This striking I.M. Pei edifice, famous for its beauty and infamous for falling glass panes, is Boston's tallest building. After terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center and the Pentagon, the popular 60th-floor observatory was permanently closed due to security concerns.

I caught the world cup 3rd4th placing match here in July 2014 - really nice grand views. Cocktails were delicious, did not try the food. Relaxing way to spend the afternoon when you want to get away from the crowds.

Views from the top of the John Hancock building are incredible - we went to the bar and were able to grab a seat looking out over the city. After visiting Chicago, a frequent visitor shared the tip that enjoying the views from the bar (in the evening) is a great tourist tip - versus paying for the same view... More

Well, at that height the view can't be anything but fantastic. However, would I have hit myself for not visiting the one and only chance I have, don't think so some how. But there were lots of other people there who all appeared to think it was fantastic. Got to make your own mind up on this one.

Worth the few dollars to go to the top. Went just before Thanksgiving and Christmas was already being set up for. The pine smell, lights, colors and music. A movie was being shot at the viewing area on top. Totally cool to see. The view from that height was spectacular at night!! Very romantic.

True that the view is spectacular, especially on a clear day, however, $29 per person seemed like a steep fee. We spent about an hour gazing out the massive windows, but I still thought it was overpriced. 5 star for the view, 1 star for the price, hence, the 3 star review.

Have done the Signature Lounge previously and just did the Observatory with kids. Observatory is expensive at about $30 for adults and $20 for kids. Views are amazing from all four sides. Not sure my 6 and 8 year old kids really knew to appreciate. Obviously, the view is the lure. No comfortable place to sit and relax, although there... More

Between Boston and Cambridge, you get to see them both. The best part, or the one that is really worth it more than the shops, is the viewing platform on the top. It has a 360° view of the city with an audio guide.

This is the first time we went up at night and although it was an amazing view with the city lit up, two of the sides were water and were essentially dark. We did get the treat of getting there around 9:15pm and were able to see the fireworks shot from Navy Pier at 9:30pm. Worth the $ to see... More

Staying in Back Bay

Neighborhood Profile
Back Bay
Wander around this quintessential neighborhood in the heart of Boston for high-end shops, restaurants, and the feeling of city bustle. Its most identifiable skyscrapers, the Prudential Center and John Hancock Tower, are highlights of the city skyline. Visit Newbury street to explore unique and trendy boutiques – as well as every other kind of store imaginable – all housed in beautiful brownstone buildings. In nice weather, restaurant patio seating is packed with Bostonians and tourists alike soaking up the sunshine and enjoying the food. Commonwealth Ave offers a beautiful stroll down residential tree-lined streets. Keep walking towards the Charles River and enjoy a beautiful view by the water. In warmer months, people run and bike on paths running along the esplanade, and sail and kayak on the Charles River. Boylston street, also full of shops, bars, and restaurants, is the finish line of the Boston Marathon. Head towards Copley Square and check out the Boston Public Library, which is particularly beautiful from the Dartmouth street entrance.
