My wife had never been to a play performed outside so we went and saw Tartuffe presented by the Montford Park Players. The evening stated with the Director and Costume Designer talking about directing the play and creating the costumes. The play was excellent and very enjoyable. The English translation was great and we we able to get all of... More

While visiting the Asheville area, our family of four checked out the Montford Park Players. We thought it would be a nice free way to spend the evening, so we packed up the cooler with a picnic blanket and headed to the amphitheatre, only to find that this particular production was a fund raising one the Players. Cost of admission... More

This mostly volunteer group puts on outstanding plays outdoors during the Summer at the Hazel Robinson Amphitheatre in the historic Montford area, and indoors during the winter months at the Masonic Temple in Downtown Asheville. The Summer plays are free, and the indoor productions are modestly priced. They do mostly Shakespeare, but other playwrights are also featured as well. It... More

I've been a few times with my kids. Bring a blanket & pack a picnic. If you are bringing kids who you think would sit through a Shakespeare play, I recommend going to a comedy as they are always quite engaging for the younger set.

We've attended several productions and they are always excellent. Plus, there is something about sitting outside during a performance that makes it extra special.

We packed up a cooler and some treats and enjoyed a terrific performance of The Merchant of Venice. The cast was excellent and interacted with the audience, right down to eating someone's grapes while delivering the lines!

Sit outside and enjoy some fine performances of Shakespeare. You start under the evening sunset and finish as the sun has set. Take a snack and a lawn chair or a blanket. You are outside on a terraced ground. Most performances are not amplified so be quiet, listen and enjoy. The performers project their voice well with their trained skills... More

My family and I always enjoy these summer plays. It takes a while for my 10 year old to follow the dialogue, but he always has a profound synopsis/comment/critque afterward. We are always excited to join MPP each month outdoors in summer! Most of the actors are top notch. Its classic entertainment for the whole family, with truffles and beverages... More

My husband and I went up to Asheville - a little over an hour from where we live in South Carolina- to see the players last performance of Hamlet. Having never been up there before, we were very impressed by both the stage and the audience area set-up. The sky was clear, the air was crisp, and the actors were... More
