We like places that feature local art and artists, and this place is one of several in Asheville that showcase many artists. We actually forgot about this place and were about to walk right be it, but did stop in once we remembered what it was. We actually saw pieces from some artists we recognize. We didn't buy anything this time around (spend our money elsewhere in Asheville) but it seemed busy and lively.

Waking around the art district, stopped in here, first thing I saw was a cooler with soft drinks and bottled water. The water was cold, and only a dollar. There are plants, ceramics, paintings, photography little bit of everything. The basement has furniture.
It is worth the stop.

Highly recommend visiting Kress, they mostly have interesting, well-priced artwork that changes every few feet you walk. I loved our visit here! And we bought a few pieces too. Staff very helpful and organized. We'll be back for sure!

We stopped in here for a while on our first afternoon in Asheville. It would be a great cold / rainy day activity. It is a large space on one of the main blocks just off downtown. It has main aisles in basically a long U-shape. On each side are small stalls with various art objects for sale. They sell the types of things you see at booths at outdoor art festivals, but instead the booths are moved indoors.

The booths had a huge variety of things for sale, and it was easy to find something that generated a smile or a laugh. Depending on your mood / interest, you could browse here for quiet a while. I don't think we ended up getting anything but there seemed to be a fair number of people carrying items that they apparently did plan to purchase.

Worth a stop.

Kress is awesome. There are booths set up throughout, most seem to be local artisans with works on display. Not much cheap flea market junk either. We would have bought more if we didn't fly, took several cards and pictures to check their websites when we got home. Great place to be introduced to new, to me, artists.

The Kress Emporium was a fun stop in Asheville.
The aisles are wide and the areas have been laid out with room to move and observe the objects.
The staff was welcoming and willing to answer any questions.

We always enjoy walking through the Kress Emporium. It offers an interesting selection of artist booths with an array of work that is for sale. The downstairs is a furniture store.

We happened to walk by and I saw some artsy items out front that drew us in. It's an old S.H. Kress store that's been converted into an artist coop (at least I think it's a coop). They have a large number of stalls offering works by a wide variety of local artists.

Downstairs is a separate store that offers furniture and designers. If you like wood, make the trip downstairs as there are some great pieces of live edge furniture.

The Kress Emporium is a great shop. The staff is friendly and there is a large variety of items available that were made by local artists. The store is large so it is fun to browse while looking for those unique gifts.
