I was kind of skeptical at first. When I first stepped on and started rockin my buddy made me laugh so hard I was bobbing back and forth . I got the hang of it pretty good ,even after the Paul Blart cracks . Defiantly ask for Jackie she was an awesome trainer and Tour guide. If I can do it anyone can . Don’t be scared. Lots of fun. I’d do it again.

Being first timers to Asheville and having been on segway tours before, we thought this tour might be the best way to get acquainted with the city. We couldn't have been more right.

From the first moment Wes rolled up on the segway, my husband and I looked at each other as if to say, "Ok, this guy is going to be awesome." And Wes doesn't disappoint. He keeps the tour laidback, full of fun information and allows for some great cruising time on the segways. It's almost like you're getting acquainted with a city and a friend because of how conversational and easy to talk to, Wes is. Sometimes tour guides are the downfall of tours, but for Moving Sidewalk Tours, Wes is one of the highlights. As are the segways.

If you've never been on a segway before, and you are wanting to see Asheville. You need to take this tour. We did a weekday tour for $55, which in the segway business, is extremely reasonable. There's no reason to be afraid of being on a segway. There is lots of training time at the beginning and once you learn to trust the machine (ie. lean forwad to go and back to stop) it really is THAT easy. And if you haven't figured it out yet, we've been on multiple segway tours (I always look for one when we travel) because they really are THAT fun.

All in all, this segway tour is fun, informative and guaranteed to give you lasting memories!

I’ve just returned from 4 days in Asheville (20th Anniversary) and this tour was the highlight of MY trip (although it may have been a toss-up between this and Biltmore for my wife). This was our first time on a Segway and we were surprised at how easy it is was to master. After only a few minutes practicing in a parking lot, we were ready to head out. But Wes (the tour guide) kept us practicing until he felt sure that all four of us were ready to begin the tour (about 15-20 mins).

The tour lasted over 2 hours and included many of the sites you’d find on Asheville’s Urban Tour (a self-guided walking tour), but in a much more enjoyable way. Wes has a very dry sense of humor that we enjoyed and we had a number of laughs at those who have evidently never seen anyone on segway before.

Asheville is also a nearly perfect spot for this kind of tour. With a small and picturesque downtown, you can both see a good portion of the city while still avoiding the crowds you would find in the larger cities. And because there are some hills, the segway may actually be an easier tour than walking. And trust me on this, by the time you do face your first hill, you hardly notice. The science behind these things is incredible and is designed specifically to be naturally intuitive.

We travel quite a bit and have done many a tourist activity, but this ranks near the top on my all-time list. Unless you’re over 260 pounds, you CAN quickly and easily learn to master this, regardless of age. It is SO much easier than you might think and I pity those who choose to take a pass because they don’t think they can ride it. I feel pretty confident saying that if you try it, you won’t regret it.

I have been to/from Asheville prior to this for various reasons ( meetings, dinner meetings, shopping) but have a hard time getting a good feel for the buildings and history from a car and car park. So we took some family - a teenager and his mother in her 40’s - on a Segway tour so they could see why we enjoy Asheville, and so we could see it more up close. The whole experience was just great! The tour took just the right amount of time, had good pertinent historical and architectural information about the city without overloading us and highlighted some sites we might want to explore later. Doing a tour of Asheville on Segways (which seemed to be well maintained) helped us get our bearings in a town that’s a little unfamiliar to a sporadic visitor. The initial safety briefing was helpful and the instructions on what to do and not to do were clear. We felt very safe and felt like we had enough time to see/do/stop and even deviate from the tour with a short stop. THe equipment seemed to be in good order. I saw parts of Asheville with which I was familiar - and parts I was not. Some things were great surprises to learn!

The only negative: the guide had the driest and perhaps a little disgruntled demeanor. He was not friendly and didn’t seem remotely interested in us as people. Being a Segway tour guide was not probably in the best fit for someone who doesn’t seem to like to converse with strangers - a little too sarcastic, a little too robotic, without attempting to talk with us outside of the scripted tour information.

Aside from that, we, as a small group of four, had a good time, felt safe, learned a bunch, and would definitely recommend this tour - for both locals and visitors to the area. Bring your own water bottles, sunscreen and definitely wear comfortable shoes.

