About
Public and private 3 hour sails aboard Stars & Stripes USA-11, the authentic America's Cup racing yacht sailed by Dennis Conner in 1992. Take the helm, grind the winches, or just hang on as we zip around San Diego Bay at twice the speed of the average sailboat. A truly unique and memorable experience. Soft drinks and water are included. A crew member will be taking complimentary photos & videos of all the action on board as well as the sights of San Diego Bay. After the sail, complimentary refreshments are served while viewing the days activities on our flat screen TV. The photos & videos will then be posted on Google Web Albums for free access and use. The total cost (no additional taxes or fees) of $125 for adults & $75 for children (5-18) is the best value and most exciting venue on San Diego Bay. Private charters available for as little as $1,500. Located at the Kona Kai Resort & Marina with free street parking and complimentary valet service.

What a fun time! This is a wonderful way to spend half a day in San Diego. We enjoyed a brief informational presentation about the America’s Cup and about ship building- specifically how remarkably built is this vessel! We boarded and had a wonderful three hour sailing adventure. The crew was friendly, competent, and knowledgeable about the boat and San Diego. Everyone got to help raise the sails and steer the boat. There were enough deckhands that we felt like we were on a private trip because they spoke with us the entire time. I highly recommend this trip for anyone- young and old. You will have a great time!

We had a wonderful day on Stars and Stripes. The owners, crew, and the skipper were terrific. Non sailors and experienced sailors all seemed to a have a great time. From taking the helm to working the grinders, it was a very active and interactive afternoon.

Thank you for taking the time to write a review! Stars & Stripes USA-11 is 78' long, eleven stories high and was designed & built to be raced right here in San Diego. We feel fortunate to be able to share the hands on experience with guests like you! Hope to see you again soon. Lynn Hanna

The number of 5-star reviews for this business speaks for itself. Not only is it twice as fast and exciting as other sailboats, but you get to see a lot more along the way. The crew is great and you can really tell they love what they do. Everyone on board seemed to have a great time.

We sailed on the Il Moro (75 ft) with a group of 10 other travelers. What a blast. Imagine being the fastest sail boat on a beautiful Saturday afternoon in San Diego Harbor. 3 US Navy Nuclear carriers in port, dozens of boats on the water, a fresh breeze - 3 hours of heaven! The crew (almost all volunteers who love sailing) were helpful and informative. The guests manned various stations on the boat and no one came away disappointed. If you are in San Diego and have the time - DO THIS! You will create the memory of a lifetime!

Water -- the bay and its port -- these are central to the life of San Diego. It's the reason the city exists and the basis of its original economy. So how could any visit to San Diego be complete without getting out onto the water? And there's no better way of doing so than on board the Stars & Stripes USA-11. This is not a conventional commercial attraction. The crew are all volunteers. You're not going to be charged for incidentals. In fact the trip as a whole costs far less than it's worth. Throughout our day on the bay, I never felt as though I was just a paying passenger. Instead, the impression is that we've been invited as guests by a bunch of experienced sailing fanatics who just need to get enough people together to make it worthwhile to take the boat out for a day. And we're just being asked to share the expenses. That's not just an impression. I think it comes close to the truth of this excellent, invigorating, thrilling, educational and purely pleasurable service. Don't miss it.

We LOVED the afternoon we spent on Stars and Stripes! Lynn and Bee were wonderful, as were Rob, Natalie and the rest of the crew. We had a blast sailing and talking with both the crew and the other passengers. We got to see sea lions napping on channel buoys; dolphins and a Navy SEAL team in action. Everyone got to sail, and we got to grind the winches too.

Lots of pictures and videos were taken and after the sail we got to relax and view an often humorous slideshow. And the pictures are posted to Picasa for us to use as we wish, for free! We went on the Midway earlier in the week, and they wanted $20 for a corny 4X6. Much better deal I'd say :)

It was an awesome time, and well worth the money. If you can get on one of Lynn's cruises, you won't regret it!!

We can't wait to go back!!

This is a great way to see San Diego's Big Bay and have fun doing it. Don't worry that you are going to get thrashed around and seasick unless it is a super, super, SUPER windy day and there are huge white caps all over the bay. Even then this boat is so well designed and smooth I doubt even then you would get sick. But then that could be fun too ;-) With that being said you do not want to go out on a dead calm day either because you will miss the whole fun of sailing with the sails up.

The regular large boat bay cruises I have been on are fun but I think this one is the BEST.

They tack back and forth across the bay so you REALLY get to see much more of the bay then if you just past by something once which is what happens on the bay cruises.

In addition you will get a chance to steer the boat and take a turn at the cranks for bringing the sails up and tacking so you get to experience a bit of what is was like to race this boat.

The crew is super nice and the 3 hours seems to go by way too fast.

So if you are from out of town or even a local I highly recommend this trip.

And as long as you are down on Shelter Island there are several restaurants that have great views after your sail like the Bali Hai or Coastterra or if it is a nice day reserve an outside table at the Kona Kai's Vessel's restaurant and get a nice view of your boat and the Kona Kai marina while you dine. And don't forget to save time to walk beautiful Shelter Island.

Tip- Make sure to get there early to watch the video presentation that takes place 30 minutes BEFORE the sail. Even if you think you know everything about sailing and the America's Cup it is very interesting and makes the sail that much more fun.

Also the crew is 90% volunteer so if you enjoyed your sail I am sure they would appreciate a tip which you can drop in the jar after the sail which is located in the office

And no need for a cell phone or camera that you could lose overboard because they will take all the pictures and send them to your email address for no extra charge!

My family is diverse relative to sailing. The laid back Mom, the experienced sailor Dad, the son who wants to go a million miles careening over a giant wave, and the son who is a little nervous about sailing and going fast. Yet, everyone had a blast in this once-in-a-lifetime experience cruising on this incredible racing boat. The staff and crew provided informative history of the boat, answered all of our questions, and were superior with the kids on board. Everyone gets to steer the massive boat (which the kids said was "amazing") and help tack the sails. They took all the photos for you, provided snacks and drinks, and did just about anything you can think of to make the experience as exceptional as possible. This was a great introduction to advanced sailing for my crew and a chance for me to experience the pinnacle of sailing myself!

Great experience. Used to watch the Cup race occasionally but now we'll be true fans of this great sport. Crew and owner's could not have been more friendly and informative. Highly recommend this trip. Best part of our 4 day visit to San Diego.
