There are many places in the Badlands with stuff you can buy to remember your trip. But save your tourist budget for places like this. Besides filling such an important niche as an outlet for Native American artisans, it’s a locally run, independent business which is so crucial in our corporate minded age. And most importantly, the store is filled with beautiful art that’s hard to leave behind!

I researched native art venues when planning our trip to the Badlands with our 10 year old granddaughter. We thoroughly enjoyed our visit and found many treasures.

This is a wonderful shop, selling authentic wares, near the Badlands Visitor Center. Don’t miss it!

Small business, locally owned, selling native products.

My wife and I travel to areas in or around Native American reservations on a regular basis. We like to purchase true handmade art that supports the artists-funds hitting either the artists or local business that deals directly with the artist. Native West is just outside Badlands National Park -maybe 2 miles from the visitor center. The shop sells a wide range of art generated by local Sioux artists. Our visit to South Dakota had two goals- see the Badlands and feel the culture of the great plains nations. The culture was much harder to find than we had anticipated- Native West was an important find-as well as Singing Horse Trading Co in Porcupine and Prairie Edge in Rapid City.

One of the most beautiful little shops I've ever seen. Driving highway 44 was awesome anyway (way better than I-90), and this stop made it even more worth while. The prices are reasonable for local, handmade Native arts and crafts, and the selection is wide. The employee was also very kind. If you're going to get a genuine souvenir from South Dakota, this is one place where you won't go wrong.

A small place full of all kinds of beautiful bead work & handmade art; the owner is in the process of adding onto the existing building. The owner was helpful & nice to talk with; if we're in the area again, I would love to stop back in after their addition is finished.

Right in Interior, just outside the Pine Ridge Reservation. Specialized in local artists. Wide selection & no touristy trinkets!

The Native West Trading Company is off the beaten path but is well worth the trip to view & purchase handmade art of the Lakota Sioux. We stopped here on a whim and were amazed by the beautiful displays. I will make a point to return here on our next trip through South Dakota.

I reviewed Native West several years ago. I really liked what it stood for. Returning to visit a small business after several years, one never knows how time will treat it.I am happy to say the store is vibrant. It is a cultural marketplace, allowing the local Sioux artists an opportunity to show and sell their artwork. It is important to local commerce and culture. If you collect native art, this is where to shop- absolutely authentic, since you are at the source, great pricing.
