If you're expecting the Art Institute in Chicago, you'll be disappointed. But if you're expecting what most folks expect from Kansas you will be thrilled. Washburn has a good base collection and knowledgeable staff. The city of Topeka has a relatively big art community so we see some nice local exhibits from time to time as well as traveling exhibits.... More

Washburn University has done an exceptional job of turning their campus into a 21st century work of art. Mulvane Art Museum is one of Washburn's masterpieces. In addition to the exhibits in the museum, there is some exceptional art around campus.

This museum has been around for a few years. It has a good basic collection and it is a good educational experience. Many of the experienced art staff contribute and write background for the art. It is a gem for Topeka and for Washburn University . They have a significant support base in the City and they deserve it. If... More

We really enjoy taking out grandchildren to see the art exhibits and to their youth art labs. The children have a great time with the numerous activities in the art lab.

I travel all over in search of Art o Mats and this was no exception. Not the best looking machine, but full of great art. For the uninitiated, Art O Mats are cigarette machines that have been converted to dispense art the size of a pack of cigarettes for $5 each. You buy tokens in the gift shop. We also... More

Enjoyed this museum situated on the campus of the Washburn University. The lower level rooms were featuring an industrial photography exhibit (quite breathtaking), and a sketch artist that depicted the plight (and some folly) of an elderly couple. The gift shop offered many local artisans as well.

Loved the children's activity center in the basement. I enjoyed it as much as the kids and joined in on the projects.

Free admission! This museum not only has exhibits that are interesting for kids and grownups alike, it also trusts you not to touch the art. It's rare to find a museum that doesn't either lock everything up so you can't get near it or watch you as if you were a saboteur! I love that they try to engage the... More
