I have been in a lot of rock shops. This one is the best!. First, outside the shop is the old machinery museum of antique drilling rigs and farm equipment. So you don't have to be a rock lover to enjoy this site. Next is the extensive petrified wood in the yard. Inside, this shop has something for everyone. Rock jewelry, natural stones, polished stones, fossils, shaped stones and dinosaur bones. With prices from $1 to $1000s. I really like the set up of the shop. There are sections for stones and fossils found in Utah. Each type of stone and information about where it came from. This is a family business and the original owner has now retired. On one of my two visits I found a very well informed person behind the counter; on the second, a young cashier who wasn't a rock nut. Others have mentioned the dinosaur fossils and molds and that just adds to the fun of the store. One last plus, their large parking area has room for RVs.

We stopped on our visit to Arches National Park and it was great! They have an amazing selection of rocks, fossils, and
minerals and they are super friendly! They are so knowledgeable and love what they do. I was looking for a particular fossil and they had just what I needed. If you like geology or just like cool rocks like me, I recommend this as a stop on your visit through Moab.

My only wish is that I stayed here longer. This shop was amazing and carried so many different types of rocks and fossils! Right in the front are tables full of crystals, geodes, and more. Inside the store are rows and rows of MORE different rocks. And out the back are, you guessed it, MORE tables of rocks! The staff was incredibly friendly and helpful as well! My father and I each picked out geodes and, with the help of the staff, cracked them open. He was very knowledgeable about the different geodes we picked out and handed us more information. With my geode, he explained how it was formed and even showed me how it fluoresced under a UV light. If I ever come back to the area, I will definitely stop by here again, and I suggest you do the same!

This is a spectacular place. So much selection and so many pieces of local history. I could easily spend a day here examining the beauty of the minerals and stones. Kudos for the Replica Dino Cast Bones. As well as the mining equipment and buggy on display. An absolute treasure of a store.

Took the kids here otw back from Canyonlands and had a great time. Girls got to pick out pretty gems and jewelry while the boys (and myself) bought cool fossils, petrified wood, and almost a megalodon shark tooth (they had several for sale). Low pressure environment and knowledgeable staff, very cool and unique finds from local dogs and worldwide.

This is a great place to learn about fossils, minerals and other interesting and educational items. They give away a piece of free fossilized dinosaur bone and have some dinosaur skeketons just like in a museum. Finding the place is easy and should be included on any trip through the Moab area.

This is the rock shop that got me to love rock shops! I've been a yearly visitor since the age of 18, and never leave the area without gifting myself a spectacular rock to remember my trip with. Whether it be a fossil, petrified wood, a beautiful stepping stone, sparkling crystals and minerals or polished stone, Lin Ottinger and his family & staff can find the perfect thing for you. My last visit (after the mammoth burning in Bluff) led me to a polished piece of mammoth bone-- the perfect memento!

Ottinger's "mini-museum" never fails to inspire me. If you get lucky, Lin will be at the store and will tell you tales of his trips that will leave you breathless. And then the dog will let you pet him, and your day will be complete.

Thank you, Lin for giving me the courage to explore the red fins and spires of the Colorado Plateau, and for the opportunity to have a bit of the area at my own home.

Depends on what you are looking for, when visiting. Lots of small pieces out front if you want a little souvenir. Larger pieces inside, excepting the huge pieces of petrified wood outside as well. I was looking for a particular rockhounding book which they didnt have. An interesting stop while you are in town.
