My friends and I, all first timers, visited Escape Era to play our first-ever escape rooms yesterday. Overall, the experience was great: the room was interesting, the staff was very welcoming, and we managed to escape!

We did the Deja Vu room and our group of 4 managed to solve it in ~50 minutes. There are a lot of fun surprises throughout; I would definitely say that this room is good for people of all skillsets and experiences.

Michael, the member helping us, was awesome throughout. He made us feel very comfortable (as first-timers) and helped create a sense of mystery around the experience. I should also note that unlimited hints are offered, so every effort is made to ensure that you will escape!

Our team at work went to Escape Era. We had no idea what to expect and we truthfully had several skeptical people in the group... BUT every single one of us had fun and thought the experience was a great one. We highly recommend it. Don't be fooled by its appearance: it's in a business area, on the third floor of a business building. When you go in, the meeting area is underwhelming, but the experience with the staff person and the room were great. Once again, highly recommend.

We had a really good time doing Deja Vu. The puzzles were just the right level of challenging for us, whenever I started thinking we needed a hint we would get a breakthrough. There were just two of us, so the somewhat linear layout of the puzzle worked great for us. Michael was an excellent host, and we will be coming back to do the Arcade in the future.

The staff was very inexperienced and when we asked for clues it took a while to respond. Also, the clues were very unclear unfortunately. One of the steps malfunctioned, which we tried to explain but they insisted it worked until it was finally acknowledged after it was over. This made the experience really disappointing.

The escape room was fun, interesting and clean. My gripe is that the Game Master made clear that she was bored out of her mind. She didn't smile once. I had a birthday group of 11 year old girls and it would have been nice to finish the Escape Room. The Game Master could have given stronger clues that would have allowed that to happen but she didn't. When I suggested afterwards that one tiny flashlight for 10 people and just 3 tiny squares of paper with a light orange pen to write with made things even more challenging, I got a blank stare. When I more clearly suggested that for kids, they could make things easier but still challenging with more flashlights, pens and paper, the Game Master sullenly said that the room is designed a certain way. She had no interest in feedback. Negative points for customer service.

My kids wanted to try an escape room so I signed them to for the Deja Vu escape room experience. They enjoyed it immensely although did not escape within the hour. The venue says that up to 8 people can play but my kids said the rooms were pretty small so 3-5 felt best to them. It was pretty difficult but not excessively so. It’s a good option for teenagers, adults or a family.

I been to many escape games in the world, and this is one of the best for sure. They cover lot of details and the game is very creative. The host is very experienced as well, and they just guided you in the right amount to make sure you can make it while it's still challenging. It is for sure a must try for both beginners and advanced players!

This was our second escape room we'd ever done (and failed!) We did the 60 minute Déjà Vu escape room with the regular challenge level as I'd read on a local blog that it was a beginning level. I would not agree with that!

When you arrive you are given instructions on how to play and the rules. You can use the restroom down the hall (you need a code) and place your belongings in a locker.

PROS:

Located in a building with ample free parking, at least when we were there on a weekend. They're located on the third floor of a building in a business park in Sorrento Valley. You can use the elevator or the stairs.

Easy to book on-line.

We were able to do the escape room with just the two of us -- no having to play with a big group or strangers. Along with the location, that's why I picked this escape room.

Unlimited 'hints'.

Complimentary water with check-in.

Fun, unique and challenging.

CONS:

Expensive. I feel like the cost should be more like $20 each, not $35 each. It makes for a very expensive hour for a couple.

I'm sorry, but we didn't find the host Silvina very inspiring. I was expecting someone a little more perky and passionate.

Very hard. We probably asked for around 10 hints during the course of the escape process and still didn't get out. Once the rest of the escape room was revealed to us after the time was up, we estimated it would have taken us another half hour.

I've played 25+ escape rooms (and am also an owner of an escape room, Clue Avenue), and this easily ranks up there as one of the very best, and is my personal favorite (if we don't count my own! :-)

First off, I've done about 12 rooms. But there were So many great surprises from this escape room! At the climax of the experience our group literally awed in surprise. There were a lot of rewarding great moments, & they were able to put a personal touch that I had not seen in any room before. Great experience!
