Boston By Foot was excellent in every way! We booked the "Johnny Tremain's Boston" tour as the boys in our family had all read the book. It's a great historical fiction book that brings the Revolution and the Tea Party to life.

We booked this private tour and then had to cancel it due to out-of-state family postponing their trip due to hurricane warnings. They were great about giving me a refund and then rebooking the tour just a week later when our family was able to reschedule their trip. The company's coordination and communication was great.

Our guide, Ann was fabulous! Her love for the book, Boston, and history was so evident. She was waiting for us even though we arrived 15 minutes early. She even helped us find bathrooms along our route as we had just driven 2 hours. She did a great job making the tour appropriate for the kids (ages 12, 11, and two 10 year olds). When some of the information was more than they wanted, she could tell and moved on. She was excellent at pointing out nooks and crannies along the route that related to the book. She answered all of our questions and was patient with the kids, even doing parts of tour in a light rain. She added at least a half hour to the length of our tour. When the tour was over, she even took us back a different way, so we could pick up treats at a delicious bakery.

I would highly recommend reading Johnny Tremain with your kids and then taking them on this tour. It brings the American Revolution to life! We did the tour in the morning and then visited the Tea Party museum in the afternoon. It was the perfect day of American history.

With all the walking tour companies available in Boston, we had a hard time trying to decide which one to choose. After reading other reviews and comparing prices, we settled on Boston By Foot. Thank goodness we did, because it was a wonderful experience. We took two different tours ("Heart of the Freedom Trail" and "Road to Revolution") for the price of what it would have cost us to take a tour with one of their competitors. There was a some overlap between the two tours, but not that much since both have different focuses. Our tour guides, Ellen and Tom, were fantastic with an impressive breadth of knowledge about Boston's history and a passion to share what they know. Boston By Foot likes to keep the size of the tours small (I believe 15 at max) so that it's easier to interact with the guides and focus more on topics of interest to the group. We came away feeling enriched from the experience, learning much more than we ever knew prior to the tours and wanting to learn more once we got home. I highly recommend taking one of their tours if you get an opportunity...it will be a great experience at a value price.

A group of friends went on the Reinventing Boston tour with guide Tom R. The tour was fantastic! Tom was a wealth of Boston knowledge. Tom weaves facts into a story that connects each stop. He spoke of history, technology innovations, and engineering for over 90 minutes and was captivating throughout. We all came away with greater knowledge and understanding of Boston and were entertained such that the time flew by. Highly recommended!

This was a great walking tour of Boston and told stories of the lesser known "dark side" of Boston. Not a ghost tour but more historical information. Our tour guide was very knowledgeable and great to listen to. I believe his name was Bob (I am finally getting around to writing this from several months ago). Would highly recommend this tour, but not suitable for handicapped as there is stairs and a lot of ground is covered.

Though Boston by Foot has suspended their regular walking tours during the pandemic, it's still possible to book private tours. I scheduled one of the Ladder Blocks section of Boston and it was excellent! Terri was an engaging and knowledgeable guide, the safety protocols made me comfortable, and I learned a lot about a neighborhood I walk through every day but never really appreciated. BBF's online offerings are excellent as well.

The tour company was extremely responsive and cooperative about changing our tour time due to anticipated rain .
Joni definitely knew her history on our tour but unfortunately we could not hear her. We understand that Boston is a loud and busy town but she really needed a microphone. Even though she raised her voice several times when we asked her if we could not hear her. She kept asking us to move closer but with Covid and unvaccinated children that was inappropriate. I also didn’t feel like she engaged our children or tried to make the tour interactive.

I actually live in the Beacon Hill neighborhood and am trying to learn more about the area and its stories. Linda, my tour guide, was highly knowledgable and knew all kinds of interesting historical facts and tidbits. These tours are a fabulous bargain for the curious who want to learn from someone who is conducting the tour as a volunteer because they care so much about their city and its history.

My son studied Johnny Tremain for school and wanted to learn more about the novel's setting. Anne, our tour guide, was amazing! She not only kept our fourth grader engaged, answering all of his questions, but she knew the novel well and was a walking encyclopedia on the Revolution, its players and Boston at that time. She also taught us quite a bit about the changing topography of the city. Sincere thanks Anne. We really hope to catch one of your other tours.

I LOVED our tour guides. We did Beacon Hill, there were four of us. Our guide was friendly and knowledeable. Marie cared deeply for the history and kept us loving every minute of the tour. We also did Ben Franklin Son of Boston. Again it was amazing. I LOVED the small groups - it was personable - no blaring loud speakers, just time to enjoy the history we were walking in. My teenager really enjoyed it as well.

Great tour at a relaxed pace with a group of about 13 50 somethings with tour guide Tom R. He was a font of knowledge and went quite in depth into the history of Boston - maybe too much for some. He dealt well with other interruptions from the city as it was a busy, summery Saturday. Recommended.
