- journeywestWheat Ridge, Colorado134 contributionsWrangler Stephanie did a good job with the younger riders. She is patient and calm and helped ensure that everyone had a fine ride today. The unsettled March weather had us shivering beneath moisture laden clouds early in the ride. Fortunately the sun eventually came out and warmed everyone up. I was assigned a horse named Cowboy. He was well trained and responsive and would do anything I asked him to. The red dirt, sagebrush, junipers, sandstone walls and monoliths make this ride an unforgettable experience. This is my second trail ride with Hauer Ranch and I would love to go again. (was thinking afterwards that in a more perfect world I would ride in a place like this often with my border collies along side except for the youngest (Jess) out in front exploring.Visited March 2024Traveled soloWritten March 26, 2024
- CarolinaGirl27Bluffton, South Carolina54 contributionsWe stayed at Red Cliffs Lodge but were unable to take a trail ride there because our youngest child was not old enough. Moab Horses was conveniently just a few minutes down the road. Desire was our guide. She was very knowledgeable and great with kids. The scenery was beautiful, and the terrain was easy. Our entire family enjoyed it very much!Visited May 2024Traveled with familyWritten August 18, 2024
- Todd SWichita, Kansas3 contributionsMy wife and I did a three-hour ride with Jess on a beautiful October afternoon and it was pretty fantastic. We met the Owner on arrival and got quickly fitted for our saddles and given a short overview of how to 'ride' the horses, but the horses pretty much follow the wrangler so you're really free to enjoy the scenery and outdoors. The ranch dogs joined us, and it was fun watching them run ahead. We stopped about mid-ride and Jess took some really great photos of us up on the horses. We rode thru and across streams and saw some amazing scenery used in a lot of movies. If we're coming back to Moab, I'd definitely visit Moab Horses again. Highly Recommend!Visited October 2024Traveled as a coupleWritten November 3, 2024
- Kristen6 contributionsMy daughter and I had an amazing experience with Moab Horses ! We spent two hours on the trail and it greatly exceeded our expectations. The views are unparalleled and the horses were a tremendous amount of fun, as well as the dogs that joined our ride. Thank you for an amazing morning !Visited April 2024Traveled with familyWritten April 6, 2024

Booked a tour for a 3 hour experience viewing the canyon and receiving acknowledgeable insights to the area. The tour was switched the night prior due to daylight savings, which did not happen until the 6of November. When we arrived it was hard tell feel like we were guests at the ranch for an expensive ride. The experience was mediocre and the guides had little to no info on anything in the valley and lost questions we asked had no answers. The ride ended before the actual end time. We left 37 minutes before the arranged time. Upon calling the business about this I was received with hostility and inconvenience by the owner Sina. My needs were not heard, and anything I said was abruptly disputed. Would not recommend.

If you are on the fence about taking this ride... just do it! We (a group of 5 ladies) took the 3 hour ride with "T" as our guide and never regretted it for a minute. It was snowy and chilly and we were worried about them canceling... no worries! Moab Horses ride year round in all conditions. We called and texted back and forth several times and they worked to make adjustments for weather and time. Truly the best folks you could work with who did everything possible to make sure our ride was awesome. And top that off with good stock that is well fed, friendly, sound and well outfitted with good gear. My group has done plenty of rides in the U.S. while on vacation and those things listed above are NOT always a given! A smooth moving horse and a quality saddle sure does make the difference and sets you up for a very enjoyable ride. This is a great place to ride from and the countryside is lovely. We rode washes, ridge lines, gullies and open country. A nice mix that made for beautiful photos!

My husband and I reserved a private ride as a way to really see the canyon. Des our guide was awesome. She took the time to learn about our riding skills and made sure to adjust the stirrups perfectly. Des was very knowledgeable and provided a great deal of local color during our ride. Biscuit and Blue our mounts were very able footed over the rough terrain. Our secondary guide and protective muscle Elvis (a rescue pup) made our ride that much better. We had a little excitement at the end of our ride that had us giggling all the way back to town. We can't wait to come back! Thank you Des!!

