- Martha PNorth Liberty, Iowa38 contributionsEnjoyableMy husband is a huge Elvis fan. Always travel to Graceland and then to birthplace. Enjoyable to read and see the history of Elvis life. Very affordable. Nice upgrade to the outside and loved the church service.Visited November 2022Traveled with familyWritten October 4, 2023
- cgray1962Austin, Texas117 contributionsWorth a visitVery nice little area with his childhood home, church and small museum with lovely outdoor area nicely landscaped. I recommend this over the overpriced Graceland anyway. Really enjoyed it. The church video was a little long but other than that, really nice.Visited September 2023Traveled as a coupleWritten October 14, 2023
- EMSJBath, United Kingdom597 contributionsA Definite must for any Elvis fan.Having been to Graceland a few years ago this was a must visit. We actually went out off are way to stay the one night in Tupelo so I could visit Elvis place of birth. I wasn’t disappointed and surprisingly even my husband enjoyed it unlike Graceland, which he thought was very tacky. There is an entrance charge which in all fairness is not that much especially as the fee goes towards helping the community, but if you don’t want to go into the chapel or his birthday home it’s all free to walk around. There is a nice little gift shop that has some nice things. Unfortunately for some reason the cafe was closed the day we went. Elvis music is pipped everywhere even the toilets :-)).Visited September 2023Traveled as a coupleWritten October 16, 2023
- 8reynolds854 contributionsHistorical AweWe did an Elvis from Birth to Death pilgrimage, and this is where we began. Elvis began in this 300 sq ft home and ended in the 17,552 sq ft Graceland home. A true rags to riches story! The staff was very sweet, and the southern belle who hosted us for the church presentation was just absolutely precious.Visited October 2023Traveled with familyWritten October 22, 2023
- ole-wdSt. Pete Beach, Florida95 contributionsVery informative. We found out many facts about Elvis's childhood that we did not know.Elvis birth place and home has been restored to as close as possible to original. The docent was well informed and engaging. The grounds were well kept. In the museum you see many documents about the time a young boy grew up, very poor, and moved on to become one of the greatest entertainers in history. Lots of positive testimonials from locals who knew Elvis as a child. The recreation of a 1950 church service in the original church Elvis and family attended was well done. The docent helped make the 15 minute video "interactive" with the audience joining in the singing and claping in a pentecostal church service.Visited November 2023Traveled as a coupleWritten November 14, 2023

We did not pay to go inside any of the buildings or the museum but we did enjoy getting to see what we saw. Was worth the stop; pretty cool!Visited July 2023Traveled as a coupleWritten November 19, 2023
- SimplesoulsNorfolk, United Kingdom228 contributionsPeaceful and respectfulThis is where it all began, and although much of it is a reconstruction, it is very well done indeed. There is no pressure or hard sell, and you easily understand what a poor background Elvis came from. A visit to the small church is an absolute must.Visited December 2022Traveled as a coupleWritten November 26, 2023
- beachbobe61 contributionsWorth the visit!Definitely worth a visit if you are in the area. Interesting tour of VERY small home Elvis started in and a short presentation/talk in the church he attended on the grounds. Best part was my tour guide Ramona who went out of her way to greet us and answer all of our questions - including where I should have dinner that night (She called her friend to help out - who does that anymore!!!!??) Small museum is also on the grounds with interesting facts and possessions of Elvis.Visited December 2023Traveled soloWritten December 17, 2023
- Allen and WandaJasper, Alabama355 contributionsWednesday Morning at the Elvis HouseActually we parked at the nearby Veterans Memorial Park and walked 1/4 mile to the childhood home of Elvis. Our route is part of a 3- mile walking path and passes by the house. One can purchase a ticket or, as we did, walk the grounds for free. We observed the house, an Elvis statue, several plaques, a chapel, vintage Plymouth, and an outhouse.Visited March 2024Traveled as a coupleWritten March 13, 2024
- Robert HLynchburg, Virginia452 contributionsElvis Tupelo side tripYou can tour the Elvis Presley birthplace house and his first church in Tupelo. On our visit at 12 p.m., the church had a speaker and movie presentation what a church service would have been like during Elvis childhood. The visit also includes a small museum and movie as well as a gift shop. Walking paths to several statues of Elvis are on the property. Free parking and $20 admission fee ($15 for senior citizens).Visited April 2024Traveled with familyWritten April 6, 2024

We were looking for something to do in northern Mississippi, and this fit the bill. Graceland is too expensive for us (not being hardcore Elvis fans), so this allowed us to get a taste of the American experience that is Elvis. The museum is quick and understated, and focuses mainly on his life growing up. We did not pay to go into his birth house, which is fine since it is a tiny two-room shack and viewing it from the outside more or less makes the point that he grew up poor. It was nice to walk around the grounds and see the shrine and memorial that has been made for a real icon f American music. Bonus points for a great gift shop.

This museum is well worth the stop. It contains many exhibits and stories of how the King of Rock and Roll raised himself from poor/humble beginnings to super stardom. The guides who populate the Museum are passionate about their favorite son and really add meat to the bone to give visitors a full historical experience. We combined this stop into our travel itinerary after visiting Graceland in Memphis TN so it really made the Elvis Experience complete. Highly recommended!!

My wife's son recommended we stop here and he met us there. He knew of it, but had not been there himself. Elvis' birth house is a two room house. You go in one side and out the other. The museum is quite small and cluttered. The cost for both is $15.00/person. For what there is, this is very steep. I was fortunate in that I was wearing my my USAF Retired hat. This dropped the cost to $10.00 for the entire group and, had I been currently active duty, it would have free. The grounds were actually more interesting than either the house or the museum. The church and chapel were both closed for renovation which made the normal cost even worse. If you are an Elvis maniac, ok but otherwise, forget it.

