About
Independent and family owned, since 1994. Highland Brewing Company carved the path for Asheville craft and proudly roots itself in North Carolina. Highland is the largest independent family-owned brewery born in the Southeast and is regionally distributed throughout NC, SC, TN, & GA. The brewery is in a rehabilitated manufacturing facility on a hilltop, affording space for thousands of visitors to enjoy limited release beers, outdoor activities, and live music. With a large outdoor meadow & bar, volleyball courts, hiking trails, food trucks, mountain views, and more across the 40-acre property, Highland is the perfect place to get a taste of Asheville. In addition, the event center and rooftop can be reserved for private events. Highland was founded by retired engineer, Oscar Wong in 1994. Since 2015, the company has been led by Wong’s daughter, Leah Wong Ashburn.

    Great Saturday afternoon option
Big area both inside and out to hang out and enjoy their brew selection. Friendly staff. Lots of seating indoors and out with food truck options on Saturday afternoons. Good place to meet friends.

    Great outdoor space and music
Came here on a Sunday afternoon to hear live music and try the beer. It was a beautiful sunny afternoon and we were able to sit outside. Music that day was inside. There were 2 food trucks with decent food. The brewery is about 10 minutes from downtown Asheville. Fun spot.

Nice brewery with good beer and reasonable prices.
This is the one that was consistently listed as one of the best if not the best in Asheville. It’s a bright and airy place with a great view of the mountains. Service was very good and extremely helpful. $6 for a craft beer especially the size they give you is very reasonable. If I come back to Asheville I will definitely come back here.

    Highland Beer!
We visited Highland Brewery for a tour. We liked the experience and the beers. Our tour guide, Doug, was entertaining and knowledgeable about the company. The facility has various activities for the family (live music inside, food trucks outside, a little farmers market, sand volley ball courts, disc golf and etc). Pet friendly. Definitely worth visiting!

    Definitely worth a visit!
This brewery is a short drive outside the downtown area, but it is a destination in itself! Very large seating areas, inside and outside. There were three food trucks with a wide variety of selections and a couple smaller vendors providing hot dogs, pretzels, and desserts. Great selection of beer. Fun, relaxed atmosphere. We were there Saturday evening, and they had a band playing.

Excellent beer and a good selection. Outdoor seating as well as a huge indoor seating area. Unfortunately, no food - there is a food truck on the side of the building with a limited selection of food.

What an unexpected find this was. Recommended to us by some locals and so glad we visited. Great beer, but really fun place. Great place to bring the whole family and enjoy a day outdoors or indoors. There was a Christmas Market going on in one of their buildings, live music along with the World Cup on TV in another building, beach volleyball and lots of family picnicing in the Meadows. Food trucks had yummy food. We really enjoyed sampling the beers too. Great place to hang out and relax!

We spent an evening here on the Meadow listening to Hope Griffin and sampling the brewery product. Wonderful evening. Great to see families and friends just playing, socialing and having fun. Great place for people watching and just enjoying a nice day.

Asheville is a great brewery town and you can use several days of a vacation just doing a crawl on the slope downtown. Highland is more like a retreat, both geographically and as a state of mind, outside of the hubbub of town. That’s what makes it so charming and a must-visit. You go up on the hill for the good beer and food trucks of course, but also to experience the hall and the grounds, especially in good weather. It’s a wonderful brewery concept and it’s impressive that it was the first brewery in town. A true standard bearer.

This was one of the stops on our personal brewery tour. It turned out to be one of our favorites. Of course the beer was good but what we really loved was the corn toss games out front. We had 4 teenagers in our group of 13 who really enjoyed having something to do besides watching the adults drink. The property is huge and they have plenty of outdoor seating if you are concerned about being inside with a crowd.

Good variety of beers, awesome grounds. We enjoyed the free disc golf (byo discs). It's not a great course for beginners because there are sharp bushes in the out of bounds areas. They do trivia on Monday, live music through the week, and have a lawn area for hanging out in the sun. Tons of seating inside and outside. Dog and kid friendly (but remember it's a brewery not a playground, not a dog park)

This is a well know brewery with an interesting history. The bar inside is nice and open and would be a nice place to hang out. We did the tour (which had a fee) and included some interesting info plus 5 beers. So the tour is worth the price of the beer basically, but not the most comprehensive tour. However, it was a pouring rain day so a great inside activity. Plus the beer is really good!
