- Alistair WHarnham, United Kingdom14 contributionsGood tour and tastingThis tour might be one of the highlights of my time in Boston. Brendan was a great host and gave knowledgeable insight to the world of beer-brewing, whilst making the tasting experience fun and a good laugh. Considering the tour only costs about $11 each, I’d say you get great value not only in beer drinking (you get to try 3) but also an enjoyable 45 minutes around the brewery. We also enjoyed a drink in the bar at the brewery, which seemed a cool place to chill out afterwards.Visited September 2023Traveled as a coupleWritten October 6, 2023
- JoLong Island, New York131 contributionsShort & informative tourOur guide Joel was funny and knowledgeable. We toured 3 rooms and had 3 different beer tastings. At the end of the tour we were given a small Samuel Adams glass cup. Definitely visit the Tap Room and get a flight of beers. 🍻Visited April 2024Traveled as a coupleWritten April 26, 2024
- tashad195Coventry, United Kingdom185 contributionsThe number 1 best thing we did on our trip to BostonWe were spending a few days in Boston and didn't know what to do with our evening. We came across the brewery on a quick internet search and thought we'd check it out. We did a tour and stayed afterwards for some drinks and musical bingo - it ended up being one of the best nights of our trip! It was a great time, awesome vibe and the prices were really reasonable.Visited March 2024Traveled as a coupleWritten May 5, 2024
- KabarJawMarion, Iowa29 contributionsHighlight of our trip to Boston! As someone who actually went to the brewery and didn’t get scared off by a piece of fabric, it was great! We took the basic tour and had a fantastic time! Plenty of beer, some of which you can’t get anywhere else! Awesome to see the research and development side of Samual Adams! The tour guide was great! Worth the drive!Visited May 2024Traveled with friendsWritten May 26, 2024
- Abigail A18 contributionsExcellent tour and time!We took an uber from downtown Boston out to the brewery and we were glad we did! We did the standard tour and it was a great one. There was a very healthy serving of beer during the tour! We even got to try some R&D beer:) We enjoyed getting a custom flight afterwards too.Visited June 2024Traveled with familyWritten July 11, 2024
- uhhwillCordova, Tennessee4 contributionsGood spot for a beer and a tourI went on the Sam Signature Experience Tour and Beyond the Brewhouse Tour. As a person who homebrews as a hobby, it was very interesting to see and hear about the Sam Adams process. The samples were great, staff was friendly, and overall it was a fun experience. I would recommend purchasing the add-ons.Visited July 2024Traveled soloWritten July 28, 2024
- AOK2BaTravelerChicago, Illinois14 contributionsVery informative and worthy $10 tourVery informative $10 tour that included three 4 to 5 ounce beer samples. We had the Boston Lager, a seasonal and a lesser known, but publicly available option. Head to the bar area afterwards to purchase beers on tap or from the coolers that are in the R&D stage and not available anywhere else. Ask the bartender for favorites and try a taste of 1 or 2 before orderingVisited August 2024Traveled as a coupleWritten August 5, 2024
- Molly6 contributionsSam Adams Brewery TourPhenomenal tour. There are lots of options to choose from for this tour. The staff are all very friendly and our tour guide, Joel, was awesome. Learning about Sam Adams history, their brewing process and tasting some of the microbrews was a great experience. We’d do this again!Visited August 2024Traveled as a coupleWritten August 27, 2024
- Emily RLondon, United Kingdom18 contributionsEnjoyable Time on the Beyond The Brewhouse Tour - Skip the $7 Add-OnWe did the Sam Adams - Beyond The Brewhouse 45 minutes tour. This was a great tour and a way to learn about how Sam Adams creates their beers. It was nice to see the indoor workspace to see how all the fermenting happens, but I didn’t realize ahead of time that this Sam Adams location is a historical brewing location and they don’t bottle beer there. This location is more of a research and development space where they test out various new brews and can get feedback regarding if it works or not. In terms of the beers provided, all three of the basic package were a good mix of tried and true lager you expect and shifting to their experimental brews in line with the location. However, before attending the tour, I didn’t realize the $7 add-on for the straight from the barrel was an unfinished product that our tour guide was honest that most participants “probably wouldn’t finish and wouldn’t be ready for another year or so”. If I had known this, I wouldn’t have purchased this add on because I expected it to be a brew that was just finished and essentially ready to be put on draft at the facility and we were getting the fresh pour before the final step. Personally, I took 2 sips before putting the beer down as I found it undrinkable and noticed about 3/4 of the tour group doing the same thing. So overall, would recommend this tour, but can probably skip the $7 add on unless you want the experience of tasting unfinished beer.Visited June 2024Traveled as a coupleWritten September 17, 2024

