Hello Krisiti. We recommend bringing shoes that you don't mind getting wet for the day that will stay on your feet. Keens, Chacos or a pair of old tennis shoes are great! The first half of the Rim to River tour includes hiking through multiple stream crossings after the second rappel. The second half of the trip consists of whitewater rafting where your feet will get wet. I hope this helps future travellers plan accordingly.

Kristi, If you have a shoe that can go from the hike to the river that is best. Closed toe is not a requirement. If you do want to change you can leave whichever shoe you are not wearing in the van. The same vehicle will transport you all day!

Thanks for your thoughts Nadine. Of the 60,000 people we have shared this river with since 2003 Nadine stands out as one our favorites! Multiple emails with her last season pointing out the places on our website that described, in detail, that what she bought was exactly what was promised have left a special place in our hearts for her. The surprise that there was time spent checking in, driving to the river, that the trip was appropriate for kids as young as 5 and that we would have to drive back at the end continue to make us smile. Additionally, the hours spent trying to figure out why the refund for the entire cost of her trip was not going through only to find out that she had already disputed the charge with her card company while still asking for the refund from us still bring a smile to my face! Anywho! This river fluctuates dramatically over the course of our season. Spring and fall it's splashy class II. May and June it's class III. Either way, since 2003 almost every one of our guests and 10's of thousands a summer think it's great. If a drive on one of Americas National Scenic Byways, 4 named rapids, incredible scenery, information from local guides on the river, plants, animals, history and geology of the moab, jokes, swimming on a hot day and generally more fun than you can shake a stick at, sounds good to you, then I say join us! We will take great care of even the most timid in your group! Cindy, Nadine sings her song loudly but the 850 plus people who have given us 5 stars are perhaps the chorus to listen to! Any shoe or sandal that you can hike 3 miles in and can get wet. They can be open toe or closed it doesn't matter. Hybrids like Keen, Chaco or Teva work well but honestly any trail or road runner will work. Waterproof is not recommended because your feet will be fully submerged! I hope this helps!

May is early in the season and the river is usually class II. There is very little chance that a raft would flip. We have the ability to avoid some of the bigger features if our guests wish to do so to further mitigate the risk.
