The area

Neighborhood: Downtown
The largest area of the city, Downtown is rich with historical and iconic sites in Boston. Stroll through one of Boston’s most famous green spaces, the Boston Public Gardens, check out and make way for duckling statues, picnic under a beautiful tree overlooking the pond, and walk over the iconic footbridge where, during summer time, you will catch a swan boat toting children and eager tourists through the pond. Have your camera ready to capture its peaceful beauty in the middle of a bustling city. Continue on through the Gardens and take in some open green space at the Boston Common, where you can spend time throwing a frisbee, sitting on a park bench, or, in the winter time, skating on the frog pond. Head north from the end of the Common to see the golden dome of the State House, and travel through government center to Quincy Market and Faneuil Hall, both a historic and popular destination worth a quick visit for a first time to Boston. Head to Long Wharf to visit the Aquarium, or catch a boat to Charlestown or even Cape Cod.

I have passed this spot a number of times, then I saw it on a TripAdvisor list of Boston pubs and liked the menu. I also figured it would have a good bar selection. My son and I were taking a getaway to Beantown so this place fit right in. We walked in to a packed house at a little after 6 pm but found a couple of seats on the side rail. Our server was polite and efficient. We had beer or wine and I really liked the Beantown Ale. The wings we started with were super flavorful and came with carrots and celery. We both had the open faced turkey sandwich with mashed potatoes, gravy and cranberry sauce. The serving was huge and the food was delicious. Indefinitely recommend Beantown Pub.

It was my good fortune to accidentally stumble upon this historically and ideally located pub. Visiting Boston with my daughter, I was meeting friends who live outside of Boston and came in to attend a show at The Orpheum. I noticed this busy pub while searching the surrounding neighborhood. Perfectly located in relation to the theater and a historical burial ground, this was a great spot to meet up for drinks and quick bites. While waiting for a table, I met the owner Roger whose friendly demeanor set the tone for the evening. It took a while for my friends to show up, yet we were not rushed while we sat and waited for them and listened to music from the 70s and 80s. We all throughly enjoyed our drinks and dishes at this relaxed watering hole and agreed that we would return again.

Came here after leaving a place that did not wait on us. What a surprise when we read on the menu this was a sister restaurant to place we left. Completely 180 degree different experience. We were greeted at the door and taken to a table. Menu's were there shortly and drink orders taken. Our waitperson was friendly while busy serving numerous tables. The food was great except for 1 item---I had the lobster roll and lobster was very soggy & bland. However my soup & sides were great & my wife enjoyed her burger & sides.

Waitress at takeout counter was completely clueless. I ordered a traditional BLT that was listed on their Blackboard menu for $10.99
She took my order and she asked if I wanted ham on the sandwich. I said no. Then she asked if I wanted tomatoes and bacon and I said that is what I ordered a BLT. The food bill came to $12.25 and I said the menu list the item at 10.99
I asked about the difference and she said she didn’t know The total bill came to$12.25 with the tax. I gave her a.$20.00 and she gave me $10.25 back. She dropped my change and didn’t apologize. I didn’t tell her she gave me too much money back. The sandwich came out on a plate and at that time she asked me if I wanted for “here or to go”. I said here. Why didn’t she ask when I placed the order? Based on the service I didn’t leave a tip or inform her she gave about $2.00 extra in change. In the past if cashiers gave me too much change back I would inform them, in this case Beantown Pub can eat the loss without ham. JEEZ. Last trip here for me

Beantown pub has a nice atmosphere but the overall service is very poor. Getting a beer took a surprising long time even with the pub not overly crowded.

Stopped in for beer and appetizers. It seems to be a lively place (loud but OK). Service was good ... efficient but not exactly welcoming. It needs a good deep cleaning, I think.

It’s an Irish Bar. Nothing special other than its open late. Decent drink menu. Ok local brews. Sports on most TVs. Homey. Ok Service.
