We love shoji spa. We're locals and have been several times. It's always a great experience. The setting is amazing, the facilities are lovely, and they've got all the necessary COVID-19 precautions in place. We highly recommend it -- both for locals looking for an afternoon get-away and for out-of-town visitors looking for a bit of relaxation.

So refreshing that some destinations actually improve with age ! It had been several years since I had experienced Shoji and it was delightful then. This time I brought two friends visiting from New Orleans and you can imagine their delight in being brought to this mountain retreat. We enjoyed the tub complete with wine overlooking the forrest, the the cold shower, sauna and finally our Medical Massage Chair and let me assure you this is like no other chair ! 45 minutes of bliss , the next best thing to an actual massage and that evening we had NO aches or pains. Love it that there are more tubs now as well. The staff led by Rebecca were attentive and friendly. I will return soon. Thank you for a delightful day.

Please know before you reserve a massage. You will be breathing into a pillow case during the facedown of your massage and wearing a mask face up. I didn’t know about the pillow case before I made our reservation. I was only going to have them work on me face down. I have a underlying lung condition that hinders me when wearing a face covering. This would have been a wonderful experience if not for the pillow case. I would have appreciated knowing this before I made my reservation. Also, they gave us a gift certificate instead of refunding our money. I appreciate the kindness of the therapist and all they tried to do to make me comfortable. My husband and I were celebrating our 31st anniversary.

Response from Shoji_spa, Spa Director at Shoji Spa & Lodge

Dear Valued Guest, Thank you for sharing your comments. I have found that we can only achieve a higher standard of professionalism with the feedback from our guests. I sympathize with you and understand your concern regarding mis information or lack of information when booking a reservation for a service at Shoji Spa. Perhaps you may not have read the confirmation letter that is automatically sent to you via your email. Upon reopening, Shoiji Spa took extra measures to list our Covid Protocols as the first items listed on the email, hoping guest will have the opportunity to read it in its entirety. But at best, the important first few mentions. The first instructional mention is : Upon arrival please wait in your car until 15 minutes prior to your appointment. The second mention is: A mask is required to enter the Spa. The appointment email is followed by other important booking information. Our staff is also trained to give a much information during the phone conversation as guests are asking many valid Covid questions pertaining to their health. I would also like to address the pillowcase. Again, upon reopening Shoji sought the expert advise from top massage therapy teachers. We contracted the professionals to train our valued staff to keep both the therapist and customer safest. It has been a relief to our customers to see the pillowcase which fits snuggly around the face cradle. This allows for the guest air to remain in the pillowcase acting as a shield to the spread of any facial aerosols into the air. The use of the pillowcase is of great comfort to our therapist who have agreed to reengage in therapeutic touch during these difficult times. Our promise is to our staff and our guests, to continue to offer the most safe conditions available. I am sorry that you were uncomfortable and that you have a preexisting condition that may have exacerbated the ease of the massage therapy. I am happy to hear that the staff acted graciously and offered you a gift certificate. We hope to welcome you when we are no longer in need of using the pillowcase.

My husband and I stayed at the House of Wind for 2 nights and absolutely loved the space! The King bed was super comfortable and the vaulted ceilings in natural wood with the stone fireplace was so restful and romantic. Our soak in our private Salt Mineral Hot Tub was better than I could imagine, the grounds are beautifully kept and we felt very safe with their protocol with masks and cleanliness. We had a couples massage in a wonderful setting, my therapist was Stephanie and she was very nurturing and gave a fantastic massage. I highly recommend this Spa, the setting is beautiful and the air up there smells fresh and rejuvenating.

Very cool and beautiful setting for a great outdoor yet shaded saltwater tub experience. Good feel and picturesque hillside location. Bring your own skin moisturizer for after the salt baths!