There are a few free things that you should not miss while in Boston - the Freedom Trail, the USS Constitution and of course, the Samuel Adams Brewery!!
The brewery is very nice, and the staff are passionate about the place they work, and the beer they produce. They don't take you too far into the actual brewery, but they do show you some of the copper vats that the different brews are made in and explain the process of brewing. The tour is also interactive, handling small amounts of hops and grains and most importantly, tasting some of their delicious beers!
If you have a few hours to kill, this should be on your list of places to visit!

My husband and I visited Samuel Adams Brewery while we were visiting Boston, it came highly recommended to us.
While the beers are great, expect to wait in many lines and sit with people that aren't in your party. There was a line to get in, a line to get beer at the bar, and a long line of people waiting for a seat inside the brewery. The seating is first come, first serve. There is bar stool seating around the bar, a few tables upstairs, a set of four leather chairs by the front door, and many long tables downstairs. We were lucky enough to have a couple invite us to sit with them in the leather chairs by the front door.
We were slightly disappointed because they were out of their Kolsch when we visited (only two hours after they opened at 12 pm). It must be a popular beer and go fast. If you're looking to try that, I recommend showing up early! My brother in law visited when they opened and said there was already a long line to get in long before they opened. It's a very popular place to visit downtown.
Overall, we're happy we visited the brewery. The bartenders provided great chat and service, despite being so busy. The beers were great, we enjoyed them. We tried the Helles Lager, the Boston Lager, and the Crisp Lager. Our favourite was the famous Boston Lager. I can't speak on how the food or brewery tours are since we just stopped in for a beer.
I would recommend checking it out if you're a big Samuel Adams or beer fan, just plan accordingly because it's a very busy place. It would be a fun place to grab a few beers with a small group of friends.

We did this free tour on our recent trip to Boston, take the orange T line to Green St Station, it’s then about a 5 minute walk to the Brewery. It’s informative, if a little rushed, but also done in a light hearted way and enjoyable through the brewing process. Then into the sample room to sample 3 different beers with your free sample size glass and amusing tasting notes.Afterwards it goes through the gift shop and then into the tap room with loads more beers to buy & try. If you like beer, then as it’s free it’s a good way to spend an hour or two. I believe there are other tours that you can pay for, but don’t know how much better they are than the free one.

Visiting the Sam Adams brewery has been on our to-do list when visiting Boston, and we finally had the chance. We arrived at 3:30 on a miserably rainy day with a 4:30 tour time. Due to the weather the inside was crowded, but we managed to get a dry outdoor table under cover where we enjoyed a preparatory flight of beer and a giant pretzel. The tour itself was not what we expected. This brewery is extremely small... you basically walk in one room where they point to the various pieces of equipment and explain the beer making process. Our tour guide was personable and explained the process well. A good thing is they give you a beer to enjoy on the tour. When you're done in the brew room you go to a tasting room to learn more and try one of their experimental brews. Ours was very good, and it was fun to try something that hasn't hit the market. You get to keep the glass and the sample glass as souvenirs.
If you go in with the understanding that this isn't much of a facility you'll be fine. The microbrewery restaurants in my area have more production capacity than this site.

