A Bit Shabby

The hallmark of this place is the hordes of homeless people who squat here and in the surrounding areas, and Asheville is quite famous and proud of its homeless population. The entire square looks a bit shabby and is desperate need of a facelift.

The heart of Asheville

Pack Square is quite simply the still beating heart of Asheville. It really is their version of Trafalgar Square. It's a place to relax, people watch, grab dinner, dessert, have a coffee on a bench, or bask in the sun. There are a few monuments and art sculptures on one side with cafes and restaurants on the other. From here you can view several examples of architecture that helps define Asheville. The square is slowly and steadily dominated by hipsters the closer it gets to sundown. It's not uncommon to see a Pedal Pub/Beer Bike go by. There are BLM messages alongside messages of love and some anti-police rhetoric on the sidewalk. Families and old couples wearing masks are long gone by then. There were a few homeless lingering around the benches so exercise caution. Check out nearby French Broad Chocolate Lounge for a slice of cake and maybe a cappuccino. We went in early October and the leaves were turning a beautiful yellow as the sun faded. Just a great place to be.

This is a family friendly park.Great place to relax.
There is a Veterans’ Memorial which stands near the courthouse at the northeast corner of the park.
The place must be even more lively during on of many events that take place here.

the French Broad chocolate lounge is the place to go for your chocolate cravings and sweet tooth, I would suggest go for dinner at Packs tavern first make sure to leave room for (great food and service) then take the short about two block walk to the french broad for dessert

Casual outdoor gathering place downtown to people watch or be part of the activity.

Nice park like setting downtown. Close to a variety of restaurants and beer tasting spots. Usually a variety of different things going on on different days. A good place to catch a free concert or some mid day sun and sky.

Great park in downtown Asheville!

Pack square is a great space to find a spot for a picnic or to attend one of the many events held there throughout the year. There are public restrooms and a guide center should you want to know more about the city and the surrounding areas. Excellent accessibility to local eateries and shopping should this interest you.

My daughter and I were visiting friends in Asheville, and they showed us around. This downtown park area had a real nice vibe to it. Just strolling through the area made for a very peaceful and relaxing day.

Walked around and enjoyed it all.

We just walked though the area and enjoyed it tremendously. Would gladly go back for more. It was cool out but sunny and everyone we met were very friendly.

Pleasant city center park often has musicians.
