About
Enjoy an outing on one of the most scenic sections of urban river in the country. An experience on the Charles River from our Boston location in Allston/Brighton is a wonderful respite from the surrounding city, with parkland on both shores and rowers plying the waters. Head downstream and you'll encounter local colleges (Harvard, M.I.T., and B.U.) and eventually the Esplanade (a great picnic spot!) and the unforgettable Boston skyline. This nine-mile stretch of river has no current, allowing painless round trips. However, renters can also enjoy one-way trips to or from our Cambridge location in Kendall Square — a unique way to see the city!

I messed up and booked the wrong day. The team were really helpful and got me out on the water anyway. While I was out they sorted out the refund for the tour I’d originally booked so I only paid for the boat hire that I used.
Great way to see Boston, I paddled about 2 miles upstream before turning back. 2 hours gives you plenty of scope to explore a long way on the river!

Thank you Charles River Canoe & Kayak! I was there 9/12/20 with a large group and the staff was professional, courteous, hard working and kept everyone COVID safe. Everyone in our group had a good time. Impressive!

We’re locals who rented kayaks out of Kendall Square over Labor Day weekend. Perfect afternoon out on the Charles. Outfitter was professional, quality equipment, and easy safety/registration to start. Highly recommend this unique way to enjoy the city.

We do the seasonal pass every year because we live up the street in Cambridge. This place is so easy and laid back and makes it so easy to have a city adventure. They also have several locations throughout so there’s always something different to see.

Went paddleboarding on the Charles with the husband, launched from the Kendall Square location. Very efficient setup from the crew running the show. I'm not the best paddleboarder and the current was tough, but the views were downright amazing. Got to see Boston in a whole new light with killer views of the skyline (sorry, no photos!). A must do for locals!

My daughter and I rented kayaks and had a wonderful paddle from Allston/Brighton down to Kendall Square. As advertised, it is an easy trip. I preferred the area where we started, up around Harvard; the river is narrower (therefore less busy) and the views more scenic. It was a fun and unique way to spend the day, and not even the rainstorm that interrupted our trip could put a "damper" on it! Highly recommended-I would do this again.

I am doing two separate reviews because I have kayaked from 2 different locations. In July a group of us rented kayaks from Boston Canoe and Kayak and launched from their Allston Brighton location. There was plenty of parking, we were required to take a short quiz on boating safety and the staff were attentive to our safety needs. I have my own life jacket and they asked to see it to make sure it met specs. We were coached on how to enter the boats from the dock which was good since a couple of us did not have this experience. We had all paddled before so did not need any lessons but they were so attentive that I'm sure they would have. It was a wonderful day to paddle the 8 miles round trip to the Museum of Science and back and a great way to see Boston from a different perspective. Very few bigger boats but the ones that went by were very considerate and gave minimal wake. boats are rented by the hour and can get pricey I you want to take your time but worth it.

My family & I (2 adults, 2 teens) rented two double kayaks yesterday from Charles River Canoe & Kayak - the Cambridge/Kendall Square location. It was quite easy and efficient to secure the kayaks and get on the water. The entire process (fill out forms, take a quick safety quiz, get paddles & life preservers, settle into your kayak) took less than five minutes, with plenty of folks to help at each stage.
It helped it was a beautiful day and the picture opportunities looking back at downtown Boston were plenty. This was a great alternative to so many of the other touristy opportunities and gave our family a great memory.
