I've rated this theater based on 3 issues. First, the moves that come to this theater are ones that might not ever come to town without their efforts. Second, this is the only theater in the downtown, and its proximity to some good restaurants - Laurey's and Doc Chey's in particular - makes this theater a great destination. Third, Asheville's downtown in the 1980's was in a bad shape. There was even talk of tearing down all the buildings and building a mall. There were a few people that had the foresight to stop this effort, and the owner of the Fine Arts was one of them. He turned an old adult theater into a great destination.

Unique theater in Asheville. We went on $5 Tuesday and saw Grand Budapest Hotel movie. Big theatre, nice friendly crowd. Seats 30 minutes prior. Not much room to wait when waiting for next show - can be a problem if weather is bad (it was snow showers outside when we went). But it was a great place to go to see a movie. There is a parking garage almost next door for $5 fee. Neat section of town. The bathrooms are downstairs and were okay.

This is NOT a run of the mill movie theatre. More of an art house but not exclusively. I always check their listings first before going to the regular theatres. Large screen, small house.

Aw, I just love this movie theater. We live in Asheville and mostly go to other theaters simply because this one doesn't always have the first-run movies one hears about, but occasionally we will find a movie and go just for the atmosphere. It has that old movie theater feel like the one in the '60's in the small Arkansas town I grew up in. The staff is wonderful, the popcorn is delicious, and we are not beer drinkers (what! in Asheville! is that possible!) but the other reviews have stated you can buy a beer and enjoy a movie. I might try that next time with my wife! The movies are sometimes "edgy" so its not the place to go without knowing what the movie is, but there is enough variety where anyone eventually can go and enjoy the best movie experience in Western North Carolina! The fact that some of the movies are simply awesome but not released to the major national chains is what makes this fun sometimes! We highly recommend it! Enjoy!

Fine Arts is a wonderful moviehouse that shows independent films. Save your ticket and enjoy 1/2 off a dessert at Chestnut next door or go down to the City Bakery, enjoy a coffee and discuss the movie.

This little theatre is fantastic for those movies that might not otherwise be seen in big box theaters. Or at least they can be seen here sooner than the big box places. I love the intimacy and the people working there are friendly. Not sure if there is an elevator so if steps are out of the question call them first.

The Fine Arts tends to show independent movies and quality, thoughtful movies - no summer blockbusters that are just vehicles for CGI. It acknowledges its racy past during trailers; just ask any Ashevillian. Ticket prices are reasonable, as are concessions, and beer and wine are available. The theater will occasionally sponsor a Q&A/discussion on a movie when it's over, led by two local Asheville movie critics.

I grew up with big, mega-theaters so I was a bit confused as to what this was when I moved to Asheville. After attending both a movie and a meeting of local filmmakers here, I have to say I'm charmed. Make sure you buy your tickets at the window outside before coming in. They have a pretty varied and decently priced selection of food/drinks for a theater. Provided you don't sit in the front couple rows, as in all theaters, the screen was easy to see and the sound was decent.

Just watched my first movie at this lovely theater. Comfortable seats, aisles and view. I'll be coming back for more

How soon before a movie is the box office open? Do we need to get there early to avoid sold out shows?

We never saw the place crowded, but on Tuesday it probably is.
