About
This historic Boston market has been around since 1826, and today has over a hundred pushcarts, shops, restaurants, and food court stops. Across the three market buildings (Quincy Market, South Market and North Market), you can find interesting coffees, artisanal bread, fresh seafood and of course, the Boston favorites: lobster rolls, clam chowder and Boston cream pie. Learn more about its history on a free guided tour by the city, or along with other historic sites in Boston on a walking tour. Located along the Freedom Trail, make a stop on the way to the New England Aquarium, Beacon Hill, and the Museum of Fine Arts. – Tripadvisor

Neighborhood: Downtown
The largest area of the city, Downtown is rich with historical and iconic sites in Boston. Stroll through one of Boston’s most famous green spaces, the Boston Public Gardens, check out and make way for duckling statues, picnic under a beautiful tree overlooking the pond, and walk over the iconic footbridge where, during summer time, you will catch a swan boat toting children and eager tourists through the pond. Have your camera ready to capture its peaceful beauty in the middle of a bustling city. Continue on through the Gardens and take in some open green space at the Boston Common, where you can spend time throwing a frisbee, sitting on a park bench, or, in the winter time, skating on the frog pond. Head north from the end of the Common to see the golden dome of the State House, and travel through government center to Quincy Market and Faneuil Hall, both a historic and popular destination worth a quick visit for a first time to Boston. Head to Long Wharf to visit the Aquarium, or catch a boat to Charlestown or even Cape Cod.

Food is good and expensive but portions are just for the prices. It’s a historic place and you’re going to have fun so just go there.Visited September 2023Traveled soloWritten March 1, 2024
- Derrick AwSingapore, Singapore1,279 contributionsNice to come for lunch/brunchLots of food stalls here… I shouldn’t have lunched elsewhere before popping over! I saw many ‘walking tours’ coming over here. Lots of usual touristy foods like clam chowder, lobster rolls etc - look good and smell good. If you can’t find a seat in the middle seating section, try outside. There’s lots of benches and often live performances to entertain you while you eat too! Adjacent to the central row of food stalls, are a line of shop carts selling miscellaneous stuff - pity, not as many as I would have liked to see.Visited April 2024Traveled soloWritten April 21, 2024
- PeteFredericksburg, Virginia1,230 contributionsGood business intuitionFrom a business perspective, taking a group of historic sites and making them into an outdoor marketplace is a darn good idea. I’m sure most like the convenience of accomplishing two things at one time. In this case, it’s shopping and touring simultaneously. When the restaurants nearby are added into the mix, it’s even more of a win-win for everyone.Visited May 2024Traveled soloWritten May 3, 2024
- Kim CLa Crosse, Wisconsin890 contributionsSO MANY food options here...If you're looking for large portions, this is the place to go for lots of options. You won't believe the size of some of these sandwiches. Wow....probably enough for two or three people. It does get crowded, but you can sit outside. Or hit the off hours when there's less people eating and you'll still find lots of options available.Visited August 2024Traveled with familyWritten August 8, 2024
- Alexandra ArrivillagaNewton, Massachusetts598 contributions“ A must Visit “This is a must if you’re visiting Boston . You can shop , eat and get your history on while visiting Quincy Market ! We always have a great time doing these activities here . I would say travel light because there can be a bit of walking while being here ! Also dress appropriately for the weather . There is no parking guaranteed so if you can Uber or catch public transport. Otherwise you’ll have to pay for garage parking and it’s pricey !Visited August 2024Traveled with friendsWritten August 10, 2024
- bluenose on tourStourbridge, United Kingdom6 contributionsFood glorious food in BostonGreat choice of food , all very well presented. Make your choice of food from the long line of providers then find a place to sit and eat it. If it’s a nice day , sit outside , there are plenty of benches / seats available. It is nice because you do not all have to have the same thing. As a family we were able to have a choice of US dishes, Chinese, Italian, then meet up to eat it.Visited August 2024Traveled with familyWritten August 19, 2024
- Jennifer M72 contributionsGreat foodA great place to eat and experience Boston. I had been here 20 years ago, and I enjoyed it again now. There are many options to choose from for food, but it is pricey! However, all the foods I tried were super good. There are lots of shops around to find souvenirs from. A definite place to see if in Boston!Visited November 2023Traveled with friendsWritten August 27, 2024

- Grover RPensacola, Florida22,409 contributionsHistory, Food and VarietyComing right off the plane this was the first thing our group did in Boston to see and experience the city's history and get some lunch. This is a great place for a larger group because it provides a lot of variety in food choices but the chance to still eat together. Some had sandwiches, some pizza and I had fish. Everyone enjoyed plus it is just a fun, historical building to be in. In addition, there are plenty of dessert and souvenir shops around the edge, and they is even street entertainment outside. All of this within close proximity of the Freedom Trail at Faneuil Hall. It is the perfect lunch stop when you plan to visit Freedom Trail sights. The only negative I will say for it is there can be too much choice to overwhelm you. You really need to focus on what you want, or you can lose time with too many alternatives. Lastly and very important, when you group breaks to go get food, have one person in you party go secure a table upstairs in the dome or outside. If not, it could take you a while to get a place to sit.Visited September 2024Traveled as a coupleWritten September 11, 2024

You can walk through Quincy Market in about 20 minutes, but if you stop to eat or shop it could take longer. It can also take longer if you stop and watch the many street performers juggle things and play music. The cobblestone streets and old buildings (3 of them) are filled with shoppes, restaurants, and the middle one is a food court.
At the end you'll find another tourist stop called Faneuil Hall. When it's open you can go in for free and learn a bit of history about the place.