Several of us decided to take the tour. Even though we are well above fifty, we were "carded" (actually stamped) to show that we were of legal age to be served. We are asked to conduct a survey of six beers as to our liking them for various times of the year. Then the tour started - it was not a lot of walking but it was very informative. Our young docent did a remarkable job on dispensing of the important information.. After sampling some of the ingredients, we were led to the tasting room where we were offered more info on beers and served two other beers. The entire tour lasted just under ninety minutes. Parking pin the area is extremely difficult. consider a cab to get there!

We went to the Sam Adams brewery for what we thought was a tour. We have been on many other brewery tours so we expected the same type of experience. However, this experience should more be labeled an information session and beer tasting. You get at least 3 pours of 3 different beers included in the "tour". You first enter the brewing room where the guide gave you your first tasting and gave you some history on beer and some information on how Samuel Adams brewery does their brewing (which most of it happens in Cincinnati). Our guide was full of energy and funny so she made things very interesting. We then went to a separate room with three long tables where we all sat. There we got 2 more pours, one of which was a new beer that was in the research and development phase. The guide also showed us how to properly taste our beer using 4 out of the 5 senses. We were lucky to be sitting with a very fun group, so it made our hour "tour" very fun! Afterwards we went into their bar area and enjoyed some more beers. The bartenders were very friendly and answered all of our questions and allowed us to sample some of the beers before ordering. They also have a really pretty outdoor area to sit in if you wish and a small variety of food to order. While it wasn't the time we expected, we still enjoyed the experience......and of course the beer!!

Family was visiting from out of town, and we were looking for something fun to do on a cold winter afternoon. We decided to take the Classic Tour at Sam Adams Brewery. There is no charge, (although a donation is suggested - all money goes to support community endeavors). Since it was. Friday, there were tours scheduled every half-hour. We didn't have to wait, and walked right in. The tour guide was well-informed, and kept things moving, and humorous. The tour consisted of a brief history of Sam Adams beer, how it was made, and the research and development that kept it changing. It ended with a tasting of three different beers (you get to keep the tasting glasses.). It is located near the Stony Brook T stop on the Orange line. There is a very small parking lot, or else street parking. This was a great tour, and kept us out of the wind for 1 hour!

What a great tour Samual Adams offer. The chance to see and find out about the history of the Samual Adams brewery. The basic tour only cost $10 each and for that you get a full understanding of brewery, a glass of beer while your guide tell you the history and plenty interesting facts. Our guide Sarah was excellent. Once the first part is over your then get to taste some more beers where you’re guide will explain how judges rate beers for competitions. It was a great way to spend an hour or so and then head off into the Tap Room to try the rest of the products.

This was my wife’s first visit to a brewery and my second. We used the Orange Line from Downtown Crossing. It was only a 10 min walk from the terminal to the brewery. We arrived a little early to our tour time so visited the bar and store before queuing up for the tour. Beer selections in the bar was numerous and tough to make a choice. We selected Porch Rocker since it was a very hot afternoon. We also ordered some soft pretzels which were huge! One order split between the two of us was plenty.
The brewery tour was really good and entertaining. The tour guide was very knowledgeable and hilarious. Within the first 5 minutes you could tell this was going to be a very fun light-hearted tour. There were plenty of beer samples and, of course, we could take our sample glasses home with us. The wife had a happy smile from ear to ear after the tour. Not sure if her smile was from all the beer samples, the awesome tour and visit, or a combination of both. Either way we both highly recommend taking time to visit the Sam Adams Brewery.

Hi there, I was just wondering how you came across a free tour. The official website is kind of confusing and doesn't mention anything about a short free tour. Would be grateful if you could let me know. Many thanks

I would call to confirm the times. When we were there Aug 2019, the first free tour was at 11:00 am and then every 20 minutes. We took the orange line to Stony Brook and it was just a short walk. The smokestack says "Haffenreffer," not Sam Adams.

Yes when we went years ago there was a fee however since time has passed I believe the fee might be higher and I would contact them directly to find out exactly how much the fee is now. Have fun because we did for sure...!
