About
Founded in 1990, Blue Spiral 1 presents work by exceptional artists in an awe-inspiring space. The light-filled 15,000 square-foot gallery spans three floors connected by an open stairway. Blue Spiral 1 presents over twenty annual exhibitions of sculpture, paintings, studio craft, and photography. They are either discipline based or developed around themes. The gallery's upper level features a diverse collection of works by nearly 100 regularly represented artists. The gallery also has had the privilege of representing the estate of Will Henry Stevens (1881-1949) for thirty years. A pioneer in modernism in the American South, Stevens, "should be on everyone's list of the top 10-15 underrated artists in America in the first part of the 20th Century." -David Houston, Director of Curatorial, Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art (previous)

Really enjoyed all the different very high quality art mediums in this gallery, from watercolors, oil on canvas, glass and metal sculpture, fabric creations etc. 3 floors took about 35 minutes to explore. No one bothered us , it was just like visiting a museum. Prices were generally way beyond my price range, but it’s nice to dream!

I highly recommend stopping by this gallery! It is three floors of art including glass, mixed media, print paint, sculpture. Beautiful pieces just to view or buy if you are in the market.

This is a very large gallery on three levels that features interesting modern art. Some of it can be quite unusual, but it's always worth stopping in to take a look. During our recent visit they were in the process of setting up a new exhibit, so not all of the space was open. The prices are a little on the higher end, but even if you can't afford to purchase it, you can enjoy viewing it. The location is very central to downtown so when you're walking around, pop in here to see some interesting artwork.

Don’t be fooled. At first you may be impressed by the facility. Pre sale service was good as well . Once we paid their very full prices for a number of works, the situation changed. Client satisfaction was not on the radar. We have done business with galleries for 30 years. We count gallery directors and artists as some of our closest friends. We were hopeful to continue that tradition, but to the contrary we experienced total disappointment and dissatisfaction. Visit the museum but don’t buy.

We searched this out after reading some of the TripAdvisor reviews, and were not disappointed. This is a large gallery, showcasing an excellent variety of art mediums and styles, much of it craft-based. Spend 2 hours here, even if you don't have a chance to purchase now. You will be inspired. If one is serious about possible purchase(s) without a specific medium or artist in mind, 3-4 hrs will be needed.

This is my favorite art gallery in Asheville. Buying a piece of art is a very personal process, even when you are looking directly at it in person. It is especially difficult during this time of social distancing and the closure of the gallery to the public. However, the gallery staff has made the process of viewing the artists’ work on its website very easy. Browse all artists, if there is a piece in which you are interested, just save it to your “collection,” and type the staff a note. I received a telephone call from Michael Manes, we set up a FaceTime chat, in which he had hung the pieces in which I was interested in one place on the wall, told me about each piece and the artist, pointed out interesting features of each piece, and answered any questions I had. Easy peezy, we completed a purchase, and he wrapped and delivered the piece to me at my driveway (or will ship to you). They are flexible in this time, if you want to discuss the piece after you actually see it in person. The staff and service could not be any better.

Thank you so much for sharing your experience! This has been a very challenging time, but we as a gallery are striving to come up with innovative ways to make art viewing and/or collecting as easy as possible. We hope you enjoy your new art! :)
