This is a spectacular place. So much selection and so many pieces of local history. I could easily spend a day here examining the beauty of the minerals and stones. Kudos for the Replica Dino Cast Bones. As well as the mining equipment and buggy on display. An absolute treasure of a store.

Interesting stop. Many fossils informative staff. A number of old machines out front that were as interesting as the fossils and rocks. Store looks well worn but it has been there longtime and rocks and fossils are not new anyway. We spent a lot more time here than I thought we would and came back again on our way out of town.

Took the kids here otw back from Canyonlands and had a great time. Girls got to pick out pretty gems and jewelry while the boys (and myself) bought cool fossils, petrified wood, and almost a megalodon shark tooth (they had several for sale). Low pressure environment and knowledgeable staff, very cool and unique finds from local dogs and worldwide.

This is a great place to learn about fossils, minerals and other interesting and educational items. They give away a piece of free fossilized dinosaur bone and have some dinosaur skeketons just like in a museum. Finding the place is easy and should be included on any trip through the Moab area.

This is the rock shop that got me to love rock shops! I've been a yearly visitor since the age of 18, and never leave the area without gifting myself a spectacular rock to remember my trip with. Whether it be a fossil, petrified wood, a beautiful stepping stone, sparkling crystals and minerals or polished stone, Lin Ottinger and his family & staff can find the perfect thing for you. My last visit (after the mammoth burning in Bluff) led me to a polished piece of mammoth bone-- the perfect memento!

Ottinger's "mini-museum" never fails to inspire me. If you get lucky, Lin will be at the store and will tell you tales of his trips that will leave you breathless. And then the dog will let you pet him, and your day will be complete.

Thank you, Lin for giving me the courage to explore the red fins and spires of the Colorado Plateau, and for the opportunity to have a bit of the area at my own home.

Depends on what you are looking for, when visiting. Lots of small pieces out front if you want a little souvenir. Larger pieces inside, excepting the huge pieces of petrified wood outside as well. I was looking for a particular rockhounding book which they didnt have. An interesting stop while you are in town.

You've got three generations of geology-loving Ottingers running a shop that looks like it just grew where it sits on the highway into Moab. I'd guess there are things, a big hunk of fossilized tree trunk, old mining machinery, what have you, that probably haven't moved since Lin put them down the 1960s. The business model is old fashioned and cool too. Free corny bumper stickers! Free dinosaur bone for heaven's sake! (I mean with purchase, of course) At the same time, though the place seems like it must always be getting flooded with new stuff. There are mounds of cool stones from all over the region (for cheap), there are crafty souvenir type trinkets, and there are literally tons of awesome, surprising fossils and crazy rocks that would look at home in a museum.
I don't know. An good, old rock shop is a really a pretty singular kind of thing. I know they disappear, I don't know if anybody ever starts one these days, and this is the best one I know of still going.

As a geologist, I have travelled far and wide, and no place can compete with Lin's. It is basically a museum, it has unmatched selection, great prices; iconic Moab.