I had high expectations for our visit but left a bit disappointed. We had paid for the three attractions - museum, birthplace and chapel. The museum was great and very informative but was sorry we paid extra for the other two. We made the mistake of watching the film in the museum so the chapel had closed by the time we got there. The birthplace was less than a minute walk-through so definitely not worth the extra money. The grounds look beautiful but are not very handicap accessible so we were unable to walk up the hill to see the Becoming statue we had heard about. Best advice - skip the birthplace and chapel, enjoy the museum and the grounds is you are able.

If you are an Elvis fan this is a must do, if you’re not really a fan don’t waste time going here. I am a fan and my family arrived early on a Sunday afternoon. I think it cost around $60 for 3 to tour the museum, house, and church. We started out in the museum which was actually quite small and a little disappointing considering it was an Elvis museum. There were no pics allowed in the museum but there were several displays in the hallway leading up to a theater you could take pics of. You could spend $1.50 on a book that gave you info on everything and the same map you can get off the website. We bought the book because the money goes to the museum and exhibits. Leaving the museum we walked to the small 2 room house. We were told the house is in its original location and is the actual house but furnishings are not from Presley family but instead donations. It was interesting to see how small the house was and listen to the guide talk about how they would have lived then. Once we left the house we walked to the church that was the church Elvis attended and moved to this site. The rest of the grounds had several statues and a ton of info about the time Elvis spent in Tupelo. If you’re wanting to see the superstar Elvis go to Graceland but if you want to see how the superstar came to be the info is here. You can tour the grounds free but spend the money and take it all in.

We stopped on the east side of Tupelo to walk the free 15 acre property devoted to the early history of Elvis (passing on the $9 each museum and $9 each house and church tour). The church was closed.
The two room house, built by his father and grandfather for $180, was lost for lack of payment, demonstrating the hard times in the Depression. His family moved several times in the 13 years they lived in Mississippi.
The property is lovely on a sunny day to see: “Elvis at 13”, climb to his "Becoming" caped statue at the rear, then descend to the beautiful pond.

Great place for afficionados. The birthplace of Elvis, thé church of his first public singing and a small museum. The person in the house was full of anecdotes. The church has an audio visual component that is very well done. Thé restaurant of the grounds allow for a nice walk.

The grounds are so nice. Well maintained and beautiful to walk around. His birth home is small, just two rooms and the furnishings are not authentic to the family but still - what a humble beginning. The museum itself is well organized and easy to walk from one exhibit to the next. Well written details of his life and the lives of his parents. My husband tells me he came away with a much greater understanding of Elvis as a person - How his music was a reflection of the Various influences of his community. He was musically grounded in gospel, country and blues which enabled him to popularize early rock and roll. Hail Elvis!

This was a good place to stop and stretch our legs when traveling. We did not pay to actually go into the buildings, but I don’t feel it’s necessary unless you are a huge Elvis fan or something. We were perfectly content seeing the outside of the buildings, reading the plaques, seeing the statues, taking photos, and wandering the garden areas. The grounds are beautiful and well maintained. The gift shop is cute with unique items and clean bathrooms.

We got stranded midway on a cross country trip and had 5 days to kill while we waited for a new transmission. Luckily my teenage son knows who Elvis is, so he was up for the trip. (Yay!) I was impressed by how interesting it was for him. He enjoyed reading all the anecdotal childhood stories, as did I. We made it a mission to not miss any. He was a also happy to discover he was taller than Elvis was at his age. We hiked up to the Beloved statue, a local who was enjoying the lookout view, told us that people enjoy seeing the sunset from that sitting area. We didn't stay long enough to see it, but I'm sure it's beautiful. It was clean, well kept and the ladies that worked there were very nice, helpful and knowledgeable. We both really enjoyed it!

A small group of us will be in and around this area next month, do we need to pre book tickets or just turn up on the day?
Written May 7, 2023
I wouldn't think you would need to call ahead, especially if it is on a weekday. It is a large site with many different areas to see. The church service is on a schedule but they do this a few times a day so it shouldn't be an issue. Enjoy your visit!

There are some steps in the Graceland mansion and the 2 planes. The rest is flat and you go at your own pace. Take as much time as you like, hope you enjoy it

What does it cost to see his birthplace home, chapel, and museum?
I am not a robot.

What all can we see by just walking around the grounds and not going in the museum? Can we still see the statues?
Written March 17, 2022
Hello, yes you can walk around and see the statues and car . The Church, House and Museum have a charge. They do offer a military discount. If you are an Elvis fan I think it is something worth seeing. Enjoy

We will be coming through Tupelo on a Sunday morning, leaving before the museum opens at 1:00. I'm wondering if the grounds are still accessible when the museum is closed. Thanks!

You can take the bus tour to Tupelo from the Inn at Graceland. It is $99.00 for adults. I loved it!

I drove 12 1/2 hours to visit The Elvis Presley Birthplace. Three of us purchased a $18 ticket to visit the museum, church and chapel. We were rudely interrupted several times and asked to leave. I was in the museum watching a short video on his influences and was told they were closing in 15 minutes. It was 2:30 and they close at 5:00. I was reading a poem when they turned the lights off. I couldn’t understand why. They said it was because of the weather. It was drizzling rain but that couldn’t be why but it was. Pure rudeness asking us to leave. They had our &54 and through us to the curb. So much for southern hospitality.
Written November 14, 2018
This happened to us, too. They were an hour from closing and wouldn't let us into the museum because they were closing! My guests were from England and they finally agreed to let them in and look around, but they weren't happy about it. Ridiculous!
