Relaxing trip. With COVID protocols in place, you now have to wear a mask on the bus trip and you're only allowed to use the changing rooms when you get off the river. They are also restricting the number of people that can be on the river at any time by using reservations online. Still a great relaxing activity and only a few more days remaining this season at the South location.

Went on a trip here with a group of 7. The staff were very friendly and helped with any questions we had. River was a good float and weather held off nicely. I would highly recommend this place to anyone. I really like how they schedule times so that everyone is not piled up in the same area. The one thing that need improved is they should let you do another float if you want without having a time scheduled and not charge you. Thats how all the other companies operate. We WILL go again! One more thing to the staff: if you are going to use an American flag as a marker for the take out point, keep it off the ground!!

Super awesome company to book floating down the French Broad with!! Very easy booking process, and super organized upon arrival. You park at the bottom of the river and they shuttle you up to the top where you get your raft and start down the river.

They have 3 different raft sizes too, which is great! With buckles to connect to your group and even a cup holder!

Everything was very clean and safely distanced, all staff wearing masks. The shuttles seemed to run every 10 mins or so, and only a couple people in each for social distancing.

Would highly recommend booking with Zen tubing! ($25 a person, and they sell a raft for your cooler to float down the river for only $5!!)

We were very excited to tube with Zen after my SIL called around to get info. But this experience was horrible from beginning to end! We arrived at 2pm for our reservation at 2:15. We made one loop around the parking lot and it was packed. When we started the 2nd loop they decided we needed to go to the overflow lot. We were directed to a local church parking lot where we found a tent set up for overflow. There was quite the crowd and after getting in line we were told they couldn't check us in until the equipment was there. (And apparently they had just restarted using the overflow lot even though they used it in the morning and had sent all the stuff back). 30 minutes later we were finally checked in, only the shuttle bus was full. They also realized they had no life jackets so we had to wait for those to be delivered. Finally, we arrived at the start and to our surprise, there were NO TUBES available! They blamed it on traffic and yet were able to continue to bus more loads of customers forming quite the long line of unhappy people waiting for tubes to start the trip. It was 3:45 before we finally had tubes and entered the river even though we had a 2:15 reservation. The place is POORLY managed at best and is not worth the money or time. We waited so long to start, we ended up being super dangerous in an afternoon thunderstorm while on the river. If we had started on time this would have been avoided altogether. We also had to give our paddles up and were told more paddles would arrive with the tubes and of course they didn’t so we were without. Instead of enjoying zen on the river, we spent the entire day frustrated with the lack of management and then panicked trying to get out of the storm as quickly as possible. Oh, and then we had to wait for another shuttle to take us back to overflow where there was NO place to change into dry clothes! AWFUL experience and we do not recommend at all!!!

Next time we will go to a much smaller place that cares about customers and honors reservations instead of just packing as many people as they can (that they don't have parking OR tubes for) into a time slot. We waited so long to start, we ended up being super dangerous in an afternoon thunderstorm while on the river. If we had started on time this would have been avoided altogether. Five years I’ve come to zen tubing and loved every minute of it.

This year they’ve decided to charge people 25.00 to go down the river for a second time. This has never been previous policy although some manager claims it’s been done before in the past.

Here’s the problem, it’s nowhere on their website. It’s nowhere on the ticket page or the receipt when you book your tickets.

They let you ride all day and then they try to charge you the additional 25 bucks for each time you go down.

Imagine you have a family with 3 kids. Do you think an additional surprise $150 is acceptable to throw on this family when they’re trying to leave?

All their staff is teenagers. The dressing rooms are two trailers with no cleaning. The facilities are port a potty’s and the buses and vans taking you up the river are literally falling apart.

This year my group and I witnessed two employees literally screaming at a man to get up and walk to them...why? They said he would have floated past their checkpoint. They were so incredibly rude to this guy.

For 25.00 it was a lot of fun but I’m over money grubbing companies like Zen, raising their fees as a sh:tty parting gift.

Never again, Zen tubing, NEVER AGAIN.

We have received the information about your experience and hope that recently emailed correspondence has helped to clarify that a second trip is $5 per person, when we have availability.  We are using your concerns to help in training our new employees.

This is definitely a thing TO DO while in Asheville. If you don't have the "expertise" to want to kayak, this is for anybody and almost everbody. You just sit and enjoy! The river does all the work! Take sunscreen though. I would also take a cooler of drinks and get the cooler float. The team was really efficient at getting you to the float beginning spot from the parking lot and getting in and out of the water was no problem whatsoever. Do the waivers online before you go, saves time when you get there. More than worth the cheap price of $25!!!

Went on July 4. Big crowds but more than enough friendly staff to handle. Easy free parking. Lots of port a potties for last minute needs.Life jackets optional for adults. Each group receives one paddle. Easy hook ups for all tubes in the group. Suggest you get the full size blue tube with back rest. They even have a "cooler" tube for $5 to hold all your adult beverages. Possible to get in/out of the tube without getting wet. Along the French Broad River lots of spots/small islands for a beverage break. No time limit to finish. Our trip took about three hours with a 30 minute stop for a rope swing. $25 per person and third time free. Can't beat the price. Only wish we had discovered them before we had been in Asheville 34 years.

If you are looking for a slow, relaxed float down a lazy river, there is none lazier than this stretch of the French Broad from the Asheville South drop in. This was our families first experience with Zen Tubing and will definitely return for future floats.
We really wish we were offered more than one paddle as the wind was blowing against us and it took about 3 hours to make the journey. I recommend you ask for an extra paddle or bring your own.
I also HIGHLY recommend that you take care of your bio breaks before you get on the shuttle and be warned you will see other people taking care of theirs on along the way. There is no shade so take care to use sunscreen! That aside, it would have been very fun to have taken a cooler and had a tasty beverage along the way.
Zen Staff were all efficient and organized. Tubes were great with the solid bottoms and cup holder. Just be sure to check that you have both straps tied to each side when you choose your tube. This helps with linking in to your people.

There were 2 of us. It was easy to reserve a spot online. It was fun and relaxing. We really did not need life vests because the water was shallow. So we took them off because they were too hot and in the way. We got stuck on big rocks a few times because the water was so low. Next we will take a cooler. There is not room in the tube for anything extra other than a cup holder. The paddles came in handy. We each had one. The hardest part was getting over to the left at the end of the trip and getting out of the water. I had to get out of the tube and walk it over to the exit ramp. Then it was very hard to walk in the water by the steps because the rocks are uneven and slippery. They are not allowed to help you get out or carry the tubes up the steps. I'm guessing because of covid-19. It would be nice if they'd give you some tips about how to get over and exit. Many people were having a hard time to getting out of their tube without falling. I saw several people struggling and falling down. They should put some kind of flat dock by the steps. It would be much easier to get out. There was no help or tips getting in at the start and getting out at the end. Other than that it was relaxing just to float down the water. DO NOT wear flip flops! You need some type of water shoe or sandal or old shoes that you don't mind getting wet!
