Founded in 1916, the Zoo has been an icon in San Diego for nearly 100 years—and an absolute must-see in Southern California. Spend the day monkeying around in our tropical oasis as you visit beautiful habitats that are home to gorillas, eagles, tigers, sun bears, Asian leopards, rare reptiles, a palette of colorful birds, and more. Visit the Australian Outback to delight in our colony of 24 koalas, and travel along Panda Trek to experience giant pandas and other animals that share their bamboo forest habitat. Go back in time through Elephant Odyssey to discover what animals used to roam Southern California and see what the elephants are up to. Enjoy a guided tour on a double-decker bus or the scenic view from the Skyfari aerial tram, and dine in the peaceful surroundings of Albert's Restaurant. Discover the wonders of wildlife with animal encounters, interactive experiences, and keeper chats. A leader in animal care and conservation, the San Diego Zoo is at the heart of the San Diego experience.

My family including two kids ages 12 and 14 walked the entire zoo. Would be hard for a small child and I could hear some of them getting cranky but take your time and enjoy all the different animals. We like the enormous hippo and hippo baby swimming and coming to the top of the water. You can watch them... More

We spent 9 hours at the zoo and could have spent more if I hadn't driven 6 hours before opening to get there! Very nice experience for my daughter, 9 year old niece and myself. Lots to see and the animals are very close. The polar bears were incredible as were the Pandas. Loved the zoo volunteers who were near... More

I had heard of the world renowned zoo for many years and always wanted to go. I could tell that they put a lot of money, time and effort into the exhibits but in the end, the animals are still captive and miserable. If they weren't asleep they were just sitting there looking as miserable as you can imagine. I... More

San Diego Zoo The world famous San Diego Zoo is a must on everyone’s list. It is located within the confines of Balboa Park and stretches for over 100 acres. You could write a book to detail everything it offers but allow a couple of days to truly get a true feel of all the exhibits. It features natural habitats... More

The best zoo we have ever visited. To see Giant Panda,s, Kangaroos, Koala bears, Polar bears and Hippos so close was awesome,( as my 13 year old who is nuts about animals described it). The zoo is very well kept, very hilly but we are fine with that as it makes it that bit more interesting. I did think some... More

We visited San Diego zoo with friends who live nearby, the fact they purchase annual passes to this superb animal park says it all. The zoo has the best selection of animals we have ever seen in habitats that closely replicate a natural environment and each enclosure has knowledgeable staff on hand to answer any questions you may want to... by far the best zoo for all ages. My children (7-16) all had a wonderful time as well as my wife and I. Such a clean park and the animals are well kept and beautiful in their habitats. Very educational as well.

We enjoyed our visit to the well planned and laid out zoo in San Diego. The attention given to the environment the animals are housed in seemed to have a positive impact on the animals, unlike some zoos you visit. You'll definitely need to make a day of it to see it all though!
