We happened on this shop while walking in Ashville/Biltmore Village on an anniversary visit to see the Biltmore grounds. All I can say is Wow. We did purchase a lovely anniversary gift for ourselves. Beautiful pieces and a lot of choices from very reasonable priced to a " bit more". If you are a collector of art or artsy stuff you have to give this place a visit.

This eclectic art gallery is entertaining to browse and visit when you need to find the right gift for a wife who has (almost ) everything. If you're not sure if your choice would match her taste, there's always a gift certificate. Normally a gift certificate might seem impersonal, but half the fun is that she gets to wander the brightly decorated rooms and pick from among a diverse selection of jewelry, stoneware, fabrics, decorative art, hangings, bacon cookers, and more. Like other husbands, finding a gift for my spouse is challenging, but this place works for me.

This great gallery has it all! There is every kind of art from local and other artisans for sale but even if you're not shopping to buy, it is the perfect place to just look at all the talent on display. There is every kind of art medium imaginable. and the staff is helpful to give you information and the craft and artisan. I love this artisan gallery more than any I've ever visited and it is definitely on the list of must-do's in Asheville along with Biltmore Estate.

We shop at New Morning every time we visit Asheville. Fortunately we do not visit but every other year or so or we would be broke! This is one of the largest galleries of it's kind ever. Always something new to see as well as favorite artists they have featured for years. we love shopping here and taking friends too!

This is a wonderful gallery with a vast array of art. It is one of the largest galleries I have ever visited. We spent a lot of time enjoying the art and even found some pieces to bring home with us. This absolutely is the best art gallery in Asheville.

We somehow always manage to stop in Biltmore Village whenever we're in Asheville, and this is a shop we always stop into. They have a wide variety of items from pricey furniture to more affordable crafts. We've made small purchases here (e.g., ceramic wall hanging) in the past, and purchased a Christmas ornament on our most recent visit. There is a little bit of covered parking but it can fill up fast. You can always drive around the Village until you see a space.

I've lived in Asheville for years and New Morning is always on the "why don't we see what's going on" list, especially at this time of year - Christmas. It's everything in the "contemporary arty space" from kitchenware to glass, hand crafted furniture and most things in between. The jewelry selection, mostly from local artists, is always a source of great products - usually inducing the inevitable "lightening of the wallet" when something almost invariably catches my fancy.

I seldom bother with 'shopping' reviews, but like a much smaller arts/crafts store in Saluda (Heartwood), New Morning is simply too good not to praise. It's in a small concentration of stores and shops in what is called "Biltmore Village." It's not far from the entrance road to the Biltmore on the south end of Asheville. I would guess it's a mile and a half of so below the heart of Downtown Asheville on the main drag (what is, or at least becomes, Biltmore Ave.). If you are getting off at Exit 50 of the interstate, you will drive right by New Morning as you head north on your way into town.

My parents lived for years south of Asheville on Columbus and my wife and I would drive up to Asheville almost every time we visited. I doubt that we or I missed New Morning more than a time or two. It's just such an interesting place - everything from kitchen gadgets (just a few) to ikibana (sp?) vases to quilts to beautiful, strange furniture to lots and lots and lots of pottery to prints to lots of silver jewelry to gorgeous jewelry boxes (my latest purchase) to whimsical animals representations of all kinds. (Cats, as a theme, are prominently represented, but I like the place anyway.)

Prices aren't cheap, but neither is it terribly high end. Mary and I have bought a little bit of almost everything over the years. Very, very helpful and attentive staff. Lots of room to wander. Good lighting. If you can't find a gift for someone at New Morning you really aren't trying very hard. And, as a sign in the store says, nothing in the store is produced in China - only one out of 2,000 U.S. stores can make that claim. A wonderful place.

And, if you have a 20-30 minutes . . . Just south of New Morning, beyond the bank, you will see a tall, narrow stone building that looks like it dates from about 1350. That Romanesque church was the Vanderbilts church when there were in residence at the Biltmore - same architect. It's a fascinating place to spend a few minutes, if for no other reason than the absolutely incredible window glass and the baptismal font. Take a second to walk over to it.

This shop--owned by one of Asheville's most powerful movers and shakers--has a delightful variety of products at a bewilderingly inexplicable range of prices. For example, I have purchased a ceramic cup there for $18, and on another visit bought another (comparable) one for $100. So: by all means go to this shop, look for pretty things (you will find many) and keep your wits about you. Then buy something.

We stopped here on a recent trip to Asheville and were very impressed with wide variety and good quality of the crafts displayed in this very large gallery. It was one of the high points of our trip.
