We were hoping for a short, enjoyable trail to the remnants of the Sam Nail Ranch. The Sam Nail Ranch trail and ranch remnants did not fit either desire. The trail was through brush that blocked your views. The Remnants of the ranch was one,...More

You can park in the small parking area and take a short hike to the old ranch. It was an interesting side trip on our visit to BBNP and worth a visit. You can see a few results of the place that was there many...More

This is a stop on Ross Maxwell Scenic Drive- easy short hike- working windmill-- shade trees are a welcome relief from the heat- cant imagine living, working at the ranch--

Not much left of the old ranch except for some mud walls and a couple windmills, but still well worth the stop and the short walk to the site. One of the windmills is still pumping water which transforms the ranch site into a tree-covered...More

Very easy walk and very good for birding in morning or late evening. If you aren't birding, I don't think it's worth stopping.

We made the short walk into this location to watch birds and were rewarded with some interesting species that were taking advantage of the water source. The history of the site as a ranch is also interesting.

This was a very interesting side walk from the road. It was actually quite interesting to see the life of someone living there and how they accessed the water- interesting for anyone that likes birds as well.

Seeing the abandoned ranch and two trees they planted next to their (now non-existent) house in the desert, I find it hard to understand how anyone could think the Chihuahuan Desert would be a nice place to raise a family. These people must have been...More
