Just walking through the doors and seeing all of the old wood and glass counters was incredible! The spot marked on the floor that young Elvis stood as his mother purchased the guitar that started it all was humbling. You feel rather transported even among all of the modern gadgets and items for sale. The Gentlemen working the counter were sweet and personable and helped us find the murals we were looking for as well. The downtown area is very quaint and charming.

As an Elvis fan we stopped in not expecting what we left with. Wish I would have caught the gentleman's name. He saw me taking photos and could easily see o was there to see the spot Elvis got his guitar. This nice man shared his knowledge and history of Elvis and the store. So glad we got to talk to him. The way he told the story it was easy to put yourself as an observer of that day Elvis left with his guitar.

Went in to just see if they had any info about Elvis receiving his 1st guitar there. Was greeted by an older gentleman who was more than happy to share stories about it. They have a letter from Mr Bobo who worked there on that very day and remembered it exactly. The counter where Elvis actually stood is still there. The exact spot marked by an x on the floor. Everything in the hardware store is exactly as it was back when Elvis & his mom went there. 4 generations of the same family haven owned the business & still do to this day and they want to always keep it original.

The sweet gentleman at the counter gave a lot of information, let’s you take as many pictures as you wish and even tells you other places to visit in the area.

They do have a few baseball caps & tiny souvenirs, but they never make you feel like you have to buy anything. All history & info is free. Of course I did purchase a few things however. Thank you Tupelo hardware for being true southern hospitality

We arrived to check out this "icon" of the days of ma & pa hardware before 5 understanding they were closing at 530 when stopping in Tupelo, MS on vacation. My family used to own and operate such a store, so it meant something special to me. We walked up at 4:57 and they were locking the door behind them. Despite the sign on the door clearly showing their hours of operation from 7 till 530. We were informed that was pre-pandemic. I could only reminisce by looking in their windows. It appears to be a big place. Maybe another time. I wonder if they still sell guitars to young boys and their parents?

Stopped into see the famous X on the floor where Elvis received his guitar. The lady working behind the counter was very knowledgeable and friendly. This was a great hardware store with a vast selection and reasonable prices. I prefer this to Lowe’s or Walmart any day! They still sell guitars in the side room of the store! An enjoyable stop steeped in history!

A marvellous step back in time – this store is almost a capsule for a bygone age! There can’t be many traditional stores remaining like this which is a shame. Their biggest claim to fame is that this is the actual store Elvis Presley’s mother bought him that original guitar that started his eventual rise to fame (you can still buy guitars here too!). We were given a lovely talk by Howard Hite, an obvious Elvis fan with a passion for his subject, as we all crowded the actual spot (marked with an X) that Elvis and Gladys stood while buying that famous object.

Only two miles from the birthplace and a definite must visit if you’re in the area!

This was a must see while in Tupelo. The staff was so friendly and willing to talk at length and tell stories about their encounters and knowledge of Elvis. We spent as much time in this store as we did at the birthplace. Original flooring has the X to mark the spot the King stood. The even took our pic behind the counter!! If you go to Tupelo you cannot miss stopping in here.

We had visited Gracelands last year as part of our roap trip and loved it, this year we incorporated Tupelo into our itinerary so we could visit a few more Elvis related themes.
We entered the store thinking no one would pay any attention to us, how wrong we were!
A lovely gentleman named Howard called over to us he would be with us in a few minutes, he was busy taking a photo of a couple who were stood behind the counter where Elvis was bought his first guitar by his mother, Gladys.
This is an amazing store, we browsed whilst waiting on Howard and could not believe the size of the place
Howard came over and introduced himself to us, he then very kindly told us the story about when Gladys brought Elvis in to the store, originally he was there to buy a bicycle, but when he got inside the store he seen a rifle, but his mother said he could not have the rifle but he could have a guitar, she made a deal that if he learnt to play the guitar then she would buy him the rifle later , the rest is history...good job he did not pick the bike !!!! . you will enjoy talking with Howard, Elvis fans are called "his people" by the people he works alongside. He has a few intersting stories of some famous people he has met over the years, including Prince Albert of Monaco, and Aerosmith!
This was a highlight of our visit to Tupelo, it was great to stand on the X where Elvis stood, quite exciting to think this is where it all started!
We came, we seen, we got the t/shirt to prove it, yes actually we bought a t shirt!
There is a park across the road from the store, on the other side of the rail track where there is a statue, whhere you can touch the hand of Elvis, just ask Howard for directions.

We came to this little store after visiting where Elvis was born and spent the 1st few years of his life. This store is wonderful, suspended in time and selling every little nick nack you can imagine. They appreciate their connection with the King of Rock n roll and still have the original cabinet where the guitar he bought wass stored, they have also 'X marks the spot' where he had his mother would have stood. We spoke to a wonderful man (whose name I regret not getting) who told us his own personal stories of seeing Elvis perform, gave us all goosebumps istening to hm. They allow you to take photographs and are very polite, considerate and LOVE the English. Another little piece of Elvis history not to be missed if a true fan. Would recommend it and the little town of Tupelo is just perfect :)

I felt a warm feeling come over me, as I stood in the spot where rock and roll began!!! It was an honour!! I felt the presence of a little boy who would be king, as he was first introduced to what would become a legend!!! MANY thanks...Lynda and Eddie Miller
