Beautiful trail from Great Falls park to River Bend park

Wonderful trail with scenic look outs fit for family outing. Easy trail and kids will have fun climbing trees along the way.

We have seen the prettier sections, but we hiked on a really primitive part of the trail to the East of Theodore Roosevelt Island. Dirt tracks next to the river and picnics on rocks in the river. We found it through Windy Run Park - Interesting hike.

This was the most spectacular and enjoyable experience. Picturesque and magnificent. A hidden gem that we are so glad we found

I love this walk, there are some trickling small waterfalls and small cliffs and flat trails. I used to take my dog walking here and he was able to get a lap of water when thirsty. Young kids might like to run through the hills here, go over small streams and walk in the flats.

I love the Potomac Heritage trail, particularly when I can find a time to run on it when its nearly empty. Especially in cold weather or the heat of the summer you can get out on the trail and imagine that you are completely on your own nowhere near DC, but instead somewhere in the countryside.

Tried this trail as part of a 20-mile training run in the early autumn. After an excellent 10 miles of C&O Canal towpath and crossing the Key Bridge to Theodore Roosevelt Island, I thought I'd take this trail back on the VA side of the Potomac a few miles at least to Chain Bridge. The trail is a narrow forest... More

Training for longer hikes and bigger outings, going from the TR Island parking lot to the Cabin John Bridge and back, with pack, is a good 20 mile RT day. Terrain is largely flat, just a bit of topography, so this is an excellent training hike.

I walked the trail again this morning. This is my hundredth time, so I feel I know every inch of it. The Potomac Heritage Trail is incorrectly listed in Trip Advisor as being in McLean, Virginia, when in fact it starts at Roosevelt Island across from Georgetown and runs on the south side of the Potomac westward for more than... This trail runs for miles along the western shore of the Potomac. From charming old town Alexandria to Reagan National Airport and beyond this trail offers flat paved surfaces and plenty of beautiful views of the Nation's Capital just across the river. Perfect for walking, running or biking. Highly recommended.
