the passage. Go early before it gets hot!

Best kept secret trail in San Diego
Jul 2016 • Family
What a beauty of a trail wrapping along the cliffs below the Cabrillo Monument area. This is a quick 2mile round trip out and back hiking trail that's very well kept!

Its accessed via a service road left of the lighthouse (up on the hill) when walking up from visitors parking lot. Although Cabrillo Monument is highly touristy, this trail is overlooked which is a good thing for hikers since it offers a nice quiet walk with minimal to no people traffic.

Upon walking downhill on the asphalt service road, you will see the trailhead after the 2nd wraparound. It is a packed gravel trail thats safe enough to walk down. Still be cautious since one side of trail is edge of cliff! This trail offers the best and ONLY one of a kind sweeping view of Coronado Island, the downtown city of San Diego, SD Bay and jetty entrance. You'll manage to watch ships whether military, Cruise, or small boats passby as you sit on a number of scattered wood benches along this short distanced trail. There's also couple of historical structures and signs about nature plenty along trail.

There's a sign at end of trail to notify you're at the end and therefore head back out. You will need to walk uphill rest of the way back, but it is a forgiving gradual incline with no boulders or rocks to leap across.

Be forewarned: there's no shade shelter on the trail other than the cliffsides. Therefore during afternoons it helps to have sunscreen and a water bottle handy.

I love this trail since its a quick jog. But it feels bit secluded away from tourists traffic and the views are spectacular of the "Finest City in America"!

Cool place!
The weather is San Diego is just perfect. Sunny during the day, and comfortably cool at night. This place showcased what San Diego life is really like, according to some websites, and if it's true, I want to live in San Diego.