We visited Quincy Market a couple of times in the evenings and enjoyed pizza, burritos and Philly cheese steaks. The Quincy Market is located along the Freedom Trail and was within easy walking distance from the hotel we stayed in, the Boxer. Once you grab your food you can enjoy it in communal seating whilst the buskers play round you. The pricing at Quincy Market seemed in line with the other markets we ate at during our stay.

I had a few hours to kill whilst waiting to check in for a flight.
What a fabulous place, so many different smells and tastes that just tantalise the taste buds.
There is an array of shops that will please many (I hate shopping) and whilst I was there, there was a guy singing his heart out and really good and a couple of acrobatic guys entertaining (and jumping over) the crowd.
A great place to spend a few hours

I came to Quincy Market in 1988 & remembered it to be a great place to try lots of New England seafood. I visited there this week & was disappointed to see how expensive it’s become. There’s few seats & no tables, so plan to walk & eat. It is very crowded & many don’t wear masks.
It’s a good stop when visiting Faneuil Hall’s free 2nd floor “Cradle of Liberty” exhibit. The Salty Dog is my favorite place for food. It’s offers the same selection of seafood for the same prices & you get to sit down & enjoy!

Hard to really rate the experience. As long as you go in realizing this is a tourist trap and set your expectations appropriately then you can still have a great time in the area. Food is average. Prices and not cheap. Shops are the usual you would expect in the area. We were going to stop at Faneuil as well but it was closed on Tuesdays. We still stop in the area each time we are in Boston. We just can’t resist. Parking is a challenge especially on weekends and is expensive though we booked online at the 75 State Street Garage which was much cheaper than just driving in. They just send you a QR code to get in and out of the garage. Enjoy.

This is a must stop for me every time I go to Boston. If the food and shops weren’t already a great reason to go the street performance just enhance the experience that much more. Totally a must see place, every time.

I enjoyed walking around the Quincy Market and seeing all the food that was available. I definitely recommend coming on a weekday if you can because there weren’t a lot of people when I went. You can definitely spend 1-2 hours here looking at everything. The Colonnade within the market is by far one of the market’s greatest aspects. It’s basically a long hallway of food on top of food. Definitely come with an empty stomach so you can try all the food that is available. If you decide to come here, also check out the Faneuil Hall Marketplace because they are right next to each other.

Quincy Market is a foodies paradise…so many options to sample. I recommend starting your morning or elevensies with Bread O’Life (west end inside the main doors) their bagels are HEAVENLY, right amount of chew. I loved the Nova Lox on an everything bagel…wowza! My hubby loved the BLT on Asiago bagel. Lots of vendors and shops line both outer sides of the market. Faneuil Hall/market is directly next to it…it’s a win win. Really enjoyed the architecture of history meets modern, still amazing. Well worth a visit.

I will never visit Quincy Market again. It is noisy, crowded, and confusing. There are three other market areas surrounding and associated with it. There is food offered, but much better food at historic restaurants nearby. Cheap souvenir type vendors abound and you see the same merchandise over and over again. One or two street performers might be nice but there are way more and the music overlaps and competes making for a mess of noise. We came based on suggestions on YouTube, not worth the trip.

The building and the staff working there were great, however you will need deep pockets to eat not only here but anywhere in Boston. If sea food is your thing this is the place to go. The big downside for me was the toilets here, they are disgraceful for tourist to use and need improvements. Having said that the lack of public toilets in Boston is an absolute joke to any tourists visiting

Where do you catch a shuttle to go to Quincy Market from where Princess cruise line docks. And where do you catch a shuttle to go back to the cruise terminal. What is the cost and do you need cash. We are in our 70's and do like to walk but getting mixed reviews on whether it is doable or not. Thank you in advance.
Written March 25, 2024
Sorry this is kind of a late reply and likely won’t help you but maybe others. No shuttle. I walked it and took an Uber back. It’s nit too far and Id say plan ahead because I bought things and didn’t want to carry them back. Boston has bad traffic so always pad your time at least 30 minutes.

Quincy Market is the last stop on our “Easy Boston” bus tour arranged through Princess Cruises. We have the option of staying there for 15 minutes before bus returns us to the ship or we can stay longer on our own and catch a shuttle back or the pier. I have a niece who lives in South Boston and we would like to meet up in Quincy Market area. Anyone have ideas where a good meeting place would be since it will be on a Sunday and I’m sure it will be very crowded? Also anyone ever taken the shuttle back to the pier? Where to catch it?

Is it worth going to Quincy's Market?
Written September 21, 2016
Agree with others. Quincy Market is a "must do" when in Boston
Written September 24, 2016
It is about a 30 to 40 minute walk from the cruise terminal, we were there for two days and walked in and back the first day but shuttle buses were laid on for the second day. If you are fit it is not a difficult walk, being mostly on the flat. Walking in takes you past the Boston Tea Party experience and South Boston rail station. Its a beautiful city have a nice visit.