I have rented horses on my travels but none can compare to the quality of these horses and the variable terrain that we rode on. You can also rent mules that are absolutely beautiful and big. The ups and downs, the hoodoos oh, and the Onion River make this ride special. The people that work there we're just as nice as could be and very informative along the ride. Prospectors Valley and the views of Castle Rock are unmatched! Is that good enough

I'm a city girl and in my late 40s and this was the first time I ever rode a horse. While it would have been nice to have had a bit more education prior to the ride, I felt safe and that I was in good hands with the staff. They were very knowledgeable and friendly, and when my horse was giving me a hard time they switched me over to a different horse mid-ride. The scenery is absolutely and this was an amazing memory for me to make. I would just caution others who have never ridden that two hours may he a bit much as I suffered aches and pains for two days...well worth it, though!!!

Took the kids (8 and 10) for their first riding experience, and Moab Horses did not disappoint. Barney and Genie were perfectly suited to the kids (and Misty and I got along famously, she and I are kindred souls). It's nothing fancy, a nose to tail walk through the desert, but stunning scenery and really friendly people. While waiting for our ride afterward, the ladies even showed the kids how to dunk their hats in the horse trough to cool off - they thought that was super cool. A really lovely beginning experience for the kids, one they're still talking excitedly about weeks later.

Took my teen niece and nephew for their first ride ever, and they were thrilled. The horses were wonderful, the wrangler Shiloh was terrific, and you just can't beat the epic views and terrain. Best place to ride in the Moab area. Highly recommend!

Highly recommend this ranch for horseback riding. We rode Monday morning after it snowed and our tour guide was wonderful, even though it was very cold it was absolutely beautiful to see the snow on the ground while riding. My husband and I rode Zina and Biscuit, they were awesome!

Moab Horses at Hauer Ranch provided a wonderful horseback-riding experience for our family. We arrived 10 minutes late (the location of Hauer Ranch on Google Maps was misleading), but the guides were attentive and quick to get us mounted. A brief overview, and we were away on our ride. Our younger kids, 7 and 9, often struggled to keep their horses (mules, actually) in line, and the guides were right there, pleasantly getting them back on track. As we rode through shallow streams and up and down small hills, the guides informed us about the area in a family-friendly way. All the while, the surroundings were true wild west: brown sands checkered with scrub brush to the distant buttes and rock towers.

This was a great trail ride. Very friendly staff (and dogs!), gorgeous scenery, and interesting narration by Trace, describing the many movies made in the area! My husband said his horse was the best he’d ever ridden on a trail ride and my horse was gorgeous (but did need a firm hand!). I would do another ride with these folks in a heartbeat.

How much does it cost for 2 adults and 3 kids to ride?
Written February 7, 2021
Is this true? Can anyone else confirm this?
"At no time were we ever on a set trail nor did we have to follow nose to tail," this is from one of the review on Trip advisor.

Yes of course we use established trails to reduce impacts to the desert, although we don’t do the same trail for every ride. We mix it up and we can go cross country if we want or need to. And the horses do follow one another; they do not ride three or four abreast as you might see in the movies. However with some of our advanced and private groups it may feel like more of being in a “posse” than a line. I hope that helps answer your questions.

We are thinking about 1st week of December but are not sure about the weather. We have no experience in horseback riding. Any recommendations? Thank you.
Written January 21, 2018
I also cannot comment on the weather at that time of year, but no problem being inexperienced. They offer helmets which I highly recommend because horses are still animals and can be unpredictable if spooked. That being said ours horses were very calm and we had no problems with them. The biggest challenge with the horses is getting them to stop eating along the way! HAHA! You just have to pull up on the reins and they'll get moving, but they do like to eat! The guide we had was excellent. I wish so much we could go back!

Hi. We are booked at the ranch at the end of Sept. Our son is a 29 year old, small (5'.1, 130 lbs) developmentally disabled person with cerebral palsy. He is a great guy, very gentle, socially adept, sweet, and does his best in all he tries. A Special Olympics champion in several sports, he used to ride at Lil' Bit Therapeutic Riding Center near our home in Seattle, but always with guiding assistance. Obviously that wouldn't work in a group ride. I am wondering if he might ride double with one of us? Thank you, Carla

Looking forward to being in Moab for our 45th anniversary in Sept, and especially taking my wife on a half day ride. I can't seem to find how you are to be paid though. Do you accept credit cards, debit cards, or require cash? Thanks, and was pleased to chat with you earlier on the phone.
