Bites of Boston Food Tours' Sweet and Savory South End Tour is a food...

Bites of Boston Food Tours' Sweet and Savory South End Tour is a food tasting and neighborhood walking tour, providing locals and visitors alike the opportunity to explore and learn about the South End of Boston. The South End is a vibrant culinary and cultural community, but remains an area less traveled by most who visit the city. Our "off the beaten path" adventure combines delicious food tastings at 6 local eateries with a fascinating neighborhood tour to allow our guests to explore and experience the South End like a local.

During the tour, guests can expect to not only learn about the history chef/owners behind each of the restaurants and markets we visit and taste delicious local foods, but also to visit unique points of local historical, architectural and cultural interest in the neighborhood. This 3-hour tour is filled with food, facts and fun!

All food tastings are included in the ticket price and collectively provide enough food for a satisfying lunch for most people. This tour covers approximately 1.5 miles in 3 hours and is suitable for a variety of ages and fitness levels.

Laurel was a great tour guide; she was very knowledgeable, friendly and willing to give more traveling and restaurants tips along the way. The Sweet & Savoury South End Tour itself was a good balance of food and history. We went to six restaurants with reasonable portions for food. I thought the restaurant choices were very eclectic — just like South... More

The tour is advertised as a food tour, but there is more time dedicated to history than there is to food (not necessarily a bad thing but just nice to know going in). Our tour guide was very knowledgable about the neighborhood we walked through and she provided many fun facts! Over the course of the tour you don't walk... More

Hi Erin, Thank you for taking the time to write a review. Our tour is "advertised" as a food tasting and neighborhood walking tour and we have done our best to accurately describe the experience on our website. Seeing as your reservation indicated you found us on TripAdvisor initially, we also hoped you had read some of the other 275... More

This was my first time visiting Boston, and the Sweet & Savoury South End Tour was a fantastic way to discover some of the local hot spots of the beautiful South End Boston neighbourhood. I brought a friend with me, and even though they have lived in the South End of Boston for years, they had a great time re-discovering... More

Excellent introduction to a historic area and amazing places to eat - visit 6 and get recommendations for 20 more - and walk past some you would like to come back to! A great way to get an informed overview - lots of local colour, history and the latest about Boston's food scene. Our guide was thoughtful, super-friendly, and enthusiastic... More

This was our first trip to Boston and enjoy taking Food Tours to get the lay of the land. We stayed on the North End of Boston, so decided to take a tour of the South End. Laurel gave us a great overview and insight into South End, the food culture, history, current developments. The tour offered a good variety... More

This was great, our guide Laurel had a great knowledge of history and food. We started out with a great sandwich and ended with Mac and cheese. In between we learned a lot and tried something new . We went on one other food tour while in Boston , this was 159% better. Having done food tours all over the... More

We did a South End Food tour today and thoroughly enjoyed it. We did 6 stops on the route. Laurel, our guide, was fun and provided a lot of historical facts. She is very passionate about food and it shows. Laurel was also very conscientious of finding us shady spots and keeping the tour moving and on time. The tour... More

Walked the South End of Boston, sampling food along the way, with a wonderful historical commentary provided about the region, the eateries, and other possible places to dine or enjoy the area. Our guide, Laurel, was terrific! It was lots of fun and filling in every way.

I moved to Boston about a year ago and since then have been doing my best to get to know the vibrant restaurant scene, especially in the South End. I loved the approach that the tour took: acknowledging and orienting us to the bigger names in the Boston food scene as well as the overall history of the South End,... More

The sweet and savory tour only goes to 6 places and you sit at 3 so you don't get to visit as many places as other tours due to timing. Our group was also rather large - 16 so there's no tour dialog along the way, just stops where context was given. I enjoyed the commentary that Rachel provided from... More

Hi There! Thank you for your review. We are glad you enjoyed the tour and found the local fare to be "top notch" - we agree! We do want to clarify one point that is a bit misleading from your comments. Our tour includes a hearty historical, architectural and cultural component, equating to plenty of "dialog along the way"; we... More

Staying in South End

Neighborhood Profile
South End
Stroll down the beautiful brownstone lined streets while capturing views of Boston’s tallest buildings from a distance. Some of Boston’s best restaurants are scattered around this neighborhood. There are many gems to be found, from jazz clubs to classy bars and restaurants. It is also home to art galleries, interesting boutiques, artsy stores and SOWA open market during the summer months. The South End is a true find in the city, with a more residential feeling than Back Bay.
