Visited this post office on 19 Feb 2020. Bought and mailed myself a picture postcard of the post office. And mailed a second card to our cousin in Europe. The postmaster was very cordial, as are most postmasters at small post offices we visit for the same purpose.

Being the smallest post office in the United States makes of this post office a fun landmark to visit.

If you are in the area, stop by and see it for yourself.
You are there to appreciate this famous post but that’s about it. What you see is what you get.

Tip: It’s very close to Big Cypress Nal. Preserve where you can take a tour in a swamp buggy!

Not much else to see, but this little post office is worth a quick stop. Watch for the 'Post Office' sign as you drive, as it is very small, and easy to overshoot.

Yes, it's small. Really small. And not very glamorous.

But what do you expect from something that used to be an irrigation pipe shed?

This tiny building is considered to be the smallest post office in the US. A 1953 fire destroyed the original general store and post office, and the residents needed something quickly. Everybody knows how slowly the wheels of government turn, right? So the postmaster at the time started using this shed as the post office.

Fifty-seven years later, the little shed is still being used as an official post office.

It's located right on Hwy 41, the Tamiami Trail.

It’s really neat to stop at this Post Office because it is the smallest operating post office. You can mail or buy stamps there too! There is always one person there during operating hours. A sign is there telling you the history of it.

If you love tiny houses or know someone who has worked for the post office, this is a spot for you. This little shack is the smallest Post Office in america. Given the temperatures here, I couldn't imagine sitting in this box in the 100 degree weather and 100% humidity. Quick stop, right off 41, just east of the intersection with 29. If you come during the day, you can meet the brave soul who mans this post.

I have a collection of photos of post offices across the nation, from the ho-hum-typical to the hey-look-at-that-unusual. This one falls into the latter category, and it's a cutie-patutie. I wasn't expecting this along the Tamiami Trail, so it was even more special. It is a functioning post office, dating from the '50s (in a tiny building older than that), so bring your postcards to be mailed or buy some stamps. It will be memorable.

This place is very small. Talked to postmaster and he sounds like a character. Been there for a long time. Worth stopping and taking a look at it.

Don't blink or you'll miss it! I suggest putting this into GPS so you don't go past it. There are no signs warning that a post office is ahead. Worth the stop for photo op.
