My friend and I were visiting the Moab area for a few days and planned to try out mountain biking. I coordinated with Magpie over email leading up to our visit. The communication was great. Magpie is part of the owner’s name…. Maggie. Magpie worked out a plan to fit our beginner status along with the timing and location we planned to be at the day of the tour.

On the day of our tour, we had some short hikes planned at Dead Horse Point State Park. We coordinated with Magpie to do a sunset ride following our hikes at the park with relatively easy, beginner friendly terrain. Magpie thought that plan was a great idea!

Before our visit, Magpie sent detailed instructions through email about what to wear, bring, etc. We met our guides, Jules and Mike, at the park in the parking area. They were easy to spot as the vehicle had the Magpie logo on the side… Plus the bikes! As we walked up, Mike and Jules gave us a friendly greeting. They gave us an overview of the bikes, got us setup with helmets, and showed us some basic mountain biking skills to practice.

It was recommended that we bring biking gloves to wear on the tour. I was glad we had them…. Purchase some before you head to Moab so you can be sure they fit. We practiced basic skills for about 20 minutes in the parking area before venturing out on the trail. On the bikes we wore our small backpacks filled with snacks and water. Magpie included a bottle of water for us as well and offered us a snack before leaving the parking area. I recommend wearing joggers and long sleeves to prevent any scrapes from some of the small shrubs you pass along the trail.

The trails at Dead Horse Point seemed about the right skill level for beginners. They are well marked, signed, and fairly flat with small hills. Mike and Jules coached us where necessary while stopping several times to ensure we were drinking water, to point out sights, or to take photos for us. The terrain was fun and not too difficult. There were a few tougher spots that our guides helped us navigate. Nothing a beginner couldn’t tackle! The views from the trails were amazing!

After a few hours on the bikes, we headed back to the parking area. If this is your first time mountain biking I would suggest keeping between 90 minutes and two hours. We tipped Mike and Jules and said goodbye. After our tour, we drove over to the lookout at the point to watch the sunset. It was gorgeous!

We went on a half day mountain biking tour. It was terrific! There were five of us of varying abilities (none of us very experienced mountain bikers). Maggie and our guide Mike did a great job selecting the perfect place for us to go. Not too hard, not too easy, and of course - this being Moab - beautiful. The bikes were incredible and others on the trail were admiring them! Mike started off giving us some basic instruction and continued to gently coach us throughout the ride. His teaching was exactly what we needed to feel confident as we set out. We hit some more technical trails which definitely challenged us, but he kept us all safe and happy. The experience great and we were so pleased that we did it. We would enthusiastically recommend Magpie Cycling!!

Our three day mountain bike tour of Canyonlands White Rim Trail with Magpie Cycling was the experience of a lifetime. Our guides Maggie and Eric were FANTASTIC. Everything was organized and planned perfectly. The food was excellent...fresh, healthy, and delicious. They accommodated various riding levels in our group of 12 and kept us safe. The trip was absolutely amazing in every regard. I credit Magpie Cycling and our guides for their comprehensive logistical planning, flexibility, riding expertise, and knowledge of the canyon and its treasures for providing our group an adventure we will always cherish. Maggie and Eric helped us all experience the challenges, wonderment, and peace the canyon holds. I highly recommend Magpie Cycling for a trip you will never forget. A life changer for sure!

We had an early morning mountain bike adventure in Dead Horse Point State Park with Magpie Cycling. Our very experienced guide Eric first made sure we knew what we were doing. Afterwards, he took us on a beautiful almost 3 hour trip through the State Park with fantastic views of the canyons and mountains of the area. I would definitely recommend this kind of adventure to anyone who likes to explore.

We were a group of three guys 50 to 60 in age with a fair bit of mountain biking on hard tails and Fire Roads in Marin County. We hired Magpie, who assigned us, Eric, to be our guide.
Eric's was fantastic from the first text correspondence to where we should eat dinner.

He was on time to pick us up and had the supplemental water, food, and tools (which we needed) in the 20-pound pack he carried. He proved to be a quick study of our talent and physical condition, Blue Square to Black Diamond. He was smart enough to take us on more Blue Squares but gave us a taste of the Black Diamond.

From renting the bikes to the email correspondence it was an excellent experience.

Yes, mountain biking in Moab is everything it’s hyped up to be and more! We had THE BEST time!
Our guide, Mike, was amazing - he gave us a full rundown of the basics to ensure we had a safe ride before taking us on some awesome loops just north of town. The bikes were fantastic (better than my MTB at home!) and made for awesome riding. Mike gave us great tips and suggestions, pointed out some local history and geology, and overall made the experience 10x better than it would have been had we rented bikes and gone out alone.
No matter your experience, I would recommend going with Magpie Cycling because they’ll give you the best riding experience possible.

With 24 hours notice Magpie put together a private tour with guide Mike. A terrific time - out at Dead Horse Point state park near Moab. Mike was a wealth of knowledge regarding the area, the geology and we even pressed him on how to buy a bike. He catered the trip to challenge my 17 year old son while making my more physically challenged day possible and gratifying. Thanks Mike!

My son and I just finished a full day mountain biking tour with Eric from Magpie Cycling. This was our first time in Moab and the number of trails is overwhelming to pick from for the single day we had to spend in the area. My son is an advanced rider and I am an intermediate at best. What to do? Eric and Maggie collaborated with us to optimize our personalized guided tour in the area so we both were able to make the most of the visit considering our different skill levels. Slick Rock, Dead Horse and Ahab; we both got the riding we were looking for and the scenery is absolutely spectacular. Their equipment is first rate and each bike was customized for our height and weight. For the first timer or the experienced rider, Magpie will get you the mountain biking you need.

Sasha was an incredible guide. I did a 3 hour private tour with him, and could not recommend him more. It was my first time mountain biking. Sasha gave me a great basic primer in the parking lot in Horseridge, and then we headed out on Rowdy. He expertly guided me through each obstacle, giving me options for additional challenge and a historical tour of Moab, Arches and beyond. This was a highlight of my trip to Moab for sure.

We hired Magpie for a price three-day White Rim tour. One of the most complete and amazing experiences in my entire life. Maggie, Mike and the entire crew have everything dialed-in so well. The guides, the ride, the support and the food are all top notch. They exude professionalism while still providing ample amounts of fun. Most importantly, they are absolutely DIALED into the region and have a treasure trove of information and little tidbits to keep even the most engaged desert tourers learning something new. I wouldn't look elsewhere to book another tour and already thinking about our next trip with Magpie.