Since the ride is half the fun, I always look for Segway tours in every city we visit. We have taken Segway tours in cities throughout the US as well as Canada, Malta, Colombia, and the Philippines, so you can say we are experienced riders. This tour was by far the worst we've ever taken because of Scott, our tour guide. He was not friendly, not engaging, had an off putting attitude, and even yelled at me. Although we got to see many sights in downtown Asheville, we didn't really learn anything because we couldn't hear him from the back of the line. And when my husband tried to ask questions, the answer was very sarcastically answered. He was also showing off to the 2 teen boys on the tour and even offered to race them as we headed back. I gave this review 2 dots because of the Segway.

My husband and I have segwayed before, we had "D" as our guide. She was AWFUL!!!! She talked and talked and talked...every time we got going on the segway, she STOPPED and talked for 15-20 mins. Then at one point she stopped and got off the sugway and leaned them up against the brick wall!! She stopped at every Thomas Wolfe site and talked and talked...my husband and I finally decided to just keep moving so we did circles nearby so we could spend as much time ON THE SEGWAY AS POSSIBLE- since that's what we paid for...a RIDE, not a lecture!!

While we appreciate your review, thank you for taking the time. You did sign up for a "guided Segway tour" of Asheville and if you were looking for more of a ride and less of a tour, we wish you would've specified at time of booking. Thank you for joining us, our pleasure to show you the city.

Scott is a good teacher (for the newbies) and very good tour guide for Asheville. We were somewhat familiar with Asheville but learned a lot of new information. Segways are always fun and a great way to tour any city. Would highly recommend!

We had so much fun touring the Asheville area with Wes. This was our 7th Segway tour and there is no better way to tour a city. You learn a lot about the city and have so much fun riding the Segways at the same time. We all agreed this was the best segway tour that we have ever had. It's great having a small group (he only take 4 guests at a time) it was only myself, my husband and my 19yr old son. It was like a private tour designed just for us! We would definitely recommend Moving Sidewalk Segways and Wes to anyone who wants to have fun and learn some interesting things about Asheville. Thanks Wes for a great time!

My hubby and I were planning a day trip to Asheville. My hubby had total knee replacements last oct. and needed to do something fun. I discovered this tour at 4 am on Saturday. I emailed and wes called me back. (not at 4 am but later) We made plans for the tour. He worked around and was able to give us a time slot that fit. The day was a wee bit chilly. We meet Wes at the Asheville Visitors city and the fun began. It was just the two of us on the tour with Wes so the training went fast. I will admit I thought this would be something just for the hubby. He has wanted to do the segway for a while now. I was wrong. Even with the chilly day it was great. I have to give Wes this. He makes it safe. He makes sure you are under control and having a good time. He has seen a lot of mistakes and knows what you are going to do wrong.
Do not try to step to the side off the segway, you will find yourself tripping over the wheel...but no fear Wes will catch you. He is a combo of tour guide and mother duck which I found reassuring. His segway goes faster than the ones you are given, dont even try to go rogue, he will catch you. You get to stop and Wes gives you gets historical stories. We toured great Arts and Crafts homes and Wes told us the histories of many of them. Did you know there is a wall running down under down town? Wes took us on one way streets and a few sidewalks. Then you get to stop at a small cafe, City bakery cafe. Drinks and pastries cant be beat.

I am 61. I had my doubts about doing this. Mainly about safety and not falling off. You wont. The segway is an amazing thing. It is the only thing more amazing than Wes.
You will not believe how fast you find yourself just gliding along. At first I had a 'death grip' on the handles and Wes got me to relax and enjoy the segway. By the end I felt like I had done it all my life. It is amazing the feeling you will get.

Wes goes out of his way to make this an enjoyable trip. He seems to pick up on little things. He stopped at our car letting us get warmer clothes. He told us anytime we wanted to stop we could. The tour and training took two and half hours but it flew by.

My son was a tour guide for another activity at one time...remember to tip your guide...

What a fantastic experience! Wes was our guide and he was incredible. His knowledge of Asheville and it's history is amazing; there weren't any questions he couldn't answer. The day was cold but beautiful. This still would have been a blast in the rain. At 75 and 68 years old, we had no trouble with the Segways after our training session with Wes. We would both recommend this outing to anyone. Personally, I can't wait to go again.
